Hey all....

I'm jumping back into the D&D scene after a VERY lengthy abscence <8-9 years> and so many things have changed that I haven't any idea where to start. Here's my dilema....

I'm going to begin playtesting an ALL EVIL campaign for "Lichhaven Games" set in the Forgotten Realms and what I'm leaning towards for a character is very similar to the "Incredible Hulk" from the Marvel Comics. Our characters will begin at 2nd level but if my character is going to be such a tank, then I am willing to accept some penalties to start at either level 1 or 0 and go with it.

I tentatively have a Halfgiant/Psychic Warrior and a Thri-Kreen/Exotic Weapons Master but I am willing to drop these altogether if someone can come up with something better which I'm sure you can

As far as a prestige classes and feats/skills, I am totally clueless as to what I should take.....Basically my character is all about "breaking toys", "dominating foes" and pure power.

Could you guys/gals help me out and whip up a character that would fit the information I've provided??

MANY thank you's and praises for any/all assistance you may give me.

try something really different you might go with a Half-Giant Good Incarnate (from Magic of Incarnum)... you can boost your AC to ridiculous heights and use the flame mantle to torch everything in the vicinity...

A goliath Barbarian could be pretty awesome also

Human fighter.

If you are getting into the game again, after 8 years, playing the freakshow characters from the get go, might not be a good idea

If I were playing in an all-evil game I would get with the DM and set up some kind of under cover good-guy type. You know, like a cross between that guy in Resevoir Dogs and a character from Sin City.

Play a human something or other. Fighter is a good suggestion.

Human fighter2/psionic warrior2/x-

That would give you an excellent number of feats (6, or 8 if you are using Unearthed Arcana). On top of that, you get out of fighter level three. As was eloquently stated by Thog, "Fighter level three stupid!"

You could make an excellent archer.

I totally agree. I would never allow monstrous PCs in my game (expecially size wise) so I'd start small.

Also, jot down your guy's personality and backround well, dont be like one of my players and write "Bob is tall, he is good. Bob doesn't remember his past because Bob has Alzhiemers." becuase they are lazy. I as a DM, love when people give great descriptions (physically and personality) on their PCs. The backrounds give me potentially good adventure hooks like finding a lost relative or whatever. As I say "Don't be afraid of the pencil, embrace it!"

If you want the Incredible Hulk style, barbarian is pretty much ready made for you. Fast, strong, and they get to fly into a near-unstoppable rage every so often.

I believe there's also a prestige class that flies into rages in combat, taking on enemies first but then turning on any friends in the vicinity. While it can be a nuisance, it fits Hulk-style very well. It's also very powerful, from what I remember. Hulk strongest one there is.

edit>> It's the Frenzied Berserker. Why was I blanking on that?

thanks for the ideas....I've actually been playing on and off over those years but never really consistent. I am familiar with alot of the races but there are so many new classes that it's very difficult to choose from. I'm trying to veer away from being a straight fighter or barbarian as they are kind of vanilla to me.

That's why I am here....to see if anyone can come up with something different and unique but at the same time brutal and intimidating :)

anyone else have any feedback or ideas?

Incidently, I came across there builds which are pretty close to what I'm thinking.

Level adjustment kills. Stick to the base races.

If you're not already familiar with it, there's links to the System Reference Document (the SRD) in my sig that has everything from the PHB, DMG, Monster Manual, and Expanded Psionics Handbook except for the pictures and flavor text (and the word "Zuoken" for some reason).

It you really want to be a hulk I'd say you go something like Barbarian7/Bear warrior... You can transform into a bear in a rage.. and you get like +8 to strength at first level of bear warrior.. by level 10 bear warrior your getting like +20 strength... now thats one hell of a Hulk if you ask me..

As for feats.. Take like improved sunder, bull rush, destructive rage, extra rage or extend rage, Combat brute, shock trooper...

