| MaryContrary04-01-07, 11:46 AM | Seems there is always a post around here where some poor gamer whines about how unfair their DM is or how the other players powergame or don't roleplay or whatever. And I always feel like "Dang. Glad I'm not in that group." And I always want to tell them "Pfft. Just quit and find a better group." But then again I can only guess how hard it must be to a find decent gamer group. In the end I always just feel bad for the person and don't really have any good advice because I don't think it's likely that a bad group or DM will ever change. And since I've been with my group...well....just forever...I don't want to tell anyone to quit their group because what if they can't find another one better? So I don't usually post a reply at all. But I am suddenly really, really happy with my group. My DM probably won't win any award or anything but he loves DMing and he loves showing us a good time. We may see right through whatever he's planning about half the time...but the other half he really surprises us. He plans each session around our characters, we're almost always challenged and TPKs only happen by chance. Why we're even as likely as not to dump a whole campaign right in the middle of it to go and do something else we've got ourselves excited about and he's almost always fine with that. As long as we're having fun he's happy and what the heck more could you really ask of a DM than that? My fellow players like to have fun at the table but they don't ever sidetrack the session with a half hour dirty joke contest. Johnny's and Ally's character always fall in love and get married (assuming the campaign goes on that long) but they do it in an entertaining way. We love our characters but rarely go through all the trouble of optimizing them or nitpicking which feats we take. We love to roleplay but that won't stop us from just deciding to jump down into the pit and fight that hydra just to see if we can get away with it. Our characters can take up as much as a third of our game time talking, arguing or even fighting (in our favorite campaign our characters spent half of a marathon gaming session roleplaying out a halfling birthday party...our favorite session to date) then turn around hack through the session so fast that it makes the DM's head spin. I love my gamer group. Wouldn't trade it for any other and feel really, really bad for each and every RPG addict out there that isn't as lucky as me. So I'm taking this opportunity to say how great my group is. Johnny, Ally and Matt are the best! The Weekend Warriors roxxors yer boxxers! Here's to another decade or three of saving the village/kingdom/country/galaxy! :pint: Love your group? Give them a shout out here and let the rest of us know we're not the only ones so lucky. |
| KillerVole04-01-07, 06:45 PM | I am incredibly happy with my current D&D group. Sure, it's a bit big, and they get off topic from time to time, but they make DMing fun, and always do interesting things. |
| Daydreamer04-01-07, 06:53 PM | i also love my group-its just that ppl with bad groups need help with addressing the issues and are looking for assistance with that. Posts about how good your group are almost like taunting-nah nah my groups good you guys suck, or simply pointless. like 'things are fine here' -ok well good for you. lol so there really is no point to posting about how good things are, its when stuff hits the fan or u have specific questions that you make a post. |
| DarkNick04-01-07, 07:48 PM | Do you love your group long time? Ick, get a room people :gah: americans? |
| FntsyWlkr04-02-07, 05:02 PM | I as well have a great group. Very smart funny people. ... in fact, I'm probably the worst gamer of the group! We do have our differences. That's true. All groups do. But just as people I truly respect and enjoy each one. They are all funny and well spoken. Tom, Chris, Shawn, Jeremy, Jon, Kevin, Jeff ... shout out. (It's good to hear the good as well as the bad.) |
| jstoller04-02-07, 05:33 PM | I as well have a great group. Very smart funny people... Tom, Chris, Shawn, Jeremy, Jon, Kevin, Jeff ... shout out. Thanks David! You're very kind. I hate you. :D |
| kamuishirou04-02-07, 07:03 PM | I love my current group and loved my group in Stuttgart as well. Though sadly again I'm being sent away due to the needs of the Navy. I just keep my fingers crossed that I can find people that play in Bahrain. |
| Pfisiar04-02-07, 08:03 PM | You know what they say about the squeaky wheel needing the grease? THere are mostly complainers here because bad groups need tinkering. Good groups can be left alone. I also have to say that my group rocks. |
