| Bluewings04-04-06, 11:47 PM | One of the DM i know is starting a new campaign in faerun and he allowed me taking the Shadowcaster class from the Tome of magic. We start at 3rd level and i'm aiming at the Noctumancer PrC for Backstory reason however I cant decide wich of Wizard or Sorcerer I want And I really tought about a Warlock but I'm not sure he qualifies for the prestige class. Wich of three class would benefit a Power-hungry follower of Shar? There is another player who is going for the Shadowsmith PrC how do I avoid overlapping the poor guy's role? :P . I ask that because I am cut off from all my book for a week and i need this character done for in two day |

I ask that because I am cut off from all my book for a week and i need this character done for in two day I think it's six of one, half a dozen of another. If you take sorcerer, you'd have to wait an extra level before getting into Noctumancer, but you'd be able to focus on Charisma rather than Intelligence. Charisma improves the DCs of a Shadowcaster (and a Noctumancer power or two as well). Intelligence merely gives you access to higher level mysteries (which is important, but you won't need better than a 19 ever). In the end, it's not hard to get an Intelligence of 19 (even as a secondary stat), but always a pain to try to boost DCs, expecially at higher levels. On the downside, the sorcerer's extra spells per day probably won't be needed by you given that you'll have so many mysteries and spells no matter which way you go. Wizard will also give you access to a far wider array of spells, making you more versatile as well as get you into the PrC faster. Take wizard though, and you'll need to keep both Intelligence high to boost arcane DC's and Charisma to boost mystery/noctumancer DCs. So taking sorcerer makes it easier to boost DCs, but wizard saves you a level and gives you a broader spell selection and the Scribe Scroll feat. One thing a 20th level shadowcaster 3/wizard 7/noctumancer 10 will have access to 9th level spells (or alternately a shadowcaster 7/wizard 3/noctumancer 10 will have 9th level mysteries). If you take Sorcerer, you won't be able to get 9th-level powers in 20 levels. (Worrying about what will happen at 20th level, though, is akin to worrying about how to spend the money once you hot the lottery). Also, warlocks do not cast spells, and certainly not 2nd level arcane spells, so don't qualify for Noctumancer without a houserule. |
