| Sir_Bwalls03-31-07, 01:30 AM | Alright so here's how it went. My party and I were on a mission to retrieve an item that was lodged in the roof of the mouth of the Tarrasque. I was a 20th lvl Druid. When we found the Tarrasque I had a brilliant idea. I spent 3 of my 9th level spells to summon some Triceratops from the summon natures ally 7 list. After rolling i wound up with 12 of them. I then cast the following spells to beef them up. Animal Growth, and Mass Bull's Str I also had the Augment Summoning feat which over all beefed them up as so: +16 str (8 A.G., 4 B.S., 4 A.S.) +8 con (+4 A.G., +4 A.S.) Increased Size = increased natural attack damage -2 Dex (A.G.) So each one wound up with a +27 to hit (29 on a charge) and did 3d8+27 damage or 6d8+31 damage with their powerful charge attack. In essence I was able to surround the Tarrasque with my own dino army and let my babies go to work. In the first round with all of them getting a charge 2 missed but the rest did a total of 538 damage!! Needless to say my DM was very upset. |
| graddlin03-31-07, 01:35 AM | NICE. Keep that up and you will be on your way to god-hood in three hours. Take care, friend. |
| TheDarkLord03-31-07, 01:41 AM | What? Defeated? How? I don't see any mention of Wish or Miracle up there. Why didn't the Terrasque swallow some of them dino's? Hell, why didn't he use a series of Tramples? |
| RorixBladewing03-31-07, 01:47 AM | Yeah, you and half the CharOp boards. |

Bull's Strength doesn't stack with Augmented Summoning. Both provide a enhancement bonus. Though I do have a question. Did you kill the Tarrasque after you knocked it out. |
| TheChilliGod03-31-07, 04:28 AM | Excellent, well done for starters. Now do Hecatoncheires (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters/abomination.htm#hecatoncheires). |
| Bedevere03-31-07, 06:22 AM | Easy. My DM had allowed me to research a spell that permitted the caster to burn off xp (i forget how much) to gain a massive bonus to the roll to beat spell resistance. This left my character needing only a 2+ or so, to beat the hecatonchieres' spell resistance. Somehow, I didnt roll a 1. Once past their incredible SR, their saves suck, and they have very few immunities of note. One save or die spell later, that it didnt roll a 20 on, and I've killed the god killer. :) |

In the first round with all of them getting a charge 2 missed but the rest did a total of 538 damage!! Needless to say my DM was very upset. The tarrasque can be slain only by raising its nonlethal damage total to its full normal hit points +10 (or 868 hit points) and using a wish or miracle spell to keep it dead. Did the DM take into consideration the DR 15/Epic? (That knocks off 150 points of damage if 10 of the dino's hit). Swallow Whole (Ex) The tarrasque can try to swallow a grabbed opponent of Huge or smaller size by making a successful grapple check. Once inside, the opponent takes 2d8+8 points of crushing damage plus 2d8+6 points of acid damage per round from the tarrasque’s digestive juices. A swallowed creature can cut its way out by dealing 50 points of damage to the tarrasque’s digestive tract (AC 25). Once the creature exits, muscular action closes the hole; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. The tarrasque’s gullet can hold 2 Huge, 8 Large, 32 Medium, 128 Small, or 512 Tiny or smaller creatures. Mmmmm, Dino snacks! I don't doubt you single handily killed the Trassque in the game you played. However, if the Tarrasque was run properly, it is not possible. (At least using the setup you explained.) |
| Comus03-31-07, 10:35 AM | I was a 20th lvl Druid. A 20th level Druid beating the Tarrasque is like Mike Tyson beating Stephen Hawking. |
| BowenSilverclaw198603-31-07, 11:12 AM | That made me roll out of my chair        |
| Bob Loblaw03-31-07, 12:03 PM | So each one wound up with a +27 to hit (29 on a charge) and did 3d8+27 damage or 6d8+31 damage with their powerful charge attack. In essence I was able to surround the Tarrasque with my own dino army and let my babies go to work. In the first round with all of them getting a charge 2 missed but the rest did a total of 538 damage!! I'm missing something here. 6*8+31-15=64. 64*12=768. Tarrasque has 858 hit points, so you are still 90 points shy assuming that all 12 hit for maximum damage. However, since you only did 538, that's not going to cut it as he still has 300 hit points and now he's going to get back 40 each round. Now that they can't charge anymore since they are so close, their damage potential is greatly reduced. Don't forget to account for the -2 to hit for being shaken. This will give the dinos a 50% chance of hitting. Figuring average damage for each, your dinos will deal just under 76 points of damage each round, combined. Not going to be near enough. They will be easily dispatched at this point. Even if you do manage to put the beast at -10, he's back on the next round since you don't have any means of wishing him dead. Druids don't have access to Miracle. |
| Tempest Stormwind03-31-07, 12:39 PM | Excellent, well done for starters. Now do Hecatoncheires (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters/abomination.htm#hecatoncheires). Too easy. (http://boards1.wizards.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-626146) (See post 24, the Chrono-Legionaire.) As for the OP, It looks like you didn't take into account his regeneration or DR, not to mention your DM was playing it like a punching bag. The tarrasque is freaking *easy* to solo -- anyone who can fly can do it, but for style, all you need to do is planeshift him (I prefer the Positive Energy Plane, simply beause "Death By Awesome" is the Best. Epitaph. Evar.) -- but it's significantly easier to avoid using the beatstick approach. |
| Aegeu03-31-07, 01:01 PM | A 20th level Druid beating the Tarrasque is like Mike Tyson beating Stephen Hawking. Another one for the sig! Yahoo! |
| Roivas03-31-07, 03:45 PM | There are other ways of beating Mr. T without wish or miracle. One could throw it into the ocean after bringing it's nonlethal damage total to 69,485, letting the crushing damage finish off the beast. Or you could throw the monster into the sun, or the abyss either way it isn't dead but it is defeated. Also the Tarrasque couldn't eat colossal creatures which the dinosaurs would be with animal growth. They wouldn't last very long in sustained melee, but the druid is still there to drop meteors on the tarrasque or slap it around with any other druid attack spells. The 500+ damage was just the opening attack, giving the druid another step up on our poor little city eater. But still the tarrasque being killed by a spell caster single handedly isn't that impressive, I'd prefer to see a melee machine take the beast down alone. Magic against a creature with an Int of 3 doesn't prove much, but beating this monster at it's own game would surely be a feat to be remembered. |

