I'm on a solo campaign and my DM (wizards username Le_Cheffet_Italiano) has the following set up:
My character is the son of a god, and the god is Rivven Karlsenfi (see Deities and the planes' thread called "My PC's are going to ascend..."). Rivven is helping me out a tad on my adventures, and I am a lvl 1 Paladin. My DM has a house rule that states that True Dragons can be trained, and I have a mount as a special present: a Styx Dragon. He is a Very-Young aged Styx Dragon who reincarnated himself from being Rivven's friend. My DM is looking for adventures, and I'm looking for tips on how to fight monsters, what tactics are good for different monsters, and some of the basic stuff that's not in the PHB (players handbook).

Help? :(

it all depends on what you are fighting.

A few basic things that I can say would be...

1. If you are fighting Archers, get close to them so when they attack you can get an attack of Op

2. If you are fighting monster with reach, stay out of reach, make sure to have a ranged weapon

3. Make use of your own attacks of op, let them monster come to you, so when he comes within range, you can get a free attack in

4. Don't rely on one kind of weapon, keep a weapon for each type of damage, or a weapon that has different types of damage, so you can better overcome different damage reductions

5. As a Paladin, don't attack a helpless foe either, you will lose your paladinhood very quickly

6. also as a paladin, out of your stats, you are going to want to get your Cha up pretty high, it will help with your saving throws

Actually in the archives off of the D&D homepage you can find pre-made adventures. As far as tactics for fighting monsters I would suggest that you and your dm look into getting the D&D for Dummies Book (seriously, there is one and it has some good advice in it) and the DM-ing for Dummies Book (when it hits the stores, this month if I remember correctly)
