I need character help (original yeah)... [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-28-07, 09:58 AM a friend of mine is going to start running the "shackled city" campaign, which i am very excited about as i have been wanting to go through that one for a long time.
i dont know too much at all about the campaign but want to make sure i come up with a usefull character for it.
i am planning to make a half-orc with the half-minotaur template, he will be a fighter with a couple lvl's of barbarian later on, the main weapon will be a goliath greathammer which he will use at the 3d6 dmg as he will be a large size humanoid.
the second option will be a drow (perhaps) with the "shadow" template on it, he will be some form of caster with the idea of becoming a shadow adept.
thus, my querry. without giving any details about the campaign, would one of these characters work better in it than another?

06-29-07, 01:10 AM Don't know the campaign at all myself, so I'm afraid not much I can do for ya...

But overall I'd look at the rest of your class' makeup. If you're heavy on melee, go for the caster. If you're heavy on casting, go for the hammer-wielding minotaur-orc... thing. If you're good on both, I'll let someone else answer.

There is never any reason to play a half-orc, except for "no one understands me" broodiness. Both humans and full orcs are better choices. If you plan an orc and expect some daylight, then take the daylight adaptation feat or buy some shaders.

Drow have a nasty LA, and this template probably has even more LA, this unsuitable for a caster.

06-29-07, 02:38 AM With Shackled City, you want to optimize for survivability - anything fragile and you're dead because of the tough boss encounters (or at least, this is what I've heard). Don't take anything with a level adjustment - you need the HP. Crusader would be the very best class, I think. Especially with Stone Power to turn his delayed damage pool into Pseudo-DR, and healing to keep the rest of the party topped off.

06-29-07, 08:13 AM Yeah, neither of your ideas really work for this campaign, it's hardcore. You should look into the Crusader class. It too, is hardcore.
