Version 3.5 to boot! The DM has his game room wired for sound and some freaky lighting, and will shoot vid and cool graphics to a monitor for players to see. He has tons of cool music and sound effects at his fingertips. It's all very nice.

I am apparently old school; I do not need all the fx and niftyness, but I am enjoying this new way to game. The 'theater of the mind' is getting a little creaky and appreciates the help.

Anybody else got a DM that has more than a little too much free time on his hands?

Next thing you know, he'll be doing like they're doing in Full Frontal Nerdity and build robots with webcams so people from far away can play.

I think I said this once before somewhere on this board, but I have gone so far as to go into the woods for an entire night and play only by campfire and moonlight. Oh, and to have my faithful assistant DM spook the players at just the moment the vampire got the drop on the party. ;) Only time they ever let me trick them into that little stunt...

Other than that, I always make ancient looking and feeling scrolls for really important story documents by careful application of rips, tears, coffe, a ligther and a little ironing. When my players roll out the ancient treasure map they got from the evil (insert villain here), it really looks and feels ancient and only smells faintly of coffee. I only do this somewhat rarely, but boy is it a good story hook- can you imagine saying no to something like that? :D

Always wanted to do more music in my games... but someone broke my Icewind Dale sountrack CD, which is some of the best music for a fantasy game you can find. :weep:

Haven't been doing all that much of stuff like this for a while though, mostly been playing under other DMs for the past year and a half, but I do get the occasional urge to help them by making a prop or three.

Sadly, my DM has NO time on his hands...haven't seen him in nearly a year now, the poor bastard.

My group's DM however, has LOTS of time for things like this, and makes it into a family project. :) And whenever I get my king-size HDTV, I'll be able to have even more fun hooking things up with my son for the game. ;)

Already have 7.1 surround with individual speaker control, remote lighting, TV-out hookup on the networked media center, more artwork and animations than you can shake a 2 gig memory stick at, and hotkeys, shortcuts, links, and music out the wazooooooooooo.

I blame my office for this...they give me near-unlimited bandwidth, an empty building, almost free reign over my network, and I work nights. You have to constantly come up with stuff to stave off the boredom. :D

As a DM, I try to use music whenever possible. I have drafted up documents before, but I don't usually do it now-a-days. I usually spend most of my time preparing maps... though more the world map than actual local maps.

Part of it is probably cause I do things through improv. I think if I tried to put together documents and the like, I'd probably wind up railroading my players to make sure they'd find them...

Well, that loss of improvisation is just exactly the problem I have with the game this guys running. I've been gaming for years, and I can see even cleverly hidden 'tracks'; the DM doesn't even bother to conceal them. I'm on the model-T ride of RPGing, that rail down the middle of the road keeps us all on a straight course right through the adventure-- despite that steering wheel in the car.

I got maybe to much free will for this sort of game.

Unfortunately, no. Although mine does like the idea of music, it's taken him a few months to come around to the idea of "music should add to ambience". I've been charged with finding some Gregorian chants for the tower with the books of Good and Evil in it. (I'm holding off on the search until I can reasonably ascertain we'll make it to the tower alive.)

So it also was up to me to make punch, spider cupcakes, graveyard dirt (chocolate cake, gummy worms, pudding), and cupcake cauldrons for tomorrow's session... He's not even doing a special side-session for Hallowe'en! *pout, whine* We have no decorations! :nonono:

I like the idea of props though. I'll have to remember to work that in when I get my group up and running...(I guess I'll show him how good it can be then. :D )
