| Taeldrin Laesrash03-31-06, 09:19 PM | In a game of ours (A mish-mash of settings to be precise, with emphasis on roleplaying), my character let it slip to an NPC cleric that he once accidentily ate elf. Said cleric is convinced that my character is cursed, and the elven gods will stop at nothing to get my atonement. I don't want to just walk out on the game, since the NPC's actions probably mean something, but he is making some really far-out points with little concern to that it was really just an accident. What to do in-game? |
| Shaggy_Shaggs03-31-06, 09:30 PM | Kill him and eat him. Then he'll be happy because he proved he was right and you don't just eat people "accidentally", and you won't have to put up with him anymore. |
| Vestigial_Thumb03-31-06, 09:58 PM | Kill him and eat him. Then he'll be happy because he proved he was right and you don't just eat people "accidentally", and you won't have to put up with him anymore. That would show him. |
| Delfedd03-31-06, 10:17 PM | If you enjoyed it, you may become a ghoul upon death. Hey, it's possible. |
| speeblefreak03-31-06, 10:47 PM | Mmmmm, humanoid. :Homerdrool: |
| JulesCARV03-31-06, 11:03 PM | I sympathize. It's had to read all of the ingredients on a package. As a vegan of sorts, I sometimes accidentally eat things that have milk whey and such in them, because I didn't read the ingredients closely enough. I don't think it's a big deal. I mean, how does this big bad cleric know that he hasn't eaten a bit of elf here and there? Probably we all have, from time to time. |
| Demon Lightfoot03-31-06, 11:14 PM | Yeah, I've eaten elf, too...but that's probably a subject better suited to the Mature fora... :smirk: |
| deafbymetal03-31-06, 11:44 PM | Tell the NPC that you had to eat the elf, to be able to grok him. I do hope you know this reference... or your gonna think WTF? |
| MikeTheAmazingMuskrat03-31-06, 11:59 PM | Delicious. -mike the amazing muskrat |
| Ralphius_Maximus04-01-06, 01:54 AM | Just tell the bugger that the issue is between you and said gods. His constant interferance is probably an affront to them, and he might just be lining himself up for a little divine retribution of his own. |
| a_psh04-01-06, 02:19 AM | Well, all kinds of monsters eat elves all the time, and you don't see them all dying by divine retribution. It stands to reason that if you did it, especially without malice or intent, you would be okay, too. |
| Jodjod04-01-06, 02:40 AM | I'm not exactly sure how much meat you could get on an elf, but... |
| Callista04-01-06, 05:11 AM | Hmm... time for an out of character chat? The other PC's player knows better than anyone else what would resolve the situation. |
| General_Ridley04-01-06, 02:35 PM | been there, done that. But it was on purpose. It's tough to find food when you are locked in a basement. |
| Rivelstraz04-01-06, 02:42 PM | Does it taste like chicken? |
| Rickiel04-01-06, 04:56 PM | It's a known fact that elf tastes like venison. Just ask any thri-keen chef in Sigil. The house special is elf. |
| DrMorganes04-01-06, 05:04 PM | Tell the NPC that you had to eat the elf, to be able to grok him. I do hope you know this reference... or your gonna think WTF? I grok. |
| Whisper_Swiftblade04-01-06, 07:14 PM | If eating elves curses you there would be far fewer orcs, dragons, wolves, owlbears, manticors.............. |
| Whisper_Swiftblade04-01-06, 07:18 PM | if you realy want him off your case just find a cleric of an elf god and talk to him, do not say anything about elf eating just talk, if the gods have a problem with you you will probaly find out pretty fast |
| Kresalak04-01-06, 09:01 PM | Tell the cleric it was an accident, and you don't want him to get in an accident. By the way, Soylent Green is People! |
| Pandaemoni04-01-06, 11:22 PM | So the downside is that you may be cursed of the Elven Gods. On the plus side, one less elf. Just go to the NPC and say: You may be right about the Elven gods, so I pray to them right now, "Lords of Elves, if you are cool with me and want this jerk to apologize for suggesting otherwise, please give us no sign." If there is no sign, say "Thy will be done" and demand your apology. |
| PsychoSailor04-07-06, 04:37 AM | During the next game have your PC: 1. Start to tenderize...oops! I mean give the cleric a friendly massage. When the cleric asks what you are doing, reply " you looked a little tense...and can you hold onto this bottle of bbq sauce for me?" 2. Say something like, "but it wasn't very good, besides elves are stringy and dont have a lot of meat on the bones. Now a halfling, they can fill a belly." |
