Don't worry, you just need to play more, and think of new ways to improve your roleplaying skills (is that what you ment?)

*You will have to write more then a line to see about your English....

If YOU want to tell me something, you can do it without the forum!

The easiest way to learn to not be a bot is to play. Both me and my friends went through a sort of shell-shock faze when we transitioned from computer and console games to pen-and-paper D&D. We all had the deer in the headlight's look when the DM asked us what we wanted to do, and didn't just give us options on what we should do.

I find what helped me the most was that my first character was modeled around me (Granted, he was a Drow, and was actually quite dextrous and sneaky, but that's neither here nor there), so what I did was I closed my eyes and imagined myself being in the position of my character. I reacted like I would have in person. I talked to the town sherriff for a bit, then went to the tavern and had a blast with the barkeeper and select drunks. Then went out and found the sort of people us roguish types consort with.

Although a bit longwinded, my point is that it was easier for me to get out of the "kill things, get exp, loot body" mentality, when I started envisioning myself as my character.

I hope that helped.

PS: Your english is good, it makes me happy when I can understand the questions asked :)

What is your character's name?

Why is he adventuring?

What was his life like growing up, and where did he grow up?

Interview your character, and write his answers down on a page. This will get you in tune with him, and give him life. You will find that his answers may surprise you.

Well to start off you need to know where your character is adventuring.
then you need a town or some such where you character originates, was he a beated neglected street kid or from a wealthy family, did family go on poor times and they sold you to salt mines ?
It's all up to you to figure it out what could made a character like yours to end up as an adventurer.

Also some stats and background would be helpful for the rest of us.

Then there is little more that can be done to help you.

P.S. How's my english?

Terrible.

A character doesn't just "happen" overnight. It takes time to develop a character to the point where it is distinctly different from your own personality.

Some useful shortcuts that you should think about are:

What does this character believe?
Does this character have any superstitions?
Does this character have family?
How did this character relate to his family?
What was the character's most recent history before the campaign started?
What was the last job the character held, and why did he leave it?
Does this character have a particular mannerism, like always saying "That's the way we do it" when he succeeds at a task?

Did you read through the Character Development board?

PS. You spelled "but" "feeling" and "character" wrong.

Well aside from the definition above it can also be a program that mimics interactions.

This might help as well.

I will try not to talk over you, since you sincerely seem to have a problem with English.

1) Characters which are most like you are easiest to roleplay.

If you are having trouble roleplaying a character make it more like yourself.

2) Characters with long, well-developed histories are easier to roleplay once you've written out the history.

Writing down who your character is, and what he has done, will make you better at seeing and thinking like your character.

2A) If you are having problems writing a history, keep it simple by mimicing the tragedies you see in fantasy stories. Parents slain by wolves, forced to spend long time alone in the wilderness, sent to join the church at a young age where a stern, abrasive, talk-down-to-you-type (curmudgeonly) teacher helped forge you into the man that you are, etc.

Histories do not need to be from birth to do death. They really only have to cover the major points in a character's life; what events make your character who he is today?

3) Certain classes are more difficult to roleplay.

Stay away from paladins, monks, knights, and clerics

3A) If you are a cleric keep him simple, like the friar out of Robinhood stories.

4) Ask yourself how does your character see himself? How does he think of his abilities? What does he want in life?

Once you know what your character wants in life it will come to you how your character sees himself and what he thinks of his abilities.

5) Keep Age and Race in mind.

How mature your character is can be important. Racial prejudice and non-human culture can also help fill out your character.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I believe he is saying he wants not to come off like a robot or a automatic program when he plays.

If you are worried about playing like a bot I suggest starting with a character with low WIS, CHA, and perhaps INT. By low I mean 10 or less so you do not cripple your mechanics but so that roleplaying your mental stats isn't so difficult.

Don't mind his mistakes, as his DM it's my duty to explain....
He's having problems with roleplaying. (SPOILER:*because he's religios, and it's forbiding him to act freely... at most of the cases through.*SPOILER)
By saying ".....bot" he means like a robot... or in other words based on functions.... not as a real person, and he wants help with that.... it can't be helped he must learn to think outside of the box thats all.

Now if ya'all wanna help him out a bit, here's his character:
X (not yet decided name) is a famous monk, I mean everybody knows him for his father.... who's famous.
He's level 20, never been through adventuring, really skilled and the son of the most powerfull man on earth.
He has only 4,000 studients under his command (he's a master)
One day a storm comes to the lands and suckes him into a black hole in the sky... He finds himself on a beach near a hot looking elven wizard. And he's actully in a god game which he must survive with his co-mate (the elf)

Edit: in any case you didn't understand me... the elf is a female.

as I've said before here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=914037)

First: ask for help (to your DM to your fellow players and to us)

Now ask yourself:

Who is my character?: I don't mean the name nor his age nor his race... but who is he... why is he an adventurer? Is he an only child? does he has 25 brothers and/or sisters? were did he lived? why did he decided to leave that place? was he the son of an honest farmer? or the son of a Noble in disgrace? or maybe the son of an evil warlord?

