the only thing i am scared about death, is the level lose.

anyone who knows a way to prevent a level lose when you are restored to life through other means than true resurrection?

I can't think of anything.

I would say just suck up the level loss and go on. :)

And try not to die.

(If your chars die constantly, keep an "unlevelled" version of your char sheet so you dont' have to stop and unlevel every time.)

The best way to avoid the level loss is to not die at all. Barring that....have someone cast Elminster's Evasion on you.

You could try clone, that way if you lose levels before dying then you could actually gain levels through death

True Reincarnation is a druid spell that mimics true resurrection, but at a lower level. However, your race will change, just like with normal reincarnation.

i have found the way i will be regenerated, but all i need to know is:
is there an epic feat, spell, power, epic spell/power, which grants you that power?

Its this kind of thinking that drove me to compleatly remove all reanimation magic from every game i play. Oh to bad your dead, heres another character sheet *opens binder with hundreds of empty character sheets*

My group has a house rule in which characters who are resurrected take the XP penalty, but don't lose levels. Instead, they have to work off their debt until they can continue to progress.

Billy lost 500 XP from dying. He had only gained 300 XP since his last level and is 200 XP below the level up. He's functioning as normal, but at -500 XP. After gaining 500 XP from normal circumstances, he can actually add XP to his total.

True Resurrection has no XP loss. The XP loss is equal to the amount lost by normal death. It makes death a little less painful, but I (as a DM) do it for less book-keeping. There are more ways to penalize people than just death. And if you want to just kill a character, it can be somewhere where Clerics aren't readily available.

In our games, when characters die, they are usually permanently dead and we have to roll up new characters.

The Thought Bottle also can prevent the level loss.
Its a magical item which can "save" your current XP.

Unfortunately many people ban this item from games because they claim it's broken.

I say just make a new character if it happens. There's plenty of interesting classes/PrCs to play.

that's right, but i want to hold on one class, because i always change my mind when i play, and besides: i like to scare my party members. ;) :P

That's kinda cool.

Dying should be scary. Every character bites it at some point. If the game had no consequences to actions, there'd be no point in playing anymore.

You'll get used to it :)

I agree. Proposed it to my group today. I made it a bit tougher though. You go back halfway between the previous level and the one before it. A 10th level who dies and is "Raised" has 32,000 XP (halfway between 8 and 9). The character is still 10th level and will get 11th, if they gain 23,000 XP, to get the normal 55,000 XP needed.
