| On_the_wings_of_TPK04-11-05, 02:51 PM | Ok so it started off with Ai and I (for charter reference chack out the link my sig, or the one in UR's) on the move again, and we had to make a forced stop in a town. There we met the rest of the party, and no sooner said than done, then the town's alarms started. Some monsters entered into the town (10 CR 10's OoC, we were 5th level at the time) and began to paint the doors of the homes red, rend the sheep, and generally make mess of the town. They weren't harming anything sentient and looked as though they could lay massive hurt down on us. (I had one scorching ray and a summon monster II left.) After they finished making a mess of the town they left. That night we heard two of the elders talking. They were discussing whether to leave the village. Ai and <the spirit shamman> decided to investigate one of the elders, while completely skunked on this funky elven wine. (It makes your Dex and Cha rise when drunk, drops your Int and Str. Her Str was 2 at the time, but her Cha was a 28.) They learned that he was a powerful diviner and had the hole village under surveillience, except for the inside of this barn, with heavy use of objects to scry through (spiders, weather vanes, etc.). Ai told me in the morning, and I immediately went on an arcane eye hunt. The first of these that I found happened to be a magical weather vane on top of the barn. I got the goliath spirit shaman to retrieve it for me. After examining it, I had him destroy it. (Unbeknownst to us, we beat the module right there). The DM also said some crap about us not giving the weather vane back when we said we would was evil. A short discussion about Law and Chaos vs. Good and Evil ensued. In any case, my divine magic hunt turned up negative, so I turned my attention to defending the town. The monsters left the people alone if they stayed in the town, and we figured that our arrival had brought them. If we left, we feared we'd bring on another monster attack. We dug a large dry moat/pit full of spikes and gunpowder around the town, and built a ballista for them too. After a year's worth of work/waiting for attack we decided to provoke them. Ai ran into the forest. Nothing happened. Then I threw a fireball into the forest. The forest burned to the ground, and we deemed it safe to leave. There were some trees on the town's side of the pit, so they could replant. (It was a small forest anyway.) Whole thing took less then three and a half hours. We broke the weather vane about an hour and a half into the session. |

| UltimateReality04-11-05, 05:09 PM | Ah, to be young again...Heh. We're not that young, sadly. The DM is still adjusting to a new party and a new edition of the game, but generally doing much better than before. Still has a few railroading issues, needs to work on using backstory plot hooks and character motivations, and doesn't realize quite how the party thinks yet...I mean, if you've got a suspicious village leader and the bard and wizard are picking up divination magic on a bunch of creatures, items, etc. and they don't want to be spied on...well, what's the first thing you'd think to do? :P OoC he told us afterward that someone was dominating the village leader. Good thing I didn't let the spirit shaman hurt him when we searched his house. I'm not proud of the fireball in the forest, but we were kind of stuck for ideas, and didn't want to risk leaving the town and running into those demon monster things...apparently they were based on a movie called "The Village"? I haven't seen or heard of it, but one party member knew enough about the movie to recognize the monsters. The villagers were, well, villagers -- including a bunch of old people and a blind kid. I really have to go look up that movie now, though. |
| cambric04-11-05, 07:40 PM | Definitely "The Village"!! When I first read the story idea, I thought that was the movie. I won't ruin the ending, but it's cool how he used the idea for a session. Cam |

You don't have to worry about ruining the ending -- I don't own a TV so I won't be renting the movie any time soon. On an unrelated note, two of the Races books I ordered came today! :w00t: Nothing like new books to set the flame of love ablaze in a gamer's heart...ohhh that shiny new book smell.... :cloud9: |

| UltimateReality04-11-05, 10:27 PM | ...and out of the burning forest comes thousand of ****** animals.Seeing as the monsters had rended all the townsfolk's livestock in their initial raid, the people rather enjoyed the fact that now they had meat to eat. |