This will help you decide his past... wich will help you pick a class choose your skills and/or feats next

What hapened to him X (X=1<X>5) year(s) prior to the adventure start?: maybe you filled this in the previous question... maybe not... this will help you come to an Alignment (Remember the Alignment is just a guide not a shackle)

What does he want?: Well... he went out of his home... maybe some raiders destroyed it and now he wants revenge... or he wants to honor his family legacy as one of the greatest knights! or just live a happy life and know many people

This will help you decide Short-Mid-Long term goals for your character once you come with this talk to your DM and find out if you can add some of the info into the campaign i.e.

Sir Igneo Argentlam LG Human Paladin

Sir Igneo Argentlam was the older son of a humble but honest farmer. He lived with his both his parents and his 3 little brothers and one baby sister... he was born in a time of war between his home nation and their neighbours... altough his hometown "fictionalville" wasn't near the border every now and then the forces of the kingdom of "somewere" attacked the village... the town decided to form a city guard and asked for help to the capital of "nowere" the city of "this place" to send someone to organize the guard... the soldiers they send started doing a fine job but after two years without attacks the soldiers grew overconfident and started bullying the townspeople along with some of the teenagers of the city... one day a Paladin came to the town... it was Igneo's 12th birthday... he saw the threatment the guards gave not only to the towns people but also to the foreigners so he arrested the soldiers and sended them back to "this place" with his companions and trained a militia to help them protect the place... Before he left "fictionalville" Igneo asked him to train him to be a knight... the Paladin talked to his father and took the young Igneo with him... Igneo took the paladin's last name as his own to be accepted in the order and start his training.

With this first paragraph we can make an idea of what moves Igneo... he suffered in the hand of corrupt law force and he wouldn't like to see it happen again... due to his farming background he might be used to a simple life or maybe he spends lots of wealth to compensate for the lack of privileges he had when he was young... he has a family back at "fictionalville" so he might want to go there every now and then... now on to the second question

Sir Igneo was knighted at a young age and soon after it he was send to scort a Cleric of "Deity" during the vollage he met an elven maiden named "Vorel" who was a Bard and the misterious but powerfull wizard "Boomer" during his firsts 2 years of paladinhood he tryed to force his own code not only to his companions but to everyone he saw... he had little patience for evil deeds and there was not petty evil in his mind... the code must be honored no matter what... son after the first mision his hubris made him fall from paladinhood and he reclused himself away from everyone blaming his falling on everyone and everything but him... this internal hate atracted the attention of a demonlord who wanted to get a blackguard to destroy the beutiful land of "nowere" to take revenge on those who sealed him... he attracted the young and proud Igneo towards his quarels and tryed to convince him to take the Black ritual and turn into a Blackguard... right before he could start the door of the hidden chamber opened and the 3 beings who loved him the most were there... first there was the now old Sir Argus Argentlam, next to him the beautiful Vorel and finally boomer... Igneo saw in their eyes their concern and decided not to continue walking this dread path... the demonlord was angered and lashed against the group mortally wounding Vorel... then Boomer and the 2 Argentlams fought the demon weakened because of the strengh of the 2 argentlams and the mitical sword "Ohmightyshinnyslashingthingy" and was banished from the land... again... feeling sorrow for his beloved friend Igneo decided to ask for a second chance to walk the true path of goodnes and realized that his fall was because altough he followed the leter of his code he forgot about the meaning and spirit of it... now he decided to roam the world until the day he would be able to regain his status as a paladin

Here we have a little about what moves Igneo in the "now" he is probably NG now (if we started the campaign right after they healed or raised Vorel)... he is a humble man who doesn't force his point of view on the others... maybe both Vorel and Boomer are other party members so they have a reason to trust each other... Sir Argus can be a patron or an ideal for the young Igneo and maybe he would try to live his life as he did.

Now onto part three

Igneo regained his paladinhood and the shadow of a new war is falling over the kingdomes of Nowere and Somewere... he doesn't want to see people suffering so he is now trying to get a peacefull and diplomatic solution... but he is not fool so he is training militias among the many villages of his hometown... his only wish is to avoid this war...and any other war that might come in a future... Train new paladins not only to know the code but to live its spirit... and have a nice and comfortable life with Vorel

So we have a short term goal: train as many nowerers as he can
A mid term goal: reach a peacefull solution between the kingdoms
A long term goal: train new paladins in the future and teach them from his past mistakes
And another long term solution (and probably an idea of what the player wants to do with his character after the campaign): have a nice life with vorel and live happily everafter
