i'm new to D&D, and i was reading through the subclasses, one caught my attention being the subrace of humans, 'skulk'... as i said i am new, can someone explain to me what this phrase in the special abilities section means:

2HD Humanoid (skulk), which grants skill points,
Feats, BAB, & Base Save Bonuses.

metaphorically if i rolled a total of 9 (for the 2HD) would that mean that i get a total of 9 additional skill points, feats, BAB and BSB? or would it mean, like i think, that i get 9 things to choose between skill points, feats, BAB, and BSB? or is there something wrong entirely with the info i got?

Nope!

HD stands for hit dice, which work (mechanically anyway) like class levels. Humanoid HD are d8s, which means that a 2 HD humanoid would get 2d8 + 2xCon hit points. He/She gets 1 feat for the first hit die, and will get one for his/her first class level, as that will be the third total hit die, then one every three levels thereafter (4th, 7th, etc.). Humanoids have a 3/4 BAB, same as the cleric, so a 2 HD humanoid has a BAB of +1 before any class levels. They have good reflex saves and poor fortitude and will saves, so that's a base reflex save bonus of +3 before class levels and just +0 for fortitude and will. They only get 2+Int mod skill points per HD, so, following the usual rules of quadruple at first level, that's 10 + 5xInt skill points. 2 HD, so max ranks are five, and you can max out 2+Int mod skills with those five ranks. Humanoids with racial hit dice get free proficiency with all simple weapons, and are proficient with any armor mentioned in their entry, but no more.

So, for 2 HD the creature/character gets:
2d8+2xCon hit points (or for a PC with max hit points at first level, 8+d8+2xCon)
+1 BAB
+3 Reflex BSB
+0 Fort and Will BSB
10 +5xInt skill points (2+Int skills maxed out at 5 ranks each)
Proficient with all simple weapons

..and I'm sure by now someone who actually knows about the skulk has answered this question already. Ah well.

It means the skulk starts with two Humanoid HD, which is effectively the same as starting with two levels of Humanoid. A skulk also has a +1 level adjustment, if I recall correctly.

Thus, a skulk with one level of rogue would be an ECL 4 character, and would look like this:

1 Humanoid: d8 HP, (2+int)*4 SP, BAB 0, F0, R2, W0, FEAT
2 Humanoid: d8 HP, 2+int SP, BAB 1, F0, R3, W0
3 Rogue: d6 HP, 8+int SP, BAB 0, F0, R5, W0, FEAT
4 LEVEL ADJUSTMENT

Does this make sense?
