| Steelwill06-12-04, 03:38 AM | Ok, I am not sure what you mean by Nightelf as I only have the corebooks available, but I will referance the Drow entry in the 3.5 Monster Manual. The Drow has a Level Adjustment of +2. This is not the same as saying the Drow is 2nd level. Drow advance by character class not monster hit dice, thus the Drow 1st level Warrior in the Monster Manual only receives 1 hit die for her level in the NPC Warrior class (1d8), but her level adjustment means she will gain xp as if she were a 3rd level character, and will not advance in level until she gains the minimum xp required to be a 4th level character. She however does have the starting equipment that a 3rd level character should have, per the average treasure per level chart in the Dungeon Masters Guide. The level adjustment makes it take longer for a monstrous character to level up initially, but exists to compensate for the innate monstrous abilities that make the monstrous race a bit superior to the standard character race, in the Drow's case things like access to Drow Poison and Spell Resistance. Just to carify and summarize, the Drow 1st Level Warrior has an Effective Character Level of 3, because if he 1 level in warrior, and her level adjustment of +2. She will not level up unstil she earns enough XP to become a 4th level character, and she can then add that level to her warrior class, to become a 2nd level warrior, or to another class if she wanted to multiclass like any other character, but she will be a 4th level character effectively, thus ECL: Effective Character Level. I hope this has been helpful. |

| SnowbearK06-12-04, 03:39 AM | I would say read the Player's Handbook. HP is determined by your class + Con bonus. What the Frug is a Nightelf anyways? |
| PaladinTook06-12-04, 03:40 AM | Well your HP (Hit Points) are based on your class (Ranger,Fighter,Cleric etc.) and not your race (Human,Elf,Dwarf etc). So we would have to know what class you are to help you out. I noticed you said you are a Night Elf though, could you possibly be playing the warcraft3 RPG? The above refers to D&D. |
| metlallicakid43006-12-04, 12:42 PM | I searched the core book and night elf is in the warcraft book. its like an expansion 4 dnd. more stuff. well i couldnt find it so do i roll my hit die + my con bonus and roll my hit die every level? |
| Ramius_Mordale06-12-04, 01:41 PM | Ah good old Warcraft gotta love it. Like the setting so far, I did when I played my druidic nightelf, but we quit sadly and I'm afraid we aren't going back to it ever. Well putting it in the musty tomes section. But in anycase, all you need to do is find your class hit dice and then reroll them again. But if your only 2nd level you have a +1 level adjustment so basically you have the max hit die for your 1st class level whatever that be. I'm hoping that's what you were asking for and have a great time with the setting. It's a blast, gotta love it in my opinion. Well good day.:tiphat: P.S. And yes you add your Con bonus to your hit die at every level you roll for hit points. |
| NinjaHedge06-12-04, 02:30 PM | I'm a nightelf and they start at level2 something tells me you might be doing this wrong. If you have a level adjustment you start out a level BELOW everyone else, not above. If everyone is starting at level 1, you cannot play a race with a level adjustment. |
| trapspringer06-12-04, 11:32 PM | You need to do one of two things: 1: Play a standard race from PHB and follow the steps on character creation in the front of the book. 2: Wait and talk to your DM. Ask him about level adjustment. If he doen't know what it is or how it works, you guys will need to ahve a study session and READ. Es mas Importante!!! Rules keep things going smoothly and prevent threads like "I can't challenge my players," "One PC is a lot stronger than the others," and "My DM is a jerk." I reccomend both 1 and 2. |
