| jnormandin12-17-04, 02:19 PM | Ah... what I wouldn't do to be twelve years old again. |
| Roanth12-17-04, 02:29 PM | Does this win an award for biggest troll of the year? I rarely post yet there is no way I could pass this one up. 10 person party? Is the wacky ECL 20 Lich complaining about you too? If he is he has only himself to blame. No reason he shouldn't in the vanguard with you, scything through monsters in this insanely dysfunctional campaign. EDIT: Missed the party where the Lich is NPC and is only one not complaining. Tell me, is there a reason why you and this 11-year old DM feel the need to subject 8 innocent bystanders to your private gaming session? |
| kensukusangi12-17-04, 02:31 PM | get a lobotomy Sad thing is, I think he already did get one. |
| HidroliX12-17-04, 02:36 PM | Sad thing is, I think he already did get one. i did but it dit not work! and a bigger party is more fun and the people who cant respond mature... just dont say anything then :P |
| Arbitrary Aardvark12-17-04, 03:51 PM | Well what can i say! My character is far and far more powerfull than anyone else in the party!!any1 got an good idea to make me less more powerfull? Yeah, bust you down in levels. A werewolf is a 3HD creature with a Level Adjustment of 3. That makes for an ECL of 6. Add to your 8 class levels and you are effectively a 14th level character. Having 3-4 more class levels (alone) than many of the other characters makes you too powerful. In addition, you get great stat bonuses from being a werewolf, damage resistance, racial hit dice etc. You are effectively twice to three times the level of the other party members. |
| HidroliX12-17-04, 04:11 PM | I might forgotten to tell you guys I did not created my character this way!! I started level 1.... i just survived longer then the rest.. so dont get with... you are stupid and a egoistig little man... |
| Thorak12-17-04, 04:40 PM | I see at least two Evil characters, one of which is undead. You do realize that the Paladin isn't a Paladin any more, right? You can't associate with evil creatures as a Paladin. Period. Even if they're in the party. Either they leave, or the Paladin does. Not to mention; a reasonable DM tries his best to keep levels roughly even in his party. If you've been around a bit longer, you should perhaps be 1-2 levels higher than the average. I see your class levels as 3-4 levels higher. And that's without considering the fact that you're a Werewolf, meaning that even if you're Afflicted because of a bite, rather than natural, you've got 2 racial hit dice and a +2 level adjustment on top of your Psion levels. In other words, when your character level is 12-13, and the rest of the party averages less than half that, of course you'll be so grossly powerful that they'll complain. Frankly, your DM is an idiot. Even if I only suspected that, it was made absolutely crystal clear when his response to your character being too powerful was, apparently, thinking about deliberately killing your character. The reason this makes him an idiot is because he is the one controlling A> experience awards, and B> other stuff, like your lycanthropy (if it's acquired). Killing your character for using what he's given you is the equivalent of putting a loaf of bread in front of a starving person, and then shooting them when they take it. In other words, ridiculously stupid. Or sickeningly twisted, but I'm giving him the moral benefit of the doubt. |
| eRaz0r12-17-04, 04:53 PM | The usual post we get like this goes like this : "WAaahhh ! ! ! Some other player/NPC is overshadowing me - what can I do ? " The difference here is that you are in the unique position of being the one doing the overshadowing. Have you considered playing down your abilities on purpose ? Instead of trouncing the bad guys with your werewolf/psion abilities, drop back and support the other PCs with some sort of buffing powers. Or turn into a werewolf at inopportune moments and run around baying at the moon instead of fighting (except to defend yourself). Play it up. You could voluntarily not advance in levels, holding on to your experience until you reach 1 short of the XP needed to advance two levels. You will not get any more XP until you take those levels. It's a stupid rule, but it's one you can use to your advantage if you're truly sincere about not being the most powerful in the group. Of course, every one of your posts sounds just like a little boy backhandedly boasting about his uberness. "Oh no! I'm so powerful, and I really don't know why! Isn't that quaint?" If so, please remember this is a game, and the bullies at school can still kick your behind no matter what level your character is. ;) My advice : tone down your uberness - you're in control of your character, and if you simply must play your werewolf/psion to the limit of his uber abilities, don't complain when others take it poorly. The only thing worse than a sore loser is a sore winner. |