Try taking on a god or something, then, if you up to the third or forth level of optimization. :pbbbtt: |
| feartheinvinceblehamster03-31-07, 04:44 PM | Yeah. I've done that too. I think it's a powergamer rite of passage! |
| Sir_Bwalls03-31-07, 05:05 PM | Just so you guys know with Animal growth they are too big to be swallowed by the Tarrasque, and in the particular campaign I was playing in when this happened the goal was not to kill the Tarrasque, but to retrieve an item it had lodged in its body which we did after it was knocked out, then the party wizard sent it to something like the 117th layer of the abyss. And looking back on it now it was not that impressive given that I was 20th level, however, it is fun to say that I did indeed single handedly defeat the Tarrasque. |
| Whisper_Swiftblade03-31-07, 05:10 PM | Big T is not all that tough, take down Pun-pun if you really want to brag:) |
| Maekrix_Waere03-31-07, 06:42 PM | I'd prefer to see a melee machine take the beast down alone. Give me an ECL. |
| graddlin03-31-07, 06:52 PM | A 20th level Druid beating the Tarrasque is like Mike Tyson beating Stephen Hawking. NICE! |
| Maraxus03-31-07, 08:39 PM | Hm, Combat reflexes (threatens while flat-footed) and: Tarrasque Frightful Presence DC: 36. Triceratops will save: +6 If your DM had wanted, the Tricerati would had just turned in place as they close in and suddenly 4 of them get eaten. |
| Ace_of_time04-01-07, 12:27 AM | There is no way he could have done this druids don't access to the miracle spell. Animal Growth would have only worked on ten of them. So he would have to cast it twice. So this thing stand around for six rounds and let the druid cast 3- 9th level spells 2- animal growths, and mas bulls str. If you believe that then I can beat a Titan with my 20 level awaken hawk fighter. |
| plasword04-01-07, 08:15 PM | As sooooo many have already told ya, it takes a wish + mega hugenormous damage to tha beastie B4 U kill him. Other than that yer DM was handing you the big T on a platter or yer full of :censored: :censored: bull:censored: |
| feartheinvinceblehamster04-01-07, 10:21 PM | Excellent, well done for starters. Now do Hecatoncheires (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters/abomination.htm#hecatoncheires). Not to be a nitpick, but that should be "A" hecantoires. Not Hecantoires. There's more than one Hecantoires, judging by the ELH entry on them. |
| Voran04-02-07, 01:13 AM | This one time, I came up with a spell, that let me call in a condensed blast powered by all the complaints from after the Prequel starwars movies. And it totally pwnd the Tarrasque. I was only like level 6. |
| TheDarkLord04-02-07, 01:30 AM | Nah man that aint how ya do it. See, I called up this guy I know named Pazuzu. Next thing ya' know, I was raising Terrasque's for steak dinners at night. I'm gettin' like, $2.33 per pound at my local meat shop. I've even got a new slogan goin' on; "Terrasque, the new Beef". |
| Tempest Stormwind04-02-07, 01:52 AM | This one time, I came up with a spell, that let me call in a condensed blast powered by all the complaints from after the Prequel starwars movies. And it totally pwnd the Tarrasque. I was only like level 6. Gotcha beat. In my last epic game, I developed a spell that quite literally consumed the entire material plane, Tarrasque included, no questions asked. It could have actually worked on Pun-Pun, provided it entered his space (which it wouldn't have, realistically, but had it, it would have emerged victorious). Its name still sends trembles down my colleagues' spines when I mention it: ... Create Katamari. ... I'm serious. |
| Yokomohoyo04-02-07, 02:09 AM | "Terrasque, the new Beef". More like "Terrasque, thats for dinner." |
| TheDarkLord04-02-07, 02:12 AM | More like "Terrasque, thats for dinner." That works :D. |
| Yokomohoyo04-02-07, 02:18 AM | lol Or " Terrasque, the new white meat." |
| Ace_of_time04-02-07, 02:35 AM | That's something to look forward to for Easter diner and a side of deviled Roc eggs. |
| TheDarkLord04-02-07, 02:46 AM | lol Or " Terrasque, the new white meat." Use the leprechan and say something like " It's Magic Resistant Deliciousness" :D. |

