| kinjojones02-23-06, 03:21 PM | My character is lawful good and got infected by a lawful evil WereBaboon. What am I supposed to do now? This sort of sucks. We got the werebaboon alive and we know what it is. We can also guess that considering the number of times I got bit that I'm probaly infected so as soon as I change it's saving throws to keep from becoming evil. I got 1 hour to find belladonna in the middle of the jungle which isn't likely or 3 days to find a 12th level cleric. However, I find it really convenient that this purchased module that we just found the decapitated head of the highest level cleric in the area in the treasure of said were-baboon and the next highest level is only level 11. So I guess my only hope is that in 18 days during the full moon I succeed my saving throw on a break curse. Anyways, if anyone has any advice on how to deal with being an afflicted Were-Creature it would be appreciated. |
| Purkake02-23-06, 05:44 PM | A belladonna before the full moon might help... |
| Rickiel02-23-06, 05:46 PM | Or you could try the alternate route. You can try to go for a prestige class from the Complete Divine book that allows divine spellcasters to deal with their affliction while remaining who they are. I think you can get the stuff for the class from the extra web-released bit. I personally forgot what the name of the class is but if I remember it I'll post it! |

| Free198302-24-06, 05:44 AM | My character was once infected with lycantrophy, but instead of curing this disease, I started living with this disease, trying to get it under control. It was really fun playing this character as every bad guy mistook me for a low level ranger. It became even more fun when I tore the bad guy into pieces. But perhaps that is not the Lawful good thing to do. (and it gives your DM a real hard time to balance the game) |
| kinjojones02-24-06, 02:04 PM | It also kind of lame cause I just got followers as a lawful good philanthropists and I could turn into a lawful evil tyrant. |
| Vacerious02-24-06, 02:11 PM | I say stick with the disease until you cna get it cured. Just because the alignment description for werebaboons says "Lawful Evil" doesn't mean all of them are. You could try breaking from the norm and become a great lycanthropic hero for your followers. Use your lycanthropic abilities to hunt other evil lycanthropes. When you finally get back to a big city, you can ask the high priest for a break curse then if you really want it. |
| kinjojones02-24-06, 02:57 PM | We're playing per the RAW in the MM so if you fail the save when you change or you change voluntarily your alignment shifts permanently to what humans percieve the alignment of the lycanthrope base creature. That is to say wolves, rats, bat, and baboons are evil while bears, eagles, and lions are good. All in all it's not so bad. I have 18 days til I can be cured and until then I have a +2 WIS bonus and DR 5/Silver and when and if I do get cured I'll get the feats Iron Will and Alertness and 3 skill points for my trouble. At worst I guess the character will become evil and be effectively retired. SO I guess I might get a chance to try out the Kenku Swashbuckler I've been working on. |
| Lincoln Hills02-24-06, 06:40 PM | Well, I suppose your companions could pound you into unconsciousness just before moonrise on the fateful day. You don't have DR until you're in were-form, you know. If your group were in civilization they could lock you up in the town jail for the night - most local authorities would cooperate if you explained the circumstances. It sounds to me as if the DM wanted this fate to befall you. (Me, I don't like getting PCs infected with this stuff - all those new powers and skill/stat bonuses are a real temptation to shout, "To Gehenna with my alignment!" and simply start playing Jimmy the Overly Enthusiastic Lycanthrope. At least as a cleric you have SOME motivation to resist the pull of evil.) Perhaps there's something about this adventure which requires a lycanthrope in the group. Hard to say. |
| kinjojones02-24-06, 07:56 PM | Just wanted to say it's not the DM's fault. He's running a purchased module that turns out is heavy on were creatures. And it was just bad luck that I rolled poorly (Not an attack roll, skill check, or save rolled above 9) that night. I'm just a little miffed as it definately puts a cramp in my character's style (Murphy's Law I guess). But I still have a good chance to come out better for it and even if I don't it's no worse than getting a character killed. |
| Mattakin Skywalker03-01-06, 01:10 AM | I say go with it! How awesome would it be to play a lawful good character and then every full moon just go insane and kill stuff. Could make for some very interesting plot developments. How many chances in your gaming career are you going to get to play a LE werebaboon? If it's a module then it's probably only a one-off. So have some fun, you can always resurrect you LG character for a later adventure. |
| Neverwrong03-01-06, 05:47 AM | Wait, retired? Your DM wouldn't let you play a LE baboon? There are some Prc's that let you ignore the "Forced Alignment" thing. Or you could ask if you could sort of Merge the two conflicting mindsets, ending up a LN character. Worth a try. |
| kinjojones03-01-06, 01:13 PM | well what PrCs are those and what book do they come from? Also I'd retire the character myself as I have no interest playing an evil character at least in this campaign. |

| Leap_UK03-02-06, 04:01 AM | Accept the change of alignment (as a player) then get an atonement later to change it (as a character) :) But then I dont allow Lawful (or born) shapeshifters; its always a "curse" and a chaotic one at that....which probably doesnt help :) |
| cypherx03-02-06, 06:38 PM | keep in mind, the minor creation spell can make belladonna. use spells to jack up your constitution and saves! paladins have some immunity to disease, double check if it protects from magic disease (you might be a paladin) even if you fail, all is not lost, certain potions can prevent you from going bare bottomed, you could consult your dm on an elixar that delays the onset of babboonism. a miracle or wish spell should be able to lock your alignment, but lifting the actual curse might require some special service to a deity or a specific ingrediant in the spell. don't be afraid to have your character throw himself on his sword to "avoid the taint of evil". better to die with honor than to live in sin. |
