I'm thinking of playing a repentant mindflayer of sorts. That is, I want her to have been rescued by the party after having been treated horribly by her former owners. To show that she's more than willing to follow the party with unyielding fealty, I'm going to have her remove her tentacles and then wrap a bandage around her head. You know, try to get her as far away from mindflayer-dom as possible. I might even think of hampering her psionic abilities somehow. I would need to work that out with my DM. He might even let me lower the LA. But that's beside the point...Anyways, I to be getting The Book of Exalted Deeds soon so I think I'll be going the various Vows that are contained therein.

Unfortunately, that's all I've got. Someone wanna help a fellow player out? Thanks in advance.^^

Iirc, mindflayers must exist on brains. If you're going to do this, you should probably invest in a Ring of Sustenance so you don't starve to death.

I didn't know that mindflayers needed to eat brains. I just thought that was there claim to fame. You know, they don't need it, but they're pretty tasty. Like caviar.

Not only that, I did mention the Vows. I think one of them allows no consumption of food. If brains are to mindflayers as food is to humanoid, then I don't need the brains.

Oh, well if you've got a built-in ability to remain alive without food (I don't have the BoED and am not familiar with the functions of the exalted feats, other than their ability to tick people off), you should be fine giving up your brain extraction ability.

There's an interesting discussion on the mature board regarding 'flayers. It seems that they were once humans, who had a worm implanted in their brain so that they developped into Illithid. The problem is, if you run away from Illithid, you're running away from your own "afterlife" in which you merge with the Elder Brain.

You won't get that ability until level 5. So for 4 levels, you have exist on brains, unless you get a ring of sustenance. None of that matters as im sure sucking someone's brain out through their face/ear would NOT be accordance with anything pertaining to being exalted.

AN exalted Mind Flayer? OK I can buy a repentant one, perhaps LN or closing towards LG, but exalted? That means Paladins generally think you're too righteous!

I would keep the tentacles, it's after all as much part of mindflayers as beards are dwarven (more actually). And brains are fun :)

You could limit yourself to only feeding on evil creatures, and then only once they're already dead. Perhaps you even can stick to animals. Cows and pigs have brains too, right? Might not taste as good, but you gotta sacrifice something!

In any case, cool character concept!

her

Mind Flayers have no gender - they are utterly asexual. They reproduce by implanting a grub into the brain of a humaniod - which then morphs the victim into another Mind Flayer.

Appart from that, it sounds interesting.