| Arbitrary Aardvark12-21-04, 04:51 PM | I might forgotten to tell you guys I did not created my character this way!! I started level 1.... i just survived longer then the rest.. so dont get with... you are stupid and a egoistig little man... Note: I assume you are playing 3.5 OK, so its still your GMs fault. Why? 1. If you started at 1st level, then you must have become a lycanthrope during play. This is equivelent to gaining six levels. At the very least, you should have required a massive number of experience points, earned at your appropriately adjusted level, to go up. For example, suppose you became a lycanthrope at 3rd level, and you had 4000 xp (and thus needed 6000 to get to 4th level.) Now, with the ECL, you are a 8th level character. You will need 45,000 xp to gain another level and become 10th level. (Which comes to 4 levels of egotist, or whatever the psionic class is, three bonus racial hit dice, and a +3 Level adjustment.) I suspect that your DM just ignored the level adjustment and racial hit dice. 2. Until you gain a level, you will gain experience points as a 9th level character. This means that your other party members, who are probably 2nd - 4th level, will be getting much more experience than you are. (I don't have my DMG with me, but if I remember correctly, if you were to fight a CR7 monster, for example, they would get about three or four times as much experience as you would.) So, the other characters should catch up, and relatively quickly. (Having done an analysis in a similar case, they probably should have caught up to only a level or two lower than you by the time you gained two levels.) 3. Was your DM making new characters start at level 1? Even so, they should have caught up much more quickly, unless there was a near total party kill recently. It just isn't fun for other players to have one character so much better than the others. 4. Technically, the ECL for an afflicted werecreature is one less than for a natural one, but if you had some form of magic, item, blessing etc. which removed the affliction part of lycanthropy then the ECL would be the same as natural. If not, why the heck are the other characters hanging out with a creature that, three nights a month, will try to eat them. [Let me know if I am correct that your DM didn't take the ECL for werewolf into account.] If the game is 3.0, then the other players are pretty hosed due to the even division of experience points, but a good GM should figure something out. It just isn't any fun to start off five levels behind the party lead, and never get any closer than three. |

| Kainy12-21-04, 06:18 PM | You're doing a terrible job "trying not to be the most powerful." You should let the lowbies do their thing against challenges that are obviously their level. If they come crying because the enemies are too hard, they're losing their right to complain when you use your abilities to their fullest potential. Your DM is an idiot for having an ECL 14 character in a party populated mostly by level 4 characters, and not taking appropriate measures to take you out of commission for combats that are supposed to be difficult but survivable. Kyy'Dakh, I think you'd love the various "Mr. Period" comic strips from Penny Arcade. |

| Darth Doom12-21-04, 10:28 PM | I had a level 7 Barbarian, Level 6 Frenzied Bezerker Weretiger that could control her shape. Her physical destructive power was hard to believe, but then again, it wasnt meant to be a serious game. But in your case, with the rest of the group that low of a level, yes it is. |
| Aeromus12-22-04, 12:29 PM | I am revoking your rights to ever play anything not in the PHB again. I wish all you munchin, retard, power gaming punks would just die, and help to lift the immaturity haze from around those of us playing correctly. No it makes you an idiot. |
| CJDragon12-22-04, 12:49 PM | ok, the big problem seems to be the whole werewolf thing. Easy answer is get your character to heal himself of it, or for added storyline your character could be kidnapped and healed by a local temple or paladin etc. Or the fact that your paladin is now an ex-paladin, maybe he could quest to heal you to re-instate his abilities.... involves more party members, fixes your DM's mistakes and helps out a fellow player.... voila everyones heppy (well happier...) Maybe your character doesn't have control of his ability to transform, so the dm can make you change at the worst possible times... DM: You enter the temple of goodness and healing You: Ok, I'll go and ask form healing DM: Ok, instead u turn into a phsycotic killing machine.... This'll give u a reputation so it'll be practically impossible to enter civilised areas, or more likely you'll be hunted down by clerics, paladins, were-hating rangers, druids etc... |