| Voran04-02-07, 03:54 AM | That's something to look forward to for Easter diner and a side of deviled Roc eggs. My god, the omlettes. You'd need like 50 pigs just to have enough bacon. |
| Puritan1304-02-07, 04:08 AM | One time as a DM, I had the players discover a tarrasque nest full of tarrasque eggs. I like foolin around with canon sometimes. Sue me. |
| _Jayne_Cobb_04-02-07, 09:44 AM | I killed the Tarrasue once using only melee attacks, but it was a bit of an odd scenario. It was in the PC game Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager. An odd bug occurred at some point in the game that gave my Thri Kreen Ranger something like 30+ attacks per round. The last fight in the game is against Big-T himself (the titular "ravager"). My TKR took him down in a single round. |
| Silverthumb12804-02-07, 10:03 AM | I spent 3 of my 9th level spells to summon some Triceratops from the summon natures ally 7 list. Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up: How is using Summoned Creatures "single-handed?" :D |
| Tonio04-02-07, 11:20 AM | Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up: How is using Summoned Creatures "single-handed?" :D :P Same way using "forged weapons" or "evoked forces" is "single-handed". :P |
| Ace_of_time04-02-07, 11:22 AM | Because it's only him srand there face the monster for 6 round while the tarrasque just stand there and watch these little bits snacks pop out of thin air. maybe tarrasque liked dino gummies! ha ha ha |
| ravenshrike04-02-07, 04:18 PM | There is no way he could have done this druids don't access to the miracle spell. Animal Growth would have only worked on ten of them. If you believe that then I can beat a Titan with my 20 level awaken hawk fighter. The tarrasque has a move speed of 20 ft. It does not have run. They only would have had to be 320 ft. away from the time they cast the summon monster, and that assumes the tarrasque attacks them immediately, which it won't unless it's not eating anything else. |
| Praedoran04-02-07, 04:46 PM | The Tarrasque has the Ex Ability Rush. As well as Combat Reflexes, Frightful Presence, and Damage Reduction. Vs. the Dinos, it should have seen them easily, used rush to close the distance (it can charge a full 300 ft. using this ability). The Dino's would not be eaten as they would become Gargantuan from Animal Growth. However, they would only be attacking at a +22 (You forgot to factor size and they would all be shaken from the Tarrasque's Fear) Then, it's second attack would trigger another Frightful Presence and all your Dino's would be sent running away in Fear. If it Power Attacks for full (+48 Damage to all its attacks), it would no doubt slay your AC 15 Dino's in no time flat. Your DM let you have that victory. You did not slay a real Tarrasque. |
| Ace_of_time04-02-07, 08:50 PM | The tarrasque has a move speed of 20 ft. It does not have run. They only would have had to be 320 ft. away from the time they cast the summon monster, and that assumes the tarrasque attacks them immediately, which it won't unless it's not eating anything else. Once per min a tarrasque can move at a speed of 150'. that's 300' at double move. So at that speed he charge the first round with bite. Listen & spot is +17 so it is safe to say he is ether going to hear or see them before 6 rounds. With a + 57 on bite more than likely he will hit. I guess he could still cast spells in his tummy. |

I want to see the luckiest 1st level fighter ever: the one that beat a Tarrasque in 1 hit. Then got eaten 2 rounds later while gloating... |
