What's a good staring combination of Feats for this? I've actually never played one before... *shrug*

Depends on where you want to take it. The fighter can go many ways.

Almost Ranger-like. Medium Armor (Heavy if I can do it without a Move penalty) along with Move Silently and Hide. Mostly melee, but if I don't have to do it, I'd rather not... :)

Umm, well it really does depend on what sorta fighter you wanna go... i mean if you just wanna go your average hard hitter you could probably take Monkey Grip, Power Attack and Improved Buckler Defense. That way you can use a Large Greatsword (3d6), make your damage go up quite a lot and allows you to have a buckler on your arm (so you get the shield bonus).

This of course means you take a -2 penalty to hit from the monkey grip, -1 from the buckler and -(whatever else) to do more power attack damage :P

There ya go

In that case you're taking dex as your main ability score?

Weapons finesse, Dodge - heading for spring attack, and maybe two weapon fighting or one of the ranged feats if you're planning a ranged fighter?

two things. what level? Also, Char Ops can answer this much better than me

lets see, almost ranger like? I'll assume level 1 human fighter

put focus in dex and con. you want at least 13 Str as well take Two weapon fighting, Two WEapon defense and oversized two weapon fighting. take two longswords and kick some ass. when you hit level two, swap out for raipers or another finessable one hander, and take weapon finesse. finally, at level four, take power attack. you'll be able to pump out some mad damage.

For a dex-based fighter?

Exotic Proficiency: Spiked Chain
Weapon Finesse
Combat Expertise

Then from there, I'd go with things that give you additional attacks with your spiked chain, like Improved Trip and Combat Reflexes.

Ok, here's the relevant stats for said fighter:

STR17
DEX 16
Con 16
INT 9

Obviously I won't be able to go cross-class in skills like I wanted to, so what would be suggestions for Skills/Feats now?

cant go wrong with weapon focus (whatever), power attack and cleave. and if you like ranged, just buy a few daggers. stand on the back line and whip daggers at people. you keep strength bonus.. 10 foot range increment so you can stand behind someone and do it.. and the same dex bonus as str bonus. not bad.

With 9 Int that fighter won't be able to get much in the way of Hide/Silent move skills unless you MC with ranger.
If you actualy can stomach the Spiked chain, those attributes scram for you to take - EWP Spiked chain and Combat Reflexes. No need for finesse as your Strength is even higher than your Dex. 4 AoO's a round is probably much better than cleave against low level opponents. Take Dodge so you can eventually get Spring attack, and you're set (NO whirlwind due to low Int, but I find that maneuver rather overrated)

If you really want to take Hide and Move Silently as skill sets there is the feat (Guerrilla Fighter...or something like that) in the Heroes of Battle supplement.

If there is any way you can alter your stats to move that 9 int somewhere else and get 13+ int, you'll open up many useful feats for an interesting, skillful fighter.

But with 9 int, the best you can hope for is power attacking, sundering, bull rushing, cleaving, and general brutishness.

Actually, I wanyed the INT 9 for the fun factor. Thanks for your suggestions, though.
