Hello, new to the forums as well as to D&D, I started up roughly ~3 weeks ago :P any ways. I'm looking for a character that hits extrmley hard but has to take a round to rest, reload, meditate before he/she strikes again Can you tell me if there is a class/weapon that does this is so can you recomend me the book where I could find this. I love burst damage XD I'm mainly looking for a ranger or something of that nature I'm into sniping a lot so that is mainly why I look for that.

Thank you,

Lord0chaos

ohh yeah, I'm starting a campaign with frineds lvl 10 with gunpowder

If you started 3 weeks ago, I suggest staying with the character you're already playing. Switching characters every month will drive your DM nuts.

I'd suggest either a heavy crossbow or one of those pistols from DMG(they have renaissance era guns).

Expanded psionics handbook, psionic shot and greater psionic shot.

Both require you to expend a focus, and to get that focus, you must spend up to a round in 'meditation' of sorts.

Pretty much what you're looking for exactly. Also, you can get similar feats for unarmed, and melee combat if you wish.

Enjoy.

I prefer reclining chairs, but there is something almost sensual about polished wooden chairs.
Also, can you be specific about what kind of chair you wanted? A single chair, or love seats? Or did you want an office chair?

Y'know, I was gonna use that joke too, you realize that?

Then I saw the chance to dip in psionics into a non-psionic section of the boards. *Evilish glee kind of noise.* Oooh, I'm devious.

Yes, thank you for bringing the video-game-wannabe-system to the discussion. Everyone appreciates how we can go from looking for a Ranger to a psion...you have done the world a favor...no really you have...and don't let anyone tell you different:ahem:

Well, he wants a character that hits hard, then needs to 'recharge' for a bit. Psionic feats.

He wants a character that can snipe. Psionic feats.

You can be a ranger and still use the feats to augment your abilities.

Thank you for letting your arrogance prevent you from recognising a decent and viable idea when you see it.

Also, thank you... No, I'm done. I made my point, there's no need for me to get overly snippy.

Just because you don't like psionics means that it's bad. And there's no need to get rude. Just state your opinion and be done with it.

A little civility goes a long way... And on these boards, we only have a little, so it has to go longer than it usually does.

Psionics, as a system, is how I think arcane magic should function. I think they did a good job with it mechanically, but thematically I find psionics unappealing.

Civility, yes, thank you.

You don't have to like it, I'd never force that on anyone.

Honestly, I use the psionic feats way more than I use the casting aspects of it. Since anyone can take advantage of the feats, unless you're starved for them, it can make any build better.

Leap attack with deep impact anyone?

You need a psionic character to do this. You can get it with just Wild Talent (or a psionic race) and a normal character class like fighter or monk. There are three feat trees that then allow you to expend your psionic focus on delivering an attack with either massive damage or against a reduced AC - for unarmed attacks it is Psionic Fist (+2d6 damage), Unavoidable Attack (no bonus damage but touch AC) and Greater Psionic Fist (+4d6 damage). The feat trees for armed attacks and ranged attacks progress similarly. There is another feat for regaining your psionic focus with a move action rather than a full-round action as well.

Full details should be in the SRD and Expanded Psionic Handbook
