I've got a Fighter 2 / Battle Sorcerer 3 and I want an awsome mount to ride into battle with. This is a solo campaign. What should I do and how should I get one? I have a lot of freedom.

Unrelated: Should I use warmage instead of battle sorcerer?

So buy a mount. The Arms and Equipment Guide has lots of exotic mounts and rules for them.

Talk to the dm about it.

I don't want to just buy one and I don't have the Arms and Equipment Guide. I want it to be quest-style and I want to have to roll to get it or something.

Is there any special way to go about it? Also, what should I get? I mean a dragon would be cool but that is also pretty generic and pretty epic.

Would a giant scorpion or something be cool?

Yes, as I said talk to the DM about (ok, it's not that special but it will get results). Only the DM can create a quest for you. Explain want you want. I'm sure they will be accomodating.

Okay, so all I should do is say "Hey, I want a mount." And he'll be like, "Okay."

Then I just go find one or whatever and it is mine? There's no skill, feat, or level requirement?

Nope, you say "I would love to quest for a special mount of some kind. Can you create some adventures where the end result is I get some kind of mount? I'm thinking that I would love to ride a [insert creature here]. What do you rekon? Will I need to get any particular feats? "
A willing trained creature (like a horse) does not require you to have any skill - though putting some points into ride won't hurt.

unless you simply want to buy a feat to get the mount without the adventure attached to it.

Maybe you could get leadership feat for an intelligent mount that is your cohort? I think there is a feat in the drconomicon where you get a dragon mount....

Leadership feat + quest + DM approval = Intelligent Mounts made of win

Battle Sorcerer vs Warmage?
Are you only interested in blasting? Warmage.
Do you want to be able to fly, dispel, teleport, cast Save-or-Die spells,...? Battle Sorcerer.

Agreed. This is the only use of Leadership that I actually like.

The description in the DMG actually gives appropriately-leveled mounts (ie: griffon = level X cohort, etc), to give you and your DM an idea of how soon you should be allowed to have it.

Obviously, talk to the DM first, don't just take the feat and expect to get a quest and a mount.

Hope it helps! :D

I like Pegasi, Bulettes, Nightmares, and Remorhaz (if you can take a bit of heat).

See the wild cohort (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a) feat.

Also, if you happen to be a patriotic Aundairan, or have a loose DM, you could become a Knight Phantom (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20050706a&page=4). They can create improved phantom steeds, and lots of them. You have to wait to be a fighter 2/battle sorcerer 6, at the earliest, to do that, though.