| evangelion101012-23-04, 12:26 AM | This is the generation of kids that turn in English papers with u, w/, 2, LoL, and every other online abreviation. Then wonder why you fail. "Me fail English? That's unpossible" You'd be amazed what making the effort to change 1 to one or u to you can do. Heck, you can even type it into MS Word, then use find and replace.... Now, tell your DM to take everyone's character sheet that is above ECL 5, and burn it. Unceremonously, if possible. Then have your DM sit down and read the DMG, particularly the part that talks about ECL. Then have him ban everything but the core rulebooks. Especially psionics. (No knock as to balance, but this DM would be in over his head if there were only 4 classes). Have him reduce party size to half its current size. Get rid of evil characters. Period. Perhaps after he has several years of experiance and has good roleplayers, he can toy around with the idea of the evil character in a good campaign. Also, tell him to stop throwing in every single monster/template that is 'kewl' and 'wicked sweet' that he saw in some movie recently. Your party sounds like some poor Underworld knock-off. Either that, or you can all just skip rolling dice and say what your character does, in bullet time effects, then start arguing over who's character is most 'kewl'. Then after you can't settle that dispute, you can have a war with imanginary guns. |
| On_the_wings_of_TPK12-23-04, 12:38 AM | Damn. The only thing missing from this thread is EatFlan. Where is the guy when you need him? |
| IceFractal02-18-05, 03:32 AM | C'mon, its not a crime to be high level. Forget about the werewolf part, because a lot of people have adverse reactions to templates, and the psion part, because some people can't stand psionics. Just image that he's a Sorcerer 8/Barbarian 4 in a party of level 4-5 characters. Now while he is far, far, more powerful than the rest of the party, it's completely possible that he got there naturally, if the game is run in such a way that people whose characters are finished (beyond ressurection or unwilling to) restart at level 1. Being higher level than the rest of the party does not make you a munchkin! What are you supposed to do if you keep surviving while everyone else dies - "forget" to collect XP? Take a "vow of non-levelling"? And not using your character's abilities to the fullest only goes so far. For a behind the scenes manipulator its fine, but for a full out attacker it just seems stupid when you sit there not doing anything. That's not to say that there isn't a problem, however. Possible Solutions: *Somehow have the lycanthropy template removed, either voluntarily or by force. Now you're only a few levels higher than the rest. *Gain XP really, really, slowly. *Develop a multiple personality, the sides of which are in conflict with each-other, so some of your actions cancel each other out. |
| Ut-Napishtim02-18-05, 03:57 AM | "Me fail English? That's unpossible" OMFG, man. You entire post totally ruled! Okay, I think there's something of a communication problem here. If you haven't paid for the LA's for your Lycanthropy, then the best thing the DM can do is to remove it - and reinstating the Paladin (yes, he's screwed right now) would be an added benefit that can come from it if the Paladin does it for atonement. The xp part isn't an 'option' or 'possible solution' - it's the rules. As was expalined as soon as he was afflicted he should've noiticed a serious drop in xp gained, and a serious increase in what he needed. That's not really his fault though, as has been said his DM is an idiot. He doesn't need to develop 'muliple personalities' - he already has them. Any DM that gives an afflicted lycanthrope control of their abilities is an ass-hat. As has been said, he should turn three days out of the month, and lose control of his character when that happens. I'd have to agree with what was said earlier. You all need to burn your character sheets, have the DM read the rules, and then start over at first level with core races and classes - and preferably no more than six players. A lot of players may seem like fun, possibly because it allows the group to get away with this stuff, but I've been DMing for at least 15 years easy and I don't take on more than six players no matter how much Jim Bob might want his buddy Cletus from work to join in on it. EDIT: As an aside, some folks have problems with templates and optional classes - but I don't think that's the issue here. I think what folks are saying is that this DM obviously lacks the education and experience to use them in his game, and should stick to core stuff until he learns the rules. Templates and optional classes can be fun if the DM is capable of balancing them and applying the rules and restrictions along with the perks, but otherwise you end up with what we have here. |
