I want to add Arcane magic to a cleric--without playing a Mystic Theurge [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm currently creating a human cleric of Wee Jas. I want her to be able to do some things with arcane spells, as well--as befitting someone who worships a goddess of magic. I don't want a multiclass wizard/cleric, especially since this campaign is starting out low-level and it will be a huge hindrance.

I'm looking here for a way to give this cleric some arcane abilities, without turning her into a mage.

Take the Magic Domain.

Check out the granted power from the magic domain:

Use scrolls, wands, and other devices with spell completion or spell trigger activation as a wizard of one-half your cleric level (at least 1st level). For the purpose of using a scroll or other magic device, if you are also a wizard, actual wizard levels and these effective wizard levels stack.

Well you dont want to take wizard...thats tough then...if your willing to take just a few wiz levels (i think 2 or 3) you can do true necromancer.

Libris Mortis, right? I have totally got to get that book. I keep getting referred to it.

Bingo. I would also suggest having a look at Dirgesinger. Because it is so much win.

Have you seen the Archivist class in Heroes of Horror? May be up your alley...

There's also the Divine Magician alternate class feature in Complete Mage. It basically takes up one of your two Domain slots, you lose out on a domain power, but make up for it by being able to pick a spell of each level from the wizard list (Necromancy, Divination, Transmutation schools, I think).

Abjuration, Divination, and Necromancy.

Not the juiciest wizzie spells, but there are some goodies. Divine Magician, with your other domain being Magic, would work out well.