You'll be out of controll breaking stuff with a +28 to your strength bonus due to black bear form and destructive rage... sounds fun to me :P

Try Frenzied Berzerker, they are VERY much like the Hulk in that once they get going it's hard to make them stop....literally....you have to make a will save when you run out of enemies to kill. If you pass your frenzy ends normally, if you fail, you attack your party members. Could be interesting in an evil game :evillaugh. I would say play an Ogre as your race, but starting at 2nd level that won't be possible (can't remember the LA on Ogres). Anyway, that's just one idea, but if you do play a Frenzied Berzerker, make sure your party knows about your inability to controll yourself if you fail a will save, and make sure they have some sort of backup plan when you eventually do go crazy.

A Half-giant Barbie, straight up. I don't know what the LA is, but if it's only 1, then that's the way I would go. Barring that option, Human Fighter or Barbarian would be good times as well.

Human Fighter is good because at 2nd level, you already have 4 Feats - you just can't understimate that.
Weapon Focus
Power Attack
Cleave
Imp Bull Rush
Get yerself a Great Sword, and the 2-hand PA commence.

Human Barbie - name him Ken, make sure he is an uncouth womanizer and yer golden. That extra feat still help out because you can still start the game with Power Attack and Weapon Focus. There is a Great Sword out there with your name on it. Grab it, and go kill things in a PA-induced rage.

If you are starting at second level..... then you can't take all of those alternate races being suggested.... and you are a long way from Prestige Classes, too.

I suggest a half-orc Barbarian. He's ALREADY GREEN! He can rage. He gets a Str bonus to start, but has no level adjustment. Then dual class later as a monk or fighter so you can get the unarmed combat fighting feats. You don't want to start Hulking out with rage while wearing armor..... and busting good armor up... Spend you money on Potions of Bull Str. Take improved Grapple.... and Mantis Leap (for the jumping/bouncing thing Hulk does)
Put your skill points in Tumble and jump...

It could be a really fun character if you stick with it.

lets break down the incredible hulk the hulk is big strong and dumb.
obvious class barbarian because of brute force ability to increase sheir brute strength at will and they r as dumb as a pile of bricks. so i would say a half orc barbarianwould best suite the hulk

A Feral Goliath is pretty Hulk-like. Sure, it has +2 LA, but you're getting pretty good benefits - I'd say it's worth it.

As for class, well a Barbarian/Frenzied Berkserker just screams "Hulk!" - and if it's an evil campaign the FB's habit of killing it's allies shouldn't be as disruptive as usual.

Also - an interesting idea, if you want to play evil that works better as a team, is to be a Barbarian/Frenzied Berserker/Thayan Knight, and have one of the other players be a Red Wizard. Thayan Knights automatically fail their saves against any spells cast by Red Wizards, so when you start killing team-mates in your frenzy, the Red Wizard can simply mind-control you and stop it.

once again, thank you for the feedback and suggestions.

I'm not looking to actually BE the Hulk...just more or less have his size and strength to a degree.....mostly the strength. I've done Barbarians and Bezerkers before but what I was looking for was something different, hence a thri-kreen weapons master with dual flails or crossbows, a Dragon Disciple, etc.......something along that line.

There are just so many new races, classes and skills/feats that it makes my head spin....thats why I came here...to see if one of you "pros" could maybe whip together something unique and formidable....something you'd see on the open field and think "Oh crap........"

does that help?

There isn't many +1LA or +0LA races out there that will give you that kind of feel. I think Half-Ogre, if it fits those criteria, might be your best bet. Large size is pretty much an "oh crap!" thing for the wimpy level 1 warriors running around.

If I were to make a hulk-like character, I'd go with a Monk. I've never seen Hulk using weapons, but more his fists

On top of that, you get out of fighter level three. As was eloquently stated by Thog, "Fighter level three stupid!"
.

Hey, some of my best friends are level three fghters!

Back on topic, if you're going to play Hulk, go for a Barbarian. If there's point buy, put your stats in STR, CON, and DEX, and whatever you have left for WIS.

The same can be used to play as the Ultimate Warrior, except Warrior doesn't even have a 3 in his WIS stat.
