| _Bolshack_Dragon_02-20-05, 09:47 PM | I know this sounds somewhat odd, but I want Lycanthropy. Anyone know of anyways to get it? |
| seaweed_smokeweed02-20-05, 09:52 PM | Ummm, yeah! It's called get bit by a lycanthrope and hope you roll good will saves so you don't turn evil. Unless that is something you want in the cards for your PC. |
| Callista02-20-05, 10:10 PM | Eeep. I wouldn't suggest it. Why? --Alignment change. Werewolf=CE. Always. You pretty much can't avoid it. There are, of course, other lycanthropes that don't change your alignment to Evil--the Bear, for example, is LG--but do you really want your character development stuck to a single alignment? --Level adjustment. You'll start out more powerful than characters of your level, but your higher ECL means you'll end up leveling slower; and eventually they catch up to you. Which means that, as a level-X lycanthrope, you're facing CR X+(4 or so) monsters--and your fellow characters will be higher levels than you. If you're playing a class with powers that get much greater with level--say, a fighter with his feats or a wizard with his spells--don't exchange those levels for the powers of a lycanthrope. Your party will NOT be grateful. (If you're a Barbarian, take the Bear Warrior PrC, or something like it. You'll be able to "wildshape" into a bear without any of the Lycanthrope-associated problems.) --And, speaking of your party: Being an Afflicted Lycanthrope means you'll change involuntarily! Essentially, you become an NPC... and your character has no idea what happened during that time. You could kick butt in battle... or you could kill your best friend in their sleep. You don't always pass Control Shape checks--and the first few times, you don't even *get* those checks since you haven't made the Will save to even understand what happened to you while you blacked out. Remember that, during this first, vulnerable time when you don't quite know what just happened to you... you are also more powerful than your party members, so killing them accidentally becomes a distinct possibility. Soo... you want to change into a wolf or other animal? Great--but don't try it as a lycanthrope!! There are spells, abilities, prestige classes, and items that can do it for you without the danger. |
| twad02-20-05, 11:11 PM | lycantropy is like playing with nitro: powerfull, sounds cool, filled with potential destructive goodness, higly unstable, brutal death garanteed. |
| Super Guy02-21-05, 01:31 PM | Lycanthropy, eh...? Well, here's the deal. Talk with your DM. See if you can organize some sort of will save to avoid turning CE upon changing to a werewolf or wererat. Being an animal that has a neutral lycanthropy alignment (tiger, boar) or LG alignment (bear) would probably be a better idea, since I doubt you'd conflict with your party that way. But, you need to have Control Shape. During your next level up, don't spend your skills yet- they're lost if you don't spend them before the next level, but if you just delay they're not lost yet. Get infected. Spend them all in control shape. To find a lycanthrope, find some sort of mage or guild of mages. They have divinations and can find out about whereabouts of lycanthropes. Before getting bitten, ask your party to cast Bestow Curse on you, as well as taking off any item that boosts your fort save or Constitution. Get bitten several times, since your character won't know whether or not he's successfully been infected. It's risky, but if the infecter is a CE werewolf, you might consider paying him instead of fighting him. He's chaotic evil, not chaotic insane, he's likely to take payment. I've played a lycanthrope once- as long as you can control yourself, there's no problem. Unless, of course, people in the party are against your being a lycanthrope. |
| Board_Rider02-21-05, 01:35 PM | Ask your DM for a character sheet. Create a character with a were Template. Add classes, skills and attributes. Dollup of roleplaying Mix together Enjoy! |
| MageofMyth02-21-05, 04:20 PM | Talk to the DM. It may or may not fit the campaign. The DM may or may not allow Lycanthropy characters. Most of them imediately make them NPCs. |
