| ThatOneMonk11-01-04, 04:03 PM | I'm not normally one to complain, but I'm not sure what to think about this situation I'm in. My group is pretty open minded. We enjoy several aspects of the game, but some of our members can have a hard time staying focused at times. About a month ago, one of our members sat everyone down and explained that we was going to form a new group and was leaving all of our games except for one for the following reasons: 1: We are no good at roleplaying, i.e. we treat it as though it were something simply in between fights. 2. We powergame too much. He cited one of my characters in our forgotten realms game. He was a psychic warrior archer from chult (We were in silverymoon). He was extremely effective with his psionic focus attack, however, he couldnt speak common very well. INT 8, and I didnt want to waste skill points in speak language because I needed them for a pres. class. I promised I would get them afterwards, and he was learning the new language as he progressed. The player claimed that he was a hinderence to the party due to lack of communication, though I was still able to express myself, and I didnt metagame. 3. He wanted to play with new people. Anyways, he did in fact quit all the current games, and we took his advice and decided to rethink how we did things. We started over all of our games. We were doing a new forgotten realms, a restarted ebberon, and a home brewed Nordic campaign. After a while, I decided I'd mess around with a few other games like star wars and Cythulhu. He was in both of them. In addition, he never started a new group. We are starting a new ebberon game based during the last war, where we are active participants in the war, starting at level 10. He acts like his speach never happened.--- On a related side note... There was an incident in the forgotten realms campaign. He plays a chaotic-good woodelf ranger going into that orc hunter pres class. I'm an half-orc barbarian rogue, going into orc scout. I spy on many-arrows jackass orc guy. anyways, we started and our characters got off on a great foot. He got drunk and got in a fight and i helped him (it was very touching ;) ) Anyways, I and the rest of the party wanted to go hunt orcs, which was in all of our paths, though he claimed it was rediculous to go without any leads or knowing where we would be. We began arguing in character, even though he was acting particularly lawful. We then argued out of character for about 45 minutes, and he wouldnt budge on any of the points we threw at him. He basically demanded that the DM slap us in the face with an adventure hook, and claimed we would never find an orc camp or anything north of silverymoon. Lord, I think my head is going to explode... |
| Adraedan11-01-04, 04:15 PM | Punch him in face or headbutt him...that's what I'd do If you're for the non-violence *cough*pansy*cough* approach, just don't play with the guy and tell him to go eat something long, hard and pink while making allusions to his mother being a sex-trade worker. I love having no decency :D |
| ThatOneMonk11-01-04, 04:30 PM | well, I may consider that... |
| Cymraegmorgan11-01-04, 04:31 PM | Remind him that you are no good and tell him you coldn't bear the thought of embarrassing him further by allowing him to play in one of your campaigns. :weep: Wish him well in his quest for new players. |
| ThatOneMonk11-01-04, 04:33 PM | OH CRUD!! I forgot something... he's the brother of one of our best DM's and most actice players... |
| Cymraegmorgan11-01-04, 04:40 PM | Little brothers are better not seen, and not heard. :D Assuming the DMs roleplaying skills had also been critiqued, remind the DM of that fact and the above truism. |
| Son of Khoron11-01-04, 06:03 PM | My group is pretty open minded. I am attacking you, I hit you, you fall and die. I taunt you before attacking you, you respond with a counter-taunt, sounds like we are roleplaying the taunting portion before fighting. If you are speaking with one another or a NPC and not attacking, isnt that roleplaying? Unless the player you speak of is the DM, it doesnt matter what he says. The DM allowed you to create the character you speak of and allowed you to play it as such. Sounds to me the player you speak of is a bit immature to mention his disapproval on how the players roleplay and create characters. He acts like his speach never happened.--- Why did you start all of the games again? Is he the DM? If not, who gave him that authority? Sounds to me he is voicing a lot until he gets what he wants. Dislikes your roleplaying and your character creations, perhaps he is inexperienced in both factors and expresses it due to his inexperience and inability in both. You guys just let him have his ways, keep doing it and he will continue to feel good about it and do it again and again. he's the brother of one of our best DM's and most actice players Guess that explains my suspicions as stated above. |
