| Longshott03-27-05, 04:05 AM | i am a monk and my wisdom is 16...how would a wisdom that high affect how the character is played. I need a pic of a monk can anyone lead me in hte right direction to find one. |
| Black_Dog03-27-05, 05:03 AM | If you take the average wisdom of the average human (10), and then take a look around at your average friends with attention payed to their wisdom, you will then begin to understand the bench mark for the comparison. Now you have to understand that a 16 ability score is very high. I would therefore suggest that you play your monk with this comparison in mind. For pictures of your characters I would suggest this site: http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/portraits/ I use it almost exclusively, but then I also have some Photoshop skills that I can call upon to alter the original portraits. |

Wisdom is common sense: A 16 shows he has a lot of common sense. Sounds like he'd be down to earth. Wisdom is Intuition: He'd trust his gut more than over-analyzing things. |
| Plastik03-27-05, 03:33 PM | He'd also know a lot. A lot lot. Study up on the areas you're running through. Ask the DM for background, unless you're in a campign world, in which case get the book, or go to a bookstore and read it. |

| On_the_wings_of_TPK03-27-05, 05:03 PM | As for the RP of the score, i'd say that he is a very balanced character. Calm and down to earth, carefully considers his actions, never really trust poeple untill he gets to know them first. He's a monk, so i would sujest playing him like a Jedi. Calm and in controll at all times. As for character portraits, UltimateReality and I did google image searches and came up with very positive results for ours.. |
| Feriin03-27-05, 11:40 PM | I think wisdom is more or less how one preceves his environment. That said it is who well he pays attention to things, IE details, names, places, location of items.. |
| Deflare03-28-05, 01:20 AM | There's a difference between knowing the history of a place and taking note of how the geography can best be used for various things. Intelligence is knowing that a tree is an oak; Wisdom is noticing the roots that are stuicking up that you want to avoid and could use to make enemies trip over. Both useful, but with different applications. Someone with a wisdom of 16 would be very aware of his surroundings. The rest of his personality depends on his Intelligence and Charisma. Someone with high Wisdom and high Charisma would be a brilliant speaker, with intimate knowledge of his audience. High Wisdom combined with high Intelligence makes a man that is just plain brilliant. All three... makes someone that could form an army that could conquer the world, but won't because he knows that the world isn't worth conquering. Remember: Just because he has a high Wisdom doesn't mean that he's a wet blanket. That's only if his Charisma is low, too. |
| Plastik03-28-05, 01:41 AM | That's governed by the Knowledge skills, which are INT based. The modifier on Knowledge checks is? (Time's up, thest down. It's Wis. Don't look at your sheet. You failerated, but the curve means you got a B+.) He'd have basic knowledge of the area and likely most of the monsters. But that's a lot more than everyone else has. Wis is a skill I hate to max, because it involves knowledge, and knowledge invoves, well, studying. Intelligence is knowledge. Wisdom is inherent thought processes. Intelligence knows wat happens. Wis understands why. |
| Deflare03-28-05, 01:56 AM | The modifier on Knowledge checks is? (Time's up, test down. It's Wis. Don't look at your sheet. You failerated, but the curve means you got a B+.) *looks at character sheet* I'm sorry, I think you misread something; Knowledge uses the Int modifier. Further, I think that you have Intelligence and Wisdom backwards; Intelligence governs factual knowledge and the ability to reason things out, while Wisdom governs awareness and your understanding of the consequences of your actions. Thus, knowledge of the history, politics, etc. of an area is Intelligence; understanding how those will affect the future of the area is Wisdom. A fine distinction, yes, but still a distinction. |
| Chandaroon03-28-05, 10:26 PM | Ahh, the age old question Wisdom vs. Intelligence? Well, I'd like to start by refering you to Mr. Miagi or Confucious. These would be to clasic references to Wise people. That being said. Monk's add their Wisdom to their AC. You could say that they use their Wisdom as a sixth sense. Someone said "Intuition". That would be a good description. Survival is a Wisdom based skill. Some people have been referring to your character knowing the area, and such. This is wrong unless you are from that area. Now there are a few things that you could say about this. Examples : If you grew up in the woods you would be able to survive better in the woods than someone that grew up in the city. And Vice versa. Your character would be more aware of his immedeate surroundings. More perceptive so to speak. Spot is a Wisdom based skill. A class skill for Monks incidentally. Sombody also suggested to act like a Jedi. This is also a good reference. Yoda was very wise. Many of the Jedi Masters class skills are wisdom based. If you are into Star Wars RPG. Ahh, Grasshopper, you are learning. |
