I want to be an elven priest because everyone else in my group are elves and they are all at around 10th level, there is an elven fighter,an elven Necromancer, and an elven thief/undead slayer. So I wanted to be an elven priest but my DM says"You have to role for alignment race and, class"and I was like "WHAT!?!" the DM says "I made them roll" but I didn't have to roll for my last characterand I didn't even have any control over whether or not I died. And for no reason he suddenly decided that everyone else wo died because of their own stupidity(they messed with a demigod)gets brought back to life. But any way I roll and he says I get a HUMAN THIEF!!!we're playing second edition and that's the lowest lowest thing you can get!!!I checked his so-called chart and HUMAN THIEF was the only thing on there. After that I asked him if I could at least be an elf and he says "thats a power race". GOD...whats his problem:confused: .Then he makes my character have a curse so every full moon he turns into a GEM!!!He put me in a world inhabited by racist elves!!!I had my life threatened by a demigod. And my party hates humans too.One is threatening toto sell me or put me in a bag of holding. At least the necromancer had the sense to put me on a necklace. But now I have to do some quest to at least go into towns!

Now...this is my question. Do you think this is fair?!?

EDIT:He(the DM) also refuses to play 3rd edition because he says it is for "powergamers"! I'm the only one in this group that plays 3rd edition(I'm the DM) everyone says that if they played 3rd edition they would rise to Diety status. If I were the DM of them I would have the Tarrasque kill them by swallowing them whole then I would have Vecna(favorite Diety) use alter reality and have it eat them again and again and again...And the one threatening to sell me is a pervert.every time we meet a woman he asks the DM what is the size of her..uh...you get my point
(HE ASKED ABOUT IT EVEN WHEN WE RAN INTO A FEMALE LICH WITH A THREE FOOT LONG BEARD!!!) the DM allows these questions!WHEN WILL THE PAIN END?!?

No. It does not sound fair at all.
It sounds like the DM is on a power trip and really does not like you.
Even if you DM for someone that you do not like, there is no reason to be that mean to them...
Either that or you are telling a bais part of the story...
But I would have a hard time trying to figure out why anyone would make THAT us...
Find a new group, or a new DM.

He also says that you can't be a psion because they are for powergamers.I just met the guy he's the brother of one of the players(the necromancer) I haven't done a thing to the guy!

3 words that are especially viable since you have another group w/ which to game:

Get out now.
Koga:The ninja trick

12-01-03, 01:06 AM
Roll..... for your race?! -_O

Can't.... percieve..... must..... GARR! *Plays Black Sabbath in his brain to calm nerves. "Crazy, but that's how it gooooooos."*

Psionics powergaming?! *Snicker!* PLEASE!!! Unless you count high stats manditory or else your class is uber weak power gaming.. I mean comeon, psions NEED thier psychic powers or else they're just commoners that glare at you alot..

I think it's about time you looked for net games. They may not be as good or as structured. But if The Koga were you, he'd be taking his lawful good/chaotic evil personality disorder buisness elsewhere.. :P

Well... unless there are girls in this group.... No rule can exceed that of girls, not even zero!

Leave, even if you don't have access to another group just leave.

Don't explain or rant at the guy, why you leave is none of his business and telling him he forced you out would just boost the power trip he appears to be on.

You are not having fun and IME it's better not to game than be the party whipping boy.

Have your character commit suicide until you get the character you want.

You:I commit suicide as the racism and prejudice of the elves overwhelms me.
Rise, repeat.

Or kill the entire party until they are all human thieves aswell.

AD&D is the version that was for powergamers..IMHO

.(recals the players who had 1/2 Gawd clerics who could cast all divine as well as all arcane spells (some lame kit), with weapon specialization (dart) and could attack a 1/2 dozen+ times per round... )

or

(the nija types who could kill with a touch etc)

gees, he's out a his mind if he says that about 3.0 3.5...

if fact it seems like his pat answer for eveything he doesn't want is "Powergaming"

Bah, i am with the above posters, Get out now.

I know it's tough when you are jonesin' for a game. ( been there...)...

I used to say..
" a mediocre game is better than no game" but that is not true IMHO.

Hey if ya live in CT. give me a call, you can play with us....we let you Choose your race *snicker*

Jesus, that sounds like a very personal Hell!

I've denied my players from making an elf characters in the past, but because at that point the elves were a hunted race in my homebrew world. But I have never forced them to ROLL their race and class!! I even allowed one of them to play a modified dwarf because I liked that idea! I even allowed them to roll poor hit point rolls again and allowed each character one "near death experience" (meaning that if they suddenly, say, were reduced to -20 hit points because of a ferocious attack of a barbazu :), they somehow managed to survive)! That DM really seems to hate you. Get out of there and get a new group where the DM doesn't consider you to be his personal insult taker...

Good luck.

So why roll? You already had a thief so it couldn't have been for balance. I kind of wish that this guy was on the boards so he could explain himself...

Get out now! Not tommorow, NOW. This DM sounds like a total worm. Find a new game because I can guarantee you will not have any fun with this group.

Part of the fun of DnD is creating your character and playing a character concept that you like. The part where you get cursed is merely icing on the cake, get out and run as fast as you can

HE TURNS YOU INTO A GEM!!

God, as if making you public enemy #1 wasn't enough, you're turned into a gem every full moon.

Either this guy has some twisted mind or (most likely) he's just a complete ass.

Ditch this group, there are much more groups out there, and you said you have another one.

Or you could find some way to totally screw the other characters before you leave, but only if you have the patience to deal with another game in this group.

Your DM doesn't like you?

Well, I don't think too much of your DM so I guess it evens out.

Seriously, just bail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Do not go to jail. Just get the heck out of dodge.

