I need a name for a Sword... [Archive] - Wizards Community

I need help coming up with a name for sword, well actually a Rapier.

This is going to be a Chaotic weapon, with the special purpose of eliminating SpellCasters who get too tough and oppresive. My Character had some bad times with the League of Mages when he was growing up (killed his family) and has since grown up and is getting to the point where he can start taking some serious action. I just took the feat 'Item Familiar', well my DM's version of it (mostly same in concept), and this rapier is going to be my familiar.

I am starting out with it being Anarchic, Keen and +1, and know I will be adding in MAge Bane and COnstruct Bane (they have their own versions of Inevitables as guards).

I am mostly an Urban Ranger type with an affinity for Air/Chaos, and need a good name for this weapon. (And if you have any ideas on how it could look really cool, let me know.)

Thanks,

Kill an important mage with it. Then name it '<insert name of caster>'s Bane'.

Guildbreaker is another good one.

Fang of <insert anti-arcane magic diety here>

Mortis de Arcanix

Fate

By the way, where is this Item Familiar feat?

Eventually, the weapon will gain sentience and you will want to communicate with it. Can you really picture youself saying, "What do you think we should do now, Mortis De Arcanix?" or, "What should we do today, Slayer of Souls?"

No, you need a good respectable name. I suggest "Robert."

Mageslayer (a little on the obvious side)
Glamdring (blatantly stolen, but has a nice ring :D )
One of these (http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/sindarin), these (http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/celtic-f), or even one of these (http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/celtic-m)

Y'know what? Just browse through Chris Pound's Name Generators (http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/). I'm sure you'll come up with something to your liking.

Oh - and remember, Google is your friend. The above links were discovered by searching for "fantasy names" ;)

As daft as DM Zoc puts it, he may have a point if your sword does become sentient.

You want to be able to say '*name* said something really funny the other day' and 'This is my sword *name*. No, I am not a nutter, he's sentient, he's a talking sword. Go on *name* say something. Go on. For gods sake I hate when you do this. Honestly, he can talk really, he's just playing silly buggers thats all. Listen *name*, you embarress me one more time.......'.

You need a good straight name for this routine to really work though. Now i think about Robert is pretty good. Or Dave. Or Colin.

Call it "Z" in casual conversation, if anyone asks, the full name is "Zee pointy end goes between your ribs"...might be too much Zorro though...

I say call it "Sword" or perhaps "Swordy Sword" or maybe even "Swordy Sword Swordensen III."

If it has an anti-magic ability, the simplicity of "Void" might do nicely. Use it to break into a mage-tower and you get the bonus of having the cheesy line "Void where prohibited."

I'm having a thought, since it's going to be your character that names HIS(or her) sword, you might need to consider Int/Wis/Cha stats, to see how interesting a name you should be looking for.

More suggestions:
Murry
<murder'd father/mother's name>
<animal companion's name> (what's good for one....)
Slash
Vengence ("Feel the cold sting of Vengence!")
"Sunder THIS :censored:"
"I want my father back you son of a :censored:" (only if your name is Inigo Montoya)
Revenge
Murry
Kidney Tickeler
Lung Popper
Heartbreaker (ugh?)
Scarmaker
Murry
Santrilla

I was going to post some smart aleky names, but frankly, I just cannot top Murry. Hats off to JadeSpider9643. Bravo.

Stabby was a close second, though.

1. It's Murray.
2. If it's going to become sentient, you should name it Artemis Clydefrog.

2) Magedrinker

If it becomes sentient simply abbreviate "sense any mages about C.S.?"
"What do you think M?"