| Second02-18-05, 08:57 AM | Wait a second, you're an afflicted werewolf and you're NOT chaotic evil? Now it's been a while since I've dealt with lycanthope players but last time I checked the second you voluntarily change as an afflicted lycanthrope you AUTOMATICALLY take the default alignment of your were-persona. In the case of a werewolf, chaotic evil. Disregarding your DM's possible lack of experience, I recommend this: Volunteer your character to be an NPC under the DM's control as a BBEG and take the other evil PC's with you. Then roll new characters of the appropriate level. Perhaps another younger psion who trained under the same master as your old character who wishes to cure and redeem your old character. Another idea my be to split the party into two playing groups and get another DM, perhaps from the group itself, and run two games. If your group posseses but one competent DM (Assuming your current DM is such), perhaps it's time for someone to learn. The fact that you have an epic NPC (Level 16 + 5 Vampire ECL) screams pet DMPC, a clue that your DM may be inexperienced. A benefactor is one thing, but an NPC that actively participates with a party that it clearly overpowers is an amature DM mistake that takes away from the overall experience/fun of the PCs. |
| Aricandor02-18-05, 10:04 AM | This is fun. One has said the werewolf is +3 ECL. Another has said +5. He mentioned his DR was 10, thus he is natural lycan. He probably can't be though, since he started at level 1. Point is you're either ECL 12 or 13 in a party of ECL 4-5 characters. And what the hell are the vampires doing there? The NPC I can understand (perhaps story reasons), but the other? That an LA +8 template! Anyway, possible solutions (perhaps do them all): * - Have the lycanthropy cured. * - Start a new psion at level 4 or 5. Maybe 6 at most, in which case you can be a werewolf psion 1. * - And for gods sake, use magic-psionics transparancy. Unless the world is high-psionic not using it will cause major balance issues. * - Start a new game all of you, at level 1. * - Let the other characters level to the same ECL, and cry for your lost manifester levels. * - And try to use capitals and decent punctuation. No offense meant, but it will make your posts so much easier to read. |

| Thoronmir02-18-05, 04:14 PM | I’m in a very good mood today. I’m remodeling my condo and it looks like my contractor will finish ahead of schedule and under budget. :cheer: So, I’ll resist the temptation to pile on. I’ll even assume that English is not the OP’s native language. If it is, then he needs to do “more less” studying so he can write “gooder” than he has in this and his other post on exactly the same subject. In fact, I’m so ebullient right now that I’ll concede a Werewolf Psion is a good choice for a PC class. The concept itself is not flawed at all. However, the execution in this case … :shudder: What you seem to have is a group of players with different opinions about how they want to play D&D. Such stark differences usually lead to trouble in even the best situations. Unfortunately your situation is compounded by a DM who simply does not seem ready to swim in the deep end of the D&D pool. He sounds as if he still needs his water-wings. So, if you’re intent on playing this type of PC, you need to find a new DM … one with at least a fundamental understanding of the rules you’re trying to use. I’d also suggest that the players who prefer a basic approach to the game find themselves a new DM as well since the current DM doesn’t sound very well suited for that kind of game either. What the hell, why don’t all the players find new DMs? Finally, since I am in such a good mood, I’ll offer some valuable advice. There’s a little button at the bottom of the thread that says “Post Reply.” I assume you stumbled upon it after you created this thread, since you failed to just post the “information” in this thread in your other thread, which is still on the first page of the Board. There was no reason to start a new thread on this same topic. I hope that helps ... I try to be not the most critical. Who's Papa? You're kidding right? | Callista02-20-05, 10:15 PM | Take a vow of poverty... But you're neutral, so you don't get any of the benefits. Reasoning: I can perfect my powers much better if I'm not burdened with material possessions. That should balance things out. |