| navar10004-02-07, 11:18 PM | Love my group too. The rogue brings in genuine enthusiasm. The only thing he knows about the rules is playing a rogue. He doesn't fully know how his numbers are derived and always needs help levelling his character, but he knows enough to play the character - where to find his skill numbers, what die to roll, etc. Seriously, he's really, really happy he has the Dodge Feat. (I like it too, but it's often derided.) For the first time ever he multi-classed into ranger and will eventually go into a dedicated warrior home-brew prestige class the DM made for him. He actually showed some player growth by wanting to fight really, really well instead doing roguish-things. He still plays the rogue personality and will not give up the rogue profession, but he's learning and caring about being a dedicated warrior. He still likes sneak attack and will try to enable it, but that's no longer his sole motivation in combat. He's not even looking for wands of Fireball anymore! The potential cebremancer knows the game. He knows the spells and knows the powers. He knows what feats to take. I like that I'm not the only player to know the rules so well. He can come up with a good strategy when we need it most. Our druid doesn't let the party down. As a group we tease each other, and she's no exception to dishing it out, but when someone is in trouble she'll do what she can. Last game session her wolf helped me big time. I was encased in an ectoplasmic coccoon. The wolf attacked and tripped a bad guy who was carrying me away. He kept the bad guy occuppied until I was freed. Even though we are 5th level, interestingly she has yet to wildshape. She likes using two-weapons. She's not playing a druid optimally as people here would say, but it doesn't matter. Our psion is the DM's wife. She started to play with us at the end of last campaign. She is new to D&D. She also will go out of her way to help a party member. She even does so when a party member is not in trouble, providing a bit of help or gift by her own choice. Then there's the warlock, me, and I'm such a wonderful guy all around. :D The DM runs a high powered game. I'm grateful he appreciates my tendency to Rules Lawyer :hides: . When he does make a rule mistake he fixes it (I don't always point it out. Sometimes it's the cebremancer; othertimes I didn't even know, and the DM fixed it on his own.). He will ask me if he's unsure because it's a question of a situation that never came up before. Nevertheless, he has his Rule 0's, and that's just the way it is. What I like about the game is that our characters matter. What we do affects what happens in the world. There are consequences, and there are good consequences. NPCs, both villains and friends, take special notice of us. |
| Solian04-03-07, 08:53 AM | My group is awesome, their all pretty new to the game, but have grasped the rules extremely wuickly and have started to shine in the campaign world! their doing really well. They always have a few tricks up their sleeve as well to get us out of tricky situations and they work really well together, helping each other out. |
| Magnus02904-03-07, 11:21 AM | :weep: now I am longing to get back with my group, thanks guys! /sarcasm off Seriously I do look forward to getting back into my gaming as soon as are schedules allow for it. Craig you RP genius you! Jared... Optimizing *****! Adrian... well, you will figure it out someday I miss you guys |
| Tyraxus04-03-07, 12:06 PM | I love my current group and loved my group in Stuttgart as well. Though sadly again I'm being sent away due to the needs of the Navy. I just keep my fingers crossed that I can find people that play in Bahrain. USN? My aunt was stationed in Bahrain just after 9/11, she said she saw people playing D&D on-base. Granted she came home (Naval Reserve) 2-1/2 years ago, but you still ought to be able to find somebody. I'd like to shout out to my group, but nobody reads the boards, so it'd just go to waste. Meh, if any of you guys are reading, you're the best, and I'll be back in a month or so! |
| Saxis04-03-07, 03:06 PM | My group is also great. There are 7 of us, 4 of which DM. We usually keep about 3 campaigns going at a time, and try to play 2 times/week. Not everyone is able to show up all the time, but we can almost always get a party of 3-4 together every time we play. Ages range from 25-50+, and we're all pretty good friends even outside of the game. |
| FntsyWlkr04-03-07, 03:36 PM | Thanks David! You're very kind. I hate you. :D LOL! ... and that's Jeremy! (a la Wild Animal Park) |
