Basically, I've acquired a new Dragon Cohort, a Gold wyrmling, and I need a name for him.

I mean, the DM told me to name the intelligent sword I found in a horde whatever I liked and I couldn't think of anything. By our houserule, any character that doesn't have a name is called Steve until the PC comes up with something better. So now I have a sword named Steve. I'd prefer NOT to have my Dragon buddy named the same thing! Someone please give me ideas! I don't care for the Draconomicon sample names for Golds, they're all too "oriental".

How about the sample names for some of the other dragon types?

Those aren't too bad, but none of them seem..."right" I guess.

Do you have any of Tolkien's works? In back of some versions of the Lord of the Rings and/or Silmarilian is a wonderful abbreviated dictionary of elvish words that would let you make a name that meant something and sounded cool at the same time.

Or you could just name him Chrysopholax.

or

are good places to start.

Gloorinamlug means Gold Dragon. Or you could pick something more thematic, like Rhofel - Eagle Wing, or Daimoth - Heaven, or Gwilgloorin - Flying Gold.

In my campaign world, all my dragons have Biblical names (from many religions). I have dragons that go by names such as Moroni, Azriel, Kali, Kain, etc.

Still can't spell Nebucanezzer though. ^_^ He's a Black Dracolich. Owie!

After perusing the Draconomicon once more, I took one of the Red Dragon names and stripped off a few syllables. Her name is now Fyra.

Thanks for all your help, everyone

Zlato (czech for gold) is much more original sounding than, Fyra!

Fyra? Come on, because no one can see that it sounds like fire...

The council of wyrms 2nd edition is a pretty good example. Many gold dragons had "Au" somewhere in the name, usually at the beginning. Silver's had "Ag" at the beginning. Those are the chemical compound abbreviations for gold and silver.
