| Kraik04-06-08, 08:03 AM | Hey there I'm playing in a campaign where there's only the 2 of us as PC's. I play a wood Elf Ranger/Scout and the other player plays a Human Sorcerer (the character has the leadership feat and has a rogue/assassin cohort as well as 6 mages with her) The problem I'm having is that my character wouldn't stay with this Sorcerer. The character is the head of a mages guild and has the leadership feat and i was with them because i was guiding them to a Wood Elf city at the other end of a forest island. We've gotten there now and been past it and i have no idea why my character would stick by the sorcerer because i get treated really badly a recent example of this would be that the characters went through a malfunctioning portal (campaign objective is to find out WHY their malfunctioning) and we ended up in the middle of a cave full of Dire Bats at night. We were able to fight them off but one of her mages got to -9 HP so i stepped over, stablised him and stood over the mages body protecting him because my characeter had recently formed a bond with this mage over a previous misunderstanding. Anyway as i was protecting him, i was taken down by a bats attack and was dropped to -2 hp. The others managed to kill the bats with an assortment of well aimed fireballs. After the combat was over, i was rolled off the mage under my body and the mage healed with a potion. Then they all sat down to eat and leave me to bleed to death. Now luck was with me and so i stabilised both times, woke up and took one of my potions of cure moderate so as to knock myself up to 3 hp. When i woke up, i saw them all eating and noticed that about an hour had passed. My character was a little ****** but because of his LN alignment as well as his military training, he kept himself in check and didn't get angry (although he does sometimes). We all go to get some rest (me still on 3hp at this point) and the mages turn round and tell me to take an 8 hour watch by myself whilst they rest to get their spells back. At this point my character laughed in their faces and went off into the woods to rest, setting up traps and sleeping in a tree, as is the norm for him when he's not guiding travelers from one place to another. Now i need a reason for my character to return in the morning and stay with them. I was thinking something like guilt as he would feel guilty for leaving a band of mages in the forest with no knowledge of how to get out, but after so much stuff they've put him through and so many "tricks" they've played on him, my character just wouldn't want to take anymore, especially after his prior arrangement has been fulfilled. So i need you help on this, what advice do you people out there have for me? Thanks in advance -Kraik |

| kelvinaw27304-06-08, 09:26 AM | Leave, but insist that the campaign focus goes with you - after all, you are half the party! Why should they get all the attention? This will result in some heated OOC discussion in which you can point out that people who act like asshats get treated like them ... |

So is this a character issue or a player issue? Since you make no mention of having problems with the player, I am going to assume this is a character to character problem. From a character perspective I would ask the DM why the mage which "my character had recently formed a bond with" didn't help? Ask the other player why his character is being such a jerk? I imagine the Sor is evil or N tending toward evil (with an assasin as a cohort). From this deduction my opinion is your problem is playing a nonevil character in an evil group. My suggestion, have the elf just leave (I see no in character reason to go back), make a new evil character. DON'T pvp, but do think of yourself 1st. Hmm, an evil druid with the Leadership feat. Yummy. If it is a player issue (ie: the player is being a jerk), leave and find a new group. |
| Bloodsoul04-06-08, 01:15 PM | Is your character being paid for this guided tour? |
| Kraik04-07-08, 11:43 AM | Is your character being paid for this guided tour? No i'm not getting paid for it, i took them to the city for a friend but thats all It's a character to character problem, the player is one of my best friends and i'm going to have a talk with my DM about it all next time i get a chance, though we're not playing this week because the guy whose house we usually use has got something to do tonight so we can't go over -Kraik |
| Kerelis04-08-08, 09:26 AM | Wow, I'm not even sure what to say here.... Are you sure he's really your friend? Most people I know would have rp'd that so they could help your character out somehow. Even if evil, a Sor/mage-type would have healed the *cough* cannon fodder *cough* as best he could--especially if said 'cannon fodder' was their guide. I honestly don't understand this...I've never played with anyone so self-absorbed. I agree with previous posters...make a new character. Take Druid or even something like a cleric that can rebuke/command undead. You could then be much more self-sufficient. "Oh, you need healing? Oops, sorry I just spent my last healing spell...on myself. Cast it spontaneously? Oh, no, no...I can only cast inflict spells spontaneously." |
| WilliamTanner04-08-08, 12:06 PM | The other player doesn't need you, since he's got 7 characters of his own to play, and he clearly doesn't care if your character lives or dies. You have no reason to return. |
| dead_pool04-08-08, 05:54 PM | they have to see you to cast on you. hide in trees kill them all with your bow. then find a new group to play with |
| herrdoktor04-09-08, 04:34 AM | one angle you could take: your character sticks around with the jerkface so that he can get his revenge on him. perhaps work with a few BBEGs (or BBGGs if the sorc is evil (sounds a bit like)) 'off the radar' (very short sessions without the other player, notes passed to the dm, etc.); maybe some of those cohorts start to go missing. plus, great part about this is if he stops being a jerkface and starts treating your character like not-pondscum, your character can always guilt trip himself into becoming great friends with him |
| green_yawgmoth04-09-08, 11:36 AM | Honestly, it sounds like this player and the DM just want to have a mental whack-off session between themselves. Just say your character leaves, take your stuff with you as you leave, and let them know that when they want to start playing like decent human beings they can call you. |
| wonlee7604-10-08, 02:56 PM | I can see no IC reason for your wood elf to continue adventuring with this sorceror and his/her merry band. OOC, there's the obvious this is a team game but even then there are limits and they crossed several unwritten rules including leaving your character to "fend for himself" while he's bleeding to death. Talk to your buddy and DM ahead of time that your Scout/Ranger is leaving the sorceror and his/her band of cohorts and followers behind. DM will have two options, continue game with the Sorceror + followers/cohort as the center of attention or follow the adventures of the wood-elf wherever it takes him. My guess is he will choose the Sorceror only because I presume he already has plans for the sorceror. If you really want to screw with the DM and asshat PC, stick around and at a critical moment, attack the sorceror and kill him then run away. It would be a pretty LN thing to do unless killing the sorceror would complete negate your present assignment/goal. |
