Read the Class section that pertains to your character as well as the Race section to learn the basics of what your character can do. Then read the rest of the book more than once in order to get a good grasp. Once you have done that you will have specific questions we can all answer for you. Sorry, there is no quick easy way to learn, we all read the books then ask questions. |

I would also suggest downloading the System Reference Document (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35), or SRD for short. (all the way at the bottom there is one big download that has everything in it, so you don't need to worry about downloading about 500 different things) |
| KAPtain Braindead04-29-04, 05:41 AM | The big thing is to play what kind of character you want to play. Since you are starting out, I suggest playing either a fighter or a rogue. Try to avoid spellcasting classes (bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, and wizard) because the magic stuff is complicated to explain-but as I said, play what you want to play. As for background, think of why your character left home. Was he/she run out of town for doing something naughty? Was the character's home ruined in a battle? Or did you just want to see the world/gain fame and fortune? How about the character's family? A true love? Friends? Are they still alive and going to be happy to see the character again? This is the plot hook section of your background. It is for the DM to use later to involve your character in upcoming adventures. Personality is your attitude and goals section. How do you react to strangers? How good are your manners? Do you have any phobias? How about an overriding hatred for something? What are you after in life (wealth, power, fame, universal peace, a place to call "home")? This is important stuff. This will guide you on how to play your character, so think carefully. |

Asking your boyfriend questions on the game not only shows interest and trust in him, but may very well encourage your relationship to grow - as communication should do. Besides, if you found the boards here, it is likely he has too, and may even answer this post. Wouldn't that be amusing? ;) |