| deusxmachina02-21-05, 08:14 AM | any1 got an good idea to make me less more powerfull? Try playing a character that isn't ridiculously overpowered and who fits in with the group. DR10/silver, who are you kidding. My straight-up druid is bad enough. I have to hold back half the time so the other players can get some licks in. |
| Rellik Laires02-22-05, 12:13 AM | honestly i see no problem . the thing is your the highest level character in the party and thats why you deal so much damage and get DR 10/silver but the reason why they keep whinning is because there jealous they wish they can be dealling half a hundred damage a hit. honesty talk to them without the dm being there and tell them quite your "female dogging" i am keeping you mofo's alive you think you can defend your self against a cr 11 monster without me feel free . you kno the reason why your so powerful is because A. you either worked for it with your roleplaying and your battle scars or the dm handed to you on a silver platter. you have done nothing wrong and you must tell them that. i had the same problem a year or 2 ago we were playing this campaign for about 8 monthes the highest levle character was level 15 and the clossest to him was level 12 and the other 3 party member were 8 10 and 11. and the reason why the level 15 character was level 15 was because while the rest of the group was building a town he was off with mercenary's taking jobs for nobles. he ended up with the experiance and enough gold to build a large town. it was about 8 monthes downtime and while the rest of the party was putting together there money and paying workers and keeping close eyes on the land and buildings and working out a political plot for the land he was off working hard and making a small loot. it caused some in party diffrences saying he ditched the party but he explained that he did not like the whole idea of law (he was CN). well soon after they got back together to go on an adventure everyone had to put the good with the bad the lower level characters were earning more experiance and the Choatic character would be able to kill you in the first round.lol so honestly tell your party memebers to look at it through there charachters eyes if you see a powerful person traveling with you. they should be worried about how much damage he or she is doing but yet thankful to having them fight side by side with you. and the only thing the dm should do is throw harder creature at you so you have a chance but after awhile it gets ridiculous. we were a avg party level of 11.2 11 after rounding destroying a cr 17.but you see it was a well rounded party it was a dex fighter level 15 and a 12th level rouge and a level 11 wiz/some prestige class and a 10th and 8th level sorc so it was pretty fun |
| Ze_Mighty_Vegetable02-23-05, 12:17 AM | honestly i see no problem . the thing is your the highest level character in the party and thats why you deal so much damage and get DR 10/silver Nope. It's because he was given the werewolf template (a 6 level instant boost...). but the reason why they keep whinning is because there jealous they wish they can be dealling half a hundred damage a hit. honesty talk to them without the dm being there and tell them quite your "female dogging" i am keeping you mofo's alive you think you can defend your self against a cr 11 monster without me feel free . How would you react if the DM sent a DMPC a lot more powerfull than you to "help" you? He'd keep you alive against powerfull monsters, and all you'd have to do is take notes and bask in his glory. Nobody would like that. Each player want to feel usefull, to have his moment in the spotlight. Being constantly overshadowed make for a boring game. you kno the reason why your so powerful is because A. you either worked for it with your roleplaying and your battle scars or the dm handed to you on a silver platter. you have done nothing wrong and you must tell them that. i had the same problem a year or 2 ago Or C, he con...vinced his DM to give him the template. But even if he did nothing wrong, the other player's complaints are still valid. Saying it's not his fault doesn't change the fact that he's overpowered for his party. so honestly tell your party memebers to look at it through there charachters eyes if you see a powerful person traveling with you. And forget about play balance, basic fairness and fun. |
| AzzMan02-23-05, 02:24 AM | Ah... what I wouldn't do to be twelve years old again. I wouldn't do much, but then again I'm only 14. NP: Edge of Sanity - Crimson. |