PS - IMO, D&D 3rd edition can only be considered for powergamers because the previous editions were too easy for powergamers to break. Play a cleric? You automatically suck. A ranger? You rock. A human? Suckage. An elf? You're automatically pretty awesome. etc. etc. In 3e, the niches that are unbalanced are much narrower. Yeah, half-orc bards aren't great, but the race is pretty good for everything but arcane casters.

Well if you don't want to back out, make the theif a kleptomaniac! Rob random NPC's. Don't rob the other players unless they're in on it. I'll bet you, as soon as you pull off a few jobs, the DM will automaticaly have the NPC you rob instantly know you did it. You accuse him of Metagameing and leave.

Yes LEAVE NOW!!! This is not the kind of people you want to be playing with. There are plenty of other people who you could be having a MUCH better time with.

If you're in San Diego, give me a PM.

Get out now. Seconded. Let me get this straight; He make you... ROLL, as in "randomly decide" what race and class you are? That, by far, is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I mean come on! I roll up my stats, the R&C, and end up with a half-orc sorcerer with a cha of 9, and now I'm boned because I have no casting ability. I had a DM that just handed out characters, railroaded us into whatever crappy story he thought up, etc. After that me and the rest of the group just made it a point to mess with him until he STFU.

DM: you see a-
me: I poke it with a stick!

Repeat every time he describes anything. Of course, that's only if you want to make him stop DMing. Our reasoning was "anyone who thinks a NG druid is going to take a stab at a rat with a quarterstaff shouldn't play, let alone DM."

So your DM wants to be an ass, just make it backfire on him...

If you still want to stay in the group then I say you should learn how to use your weaknesses.

You said you turn into a gem on a full moon. How valuable does this gem look?

If you guys wanted to make a trade for a decent weapon or just make some quick cash you could have your fellow party members sell you off. Then when they collect the cash you can just leave the next morning or until there is no longer a full moon.

Lets say you guys are trying to sneak into a lair/dungeon/castle, there are so many ways you could use this to your advantage. Can't get into the castle, get someone to throw you through the gate or slip you under the door. You could even just give it to a guard.

It is a great tool if you are planning on making any assassination attempts or even just for surveillance.

Think of the Trojan Horse.

Also, when you are in the gem state, can you see? Hear? If you can do either of these then you will have an even greater advantage.

What do you think of that?

I think Kronk was joking, i.e. it's been said many times but he wanted to agree and point out how often it had been said too. It's the no tone of voice thing again.

BTW Marcivo let us know what happens, I'd say we are all curious now...

You have two options; niether one coexsist with the other:

#1 exploit the situation:

Find a way to use your position to your advantage (exactly how is something you would have to find out)

If you can't exploit the situation and your DM is still being a complete jerk (from what I'm reading), then:

#2 simply get out....

Rise, repeat.

Or kill the entire party until they are all human thieves aswell. As much as this idea made me laugh so hard I almost fell out of my chair, backwards, it's an idea that could painfully backfire. A guy I used to game with had his character try to commit suicide because he had no way out of a particular situation. The DM, panicking because he hadn't got his way, made the character a lich. Spontaneously, like. Through divine intervention or something.

Course, the PC had all the fun parts (and icky parts) of being undead, and thumbed his nose at the DM, but the DM still won. He always will in the end.

2nd Edition, yeah? Next you'll be telling me that for a serious game he likes to play Basic D&D, you know, where elf is a class as much as a race? We house-ruled 2nd Ed until it was almost unrecognisable because there were so many holes and the game was so unbalanced! A munchkin's dream!

In my group we often joke about a campaign where you have to roll for a class and then roll d20 for stats, but no-one would run it, because the idea's pretty impractical. Also, whenever any DM brings a weird rule like that to the table, you either opt in for the weirdness, or generate your character as normal.

I have another couple of suggestions to add to the very sensible option of getting out.

1) Get a kit. That should make your character, well, stupidly powerful.

2) DM a mini-adventure all your own (in 2nd or 3rd or whatever you can persuade them to play - 3rd Ed's for powergamers... Where do they get it from?) and show this chappie exactly how the professionals do it. (Preferably leave the tarrasque out, etc..)

3) Come and play with my group next time you're kicking your heels in South East England. :)

And just in case it's not been made clear; you could always leave. :smirk:

A gem?

Why?

On full moons try to steal yourself and say it's because you're a theif.

Use any idea on the "101 'funny' ways to tick off a DM" thread.

Make your theif have a hidden power while you're at home then bring it and use it at an inconvienient time for your DM.

At lvl 10 you should have a pretty good Backstab multiplier. X3 X4 something like that. If you know what your party members life is at then just backstab them. Or you can search the fourms for a post by me about Swordchucks and then make them in your game. If you don't want to leave there are humdreds of ways to mess around with the game. If you make it hard for the other people to play and they ask you to stop then just say you won't stop until they stop giving you unfair disadvantages. Again backstab is your friend use a longsword if you can or a shortsword if you can't. Buy lots of lamp oil and make them into firebombs and just toss them aimlessly when in combat ect ect I can go on forever Or you could just leave wich is what most people here are saying.

It semms like you have only three options:

1. Just groan and bear it (IMO, the worst thing to do)

2. Leave.

3. Sell yourself every full moon, then the next day, rob the store you were sold to and get out. Rinse and repeat. Either he will get the point and remove the curse, possibly letting you make a new character, or he'll reviel his true nature as a power-tripping DM and send an army of elves after you who will put you in temporal stasis until you are rescued by th eparty, who IC won't really care about you anyways.

Marcivo Mikdeswer : are you a troll ?
Is this for real ?

The only option on the list was Human thief? Why did he make you roll it then ?

If this is for real, try and find someone over the mental age of three to play with.
