I'm playing a 6th level sparked human sorcerer (Monte's one, not that it matters) My character is a fire specialist, i have the Bloodline of Fire, Spell Thematics, Fiery Burst and Searing Spell feat. (My theme is the Phoenix)

So yeah, i could be just another fireball slinging pyro but that is not what i want. Although my character focusses on fire, i'd like to do so in a more diversifying way. Gear plays an important part in that as well.

I was considering getting boots with that spell from Sandstorm on them that conjures up a wall of flame behind you wherever you walk. Though that's more style then usefull i guess

Anyway i have not thought about this character's future path except that prc's are kind of out of the question, since most of them have feat requirements that i cannot or do not want to meet.

Any tips or suggestions are welcome. Right now i have a +1 Twilight Mithral Chainshirt with dastana's, a Vest of Resistance +2 and a Cloak of Charisma +2. In case it's needed for prereqs, my stats are as follows:
Str: 8, Dex: 14, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 8, Cha 20 (Including Cloak bonus)

Maybe the CharOp boards would be of more help.

1) Get the Energy Substitution feat for stuff resistant/immune to/strengthened by fire
2) What ever you do, don't make all your spells fire spells. Branch out into some utility spells (obscuring mist, black tentacles, major image, ect). Probably no more than one spell known per level should be a direct offensive spell. (This is probably obvious, but worth saying anyway).
3) Get an item that makes you immune to fire. Walk through your own field of flamming doom
4) Get a +1 Flaming Spiked Guantlet. You'll probably never use it, but it will look cool  You could just get continual flame to save money, but then you'd just be a poser :P

Other then that, I got nothing.

To me, when I think of a flame based caster, I think movement more than anything. I would suggest getting the fly spell, short of that, boots of flying. So you can lay waste to the area around whatever offended your sensibilities without coming near it, because that's just below you. Figuratively, and literally with the fly effect.

In addition to that, get some spells that set targets on fire as the main effect or a side effect. Then get spells that assist in spread that. Web and Gust of Wind come to mind. It would be a flavor effect mainly. You saying to your group "let me handle these scum", and then showing off once in a while. It wouldn't be too expensive I don't think to create a simple token that let you cast Web, Gust of Wind and Scorching Ray 1/day. Ok...well, actually....it would be kind of expensive. 17280 gp for CL 3, each spell 1/day, and have it not take up an item slot. Half price to have it take up a slot. Blah for that idea...

Still, Web and Gust of wind could be used in conjunction to your fire spells to give them more effect. Rather than blasting with a fireball. Hit the field of tall grass in front of the enemy coming your way with a scorching ray. As they come closer, wanting to kill you after seeing this, and being glad that you missed....Gust of Wind on the fire left by your ray. POOF, a massive burning hands effect headed towards them, which will then force Ref saves in order to avoid them from catching on fire, setting all of the grass around them on fire too.

It's not very efficient, but it does have a bit of flair. Mixing illusions with that might be good as well. Set something on fire, then put an illusion over it as bait. Have a creature come nearer, and when they get close, you blast a web their way. Whether they are "caught" isn't important. Webs catch fire, webs touch foe, force Ref vs catching fire effect. Target is now on fire, distracted, and you can slaughter him from afar with say, a crossbow. This would definitely work better as a solo character concept though I think.

Unless....you had a DM that would allow you to create spells. Making a mid-level spell that would allow you to mix fire effects with air effects on subsequent rounds to fan the flames would be something neat to do. Like matter agitation rapid style. You set fire to someone and then out of nowhere as you are going about casting another spell, air blasts shoot up around the target to cause more damage, spreading the fire to nearby targets as well.

Fire shield would be a good spell keeping with the theme. OR the mass version.

You cloak yourself in flame and damage anyone who hits you.

Energy substituion, I believe the feat is called, is always a good one, so you could learn some non-fire spells an then most of the time be casting them as fire spells anyways.

Also, if you want style, I'd recomend picking up something like Controlled Immolation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/spelltouchedFeats.htm#controlledImmolati on), oil and tindertwings. You can wrap yourself in fire. Sure, the damage it produces is basically a joke, but it would look cool.

Thanks for the tips. I really like the fire+wind spell idea, i'll do that. Our group allows sorcerers to research alternative spells just like wizards, but a spell is 'discovered' rather than 'researched' and as such takes a spell known slot.

I also like the flaming gauntlet idea... I was already planning to get fire shield either permanent or X times per day, as well as a spell that gave me phoenix wings and allowed me to fly combined with some other effect, so that would fit nicely although it would be more flavor than power, so i doubt it's usfullness with Fire Shield.

Maybe the wings spell could be combined to add strength to other fire spells? By flapping the wings as a move action it could create a hot wind that fans the flames, allowing fire spells to deal some extra damage, and causing an existing fire to spread... HOT stuff!!

Thx for all the help.

One thing I recommend, is a cantrip a Red Dragon Disciple I played once had... A custom cantrip; a very simple little Evocation... Drake's Ember: VS components, Close range, deals 1pt Fire damage/round, 1rnd per level, Reflex negates. It's basically useful for lighting the campfire, lighting the pipe... or, well, pointing out certain, ah, matters to the party Rogue, if necessary. (While the Rogue'll make the save effortlessly, he'll still feel the burn on his neck...)

Also, there's an alternative Familiar build out there... a Staff instead of an animal. From your description, that sounds like it'd have the right degree of panache to it.
