A friend of mine decided he wanted to try his hand at DMing after a long break from being DM (about a year long). He is a good DM and leans to the story telling style rather than by the book rules. But, that is really not the point of this post. You see I can't seem to think of a character to be. I have no ideas or concepts for a character AT ALL. It is really annoying.

The only characters I know are going to be in the party are:
A NorCG Wizard of some kind...
A LN Minator Fighter. He is trusted friend and is willing to fight some one to the death to be a minator. We all put our heads together and thought of a way to balance things out so everything will be fine.

There is one other person who I have no idea what he is going to do for his character. The campaign will be in Greyhawk and will the party and story will heavily lean towards good alignments. (The minator player will even become LG over time.) So any ideas what to do?

Well, some sort of rogue or divine caster could be useful in that party make up.

The drunken Paladin who many think has "Fallen" but in reality he is just bored and is going crazy with all of the lawlessness he see's around him. Then this adventure comes along....

First advice is to talk to Player #4 and see if you can figure out what he's going to do. If not, you might have to consider a multifaceted character. If you're not interested in a cleric, you might consider making a bard. Before you laugh, bards make great additions to small parties. They manage to be passable at many of the things rogues do, can assist with healing, and fight decently in a pinch. If I were you, I'd focus on the kinds of spells the Wizard ISN'T doing. You'll probably find yourself the group's primary "face man," which can be an awful lot of fun to roleplay.

And don't forget the usefulness of those 3.5e Bard Illusions plus the ability to wear armor. Bards are a great flavor class, and they can be pretty handy in many situations, if you build them right. They're proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, shortbow, short sword, and whip. They're also proficient with light armor and shields. Pick up a chain shirt at the first opportunity. Couple that with a good DEX and you should have a decent armor class.

You won't get sneak attack damage, so you shouldn't necessarily worry about tumbling into a flank position, although it's very "bard-ish" and might be worth it sometimes.

Pick your spells carefully, mindful of the fact that you'll get more use out of "flexible" spells (like Prestidigitation and Silent Image) than by trying to do direct damage.

Personally, I like to spend my feats amping up my combat abilities so that I can hold my own in a fight. At first level, a longsword is probably your best choice for a melee weapon (since you can't qualify for weapon finesse without a +1 BAB). You're probably best either going the archery route (point blank short and precise shot make you a deadly archer) or the dodge/mobility route (although improved initiative is nice too).

Just a few thoughts.