| Dag04-07-06, 05:49 AM | It's a roleplaying point and I think the DM is being clever to have this cleric take such an approach...Perhaps said cleric is being a bit paranoid and overly worried about vengeful Gods. But hey, he's probably the fire and brim-stone type. What you could do to settle this cleric down might be to ask him what he thinks you should do. Any way you can atone for this accidental misdeed? Ask him if a generous offering might appease the angry elven pantheon. don't laugh or mock him - your DM is making an NPC unique, and as you mentioned the emphasis in the campaign is on roleplaying, so roleplay your way through it and get yourself on the good side of this cleric. Tell him that you feel bad about having eaten the elf and you want to make some sort of apology to the elf's soul or some such. I bet you could make an ally of this cleric if you are sincere or if you sell it well enough and carry through on his advice. |
| Balor von Balorvitch04-07-06, 08:37 AM | I got to know what race were you and how did it happen that you ate an elf :D |
| Thelandrach04-07-06, 08:53 AM | "It was in a stew! And it was only one foot!" |
| Lionhearted04-07-06, 09:09 AM | you ate poor Stew? |
| Millennium04-07-06, 09:23 AM | In a game of ours (A mish-mash of settings to be precise, with emphasis on roleplaying), my character let it slip to an NPC cleric that he once accidentily ate elf. Said cleric is convinced that my character is cursed, and the elven gods will stop at nothing to get my atonement. I don't want to just walk out on the game, since the NPC's actions probably mean something, but he is making some really far-out points with little concern to that it was really just an accident. What to do in-game? It's entirely possible that the cleric is just blowing smoke: just like you said, it was an accident, and the elven gods are fairly likely to forgive an honest mistake. I don't doubt it's annoying you, and you could certainly roleplay your character as being annoyed too. But unless the cleric actually attacks you, I'd let it lie. |
| Dauz04-07-06, 11:59 AM | That would show him. Some how I got to be a half orc neutral good cleric who goes to the seventh level of hell. (!?) :evillaugh |
| Bruunwald04-07-06, 04:00 PM | I heard that the FR guidelines for trail rations processing and packaging allow for as much as 2 grams elf parts per ten-pound bag. After that, they gotta shut them down until they clean all the elves out of the facility. They're always getting into everything. |
| metamind04-07-06, 05:00 PM | Just say it was for the greater good. |
| The Master Weaver Is Warped04-07-06, 05:11 PM | Tell the cleric you agree you are cursed. You have horrendous allergic reations everytime you eat elf now, and you feel really bad because next to a thick swordfish steak, elf was your favorite food. Honestly though, you gave your DM a great hook. Your DM did what every good DM should do in that situation-- (s)he impaled you on it. Brava to you both, I live for games like that. Now here are two game possibilities. One the cleric is sincere in his belief or the cleric is running circles around you trying to get something out of you. Either way, you could investigate the cleric to see if he's as pure as he's claiming. If he's pure you can go with the flow, atone or at least placate the cleric somehow, if he's not pure than you have a whole other relm of possibilities. Remember, you gave the DM the hook, and frankly I think it is a great one. Play with it and have fun. The DM certainly is. |
| LCD2YOU04-07-06, 05:19 PM | Someone has to say it: Elf, the other white meat. Elves, not just for breakfast any more. Try some elf burger helper! We use only free-ranged elves in our products. There I said it. |
| Vaelan04-07-06, 07:43 PM | Personally, I think elves would be delicious. If elves are delicious, then the elven gods must have made them that way. As such, not only do I think the elven gods intended for elves to be eaten, possibly as a delicacy seeing as how they breed so rarely and live so long, but I also think that eating elves is the only way to truly appreciate the greatness of the elven gods' creation. I would attempt to convince the Cleric of this fact and fry him up a nice slab of high elf. |
| Ziggaraut04-07-06, 09:42 PM | Behold: Fae'run Roasted Elf! Ingredients: 1 elf 1 bottle of wine (White Wine for lighter colors, red for darker) 20 pounds of ground nuts 1 pear 3 bottles of favorite sauce 1 oz. cinnamon 3 oz. seasoned salt Tools: 1 spit Directions: First, stuff your elf with the ground nuts. Then place elf on the spit, over a fire with enough heat to boil bear fat. During the roasting, rotate the elf at approximately 6 turns a minute. During turning, pour the wine on the elf slowly, but making sure the fire doesn't go out. Then sprinkle the cinnamon on the elf, making sure to get it all over the middriff area. Pour as much sauce as necessary, never stopping the rotation of the elf. After it is all sauced up, sprinkle seasoned salt on it, skin should be shiny red (if high elf, moon elf, other lighter skin elves) or a deep burgandy (if wood elf, other tan skinned elves) or an extremely dark blood red (if drow) when done. A medium sized elf serves 3. |
