I'm playing in a campaign which has, after the death/retirement of all the other players, now follows my Paladin/Dragonrider/Hospitaler/Cavalier (I Min-Max like nobody's business) and his cohort (Cohorticus the Cleric), and my small army of followers.

I run a large city, and at level 15, I'm killing monsters and NPCs up to 3 CRs higher then me. Often without injury.

After defending my city against an army of undead, demons, and a pair of Hellfire Wyrms, someone wants to turn me into a celestial.

Oh, and just a side note... I'm sleeping with my Silver Dragon mount. ...gotta love Artistic license. (And hey, half-dragons have to come from somewhere!)

So, the question:
Time to retire the character?

*Snigger* Cohorticus the Cleric Cohort. Imaginative.

It's my belief that one would be best to only retire your character when one of two things happen: either you are no longer having fun with your PC, or someone else is no longer having fun with your PC being around.

Do you think that you'd have more fun if you decided to switch PC's to something else? That counts, so go for it.

Perhaps its time to retire your DM.

Your character could easily be a central plot element for a story you could write. Have the DM and other players play adventurerers working for you, or against you... lead to the death or immortaility of your character... and in another session in the future, raid his dungeon of a tomb.

Lol your post almost sounds like bragging. I dont know what you are looking for, a pat on the back maybe?

Ive been playing d&d for 14 years and nobody has ever been that strong with our group bc we play a more 'realistic' game.

Id suggest you retire this character yes, though how you even got here speaks volumes about the type of game you play.

Here we have the visual proof for all to read. Walking, talking proof of why many of us (including myself) always say that a DM should not run a player character in his own campaign.

Perhaps I'm making an assumption here, but after reading your post I have to conclude that you are either the DM or you are sleeping with the DM.

If the GM can't figure out a way to carve your character down to size, he isn't worthy of the name.

Surely you're a threat to someone, somewhere, who can do something about you. :D

Okay...
That's just wrong...
Is your mount able to polymorph into a humanoid? If not... :yuck:

Your character should been retired a long time ago - solo campaigns rarely turn out to be a true test of the character, unless it's for a paladin's atonement or something. Get yourself some new fellow players and start again.

03-06-07, 04:12 PM
This seems like the perfect player to get sucked into Ravenloft. Perhaps the character could get sucked in without his castle and such, instead.

Hmm, getting lonely and want to shag your mount? Sure, but it'll be a dread mount instead.
Want to build a castle stronghold? Sure, but the only people with the skills are slavers.
You can be the second LG Pally to get trapped in Ravenloft as a Darklord. Then your DM can control that lovelly little arrogant pally.

If you were able to single handly defeat a pair of CR 26 Hellfire Wyrms, there is no point in continuing, since NOTHING could possibally be a challange anymore.

The at will Blasphemy alone should of made it near impossible for you to win. Im not even going into the other at will abilities

Yeah, I'd say it's time to retire. Let him take his time off, mabye raise his scaly little kids. In a future campaign, play one of them!

Or, you could have something go so completely wrong in his life and make him a Blackgaurd. Then your DM has a new adventure!

If you can kill 2 CR 26 creatures by yourself, you either:

1. broke the rules
2. have WAYYYY to much wealth
3. have a DM who plays very nice

Most probably a combination thereof

Either way you should retire your DM.

Y'know ... we never asked why the other players retired or (if their characters died) didn't bring in new characters.

I think we know the answer.

Because next to this Monty Haul of Monty Hauls, whatever they could accomplish in the game would SUCK!

So, is the GM:

a) your elder brother
b) your younger brother
c) your younger sister
d) your dog
e) your girlfriend
f) your boyfriend (had to be said)
g) your mother
or h) you?

Please answer honestly for extra credit.

Serious Note: THe Hellfire Wyrm is BADLY over CRed.

It claims to be CR 26, but it has less than 26 HD (23), It makes many less attacks than a real dragon, its Fear Aura is weaksauce, its summons are not even CR apporpriate (It should be summoning Bel, not not some dudes 15 CRs lower than itself), it doesn't deal that much damage with its breath weapon (14d10 is the same as a CR 17 Mature Red Adult dragon)

The Hellfire Wyrm has less magic spells than the Mature Red, it has less spells, it has higher AC (by 5 points) SR, and Fear DCs, but it lacks the attack routine of the Mature Red and has about as many HP.

So, I'm thinking Hellfire Wyrm is probably a CR 17-18 opponent. In 3.5, It's DR is not going to be 20/+5 (which makes it rough for a 17-18th level party).

Beating 2 3.5 Hellfire wyrms Is not the epic feat you're claiming it is.

Oh, and he's compensating for something...

DungeonMasterTEK

ok, you know what? Too many replies to respond to each individually! So, I'm just gonna make a mass reply:

Retire my DM? Good idea, but he really is insanely good qith quest hooks, which is unfortunately a rare traight among my group.

My character broken (or nerfed, whatever you want to call it)? Of course he is! I power game like you'd never believe possible! Of course, I'm also a fanatic rules nerd, so I'm fairly confident that I'm within the rules (at least of DnD, if not reality).

The dragon thing? Dragons can assume any small or medium humanoid or animal form. And since my dragon happened to be something like 3 years younger then my character (mid-twenties: 16 year olds should NOT be allowed to advance past level 10), and had 18 Charisma, it was too tempting not to do it solely to mess with my Dm.

And my lack of a sex life is entirely voluntary, thank you very much.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Possibly the LEAST plausible statement I have ever heard.

Okay, now that you're back, why did everyone else either retire or choose not to make new characters for the game, if you are having so much fun?

Or is it because you are having so much fun, and they can't match up to you?

Note that I have no idea who Barachiel is, but a GM who allows you to have someone from the Book of Exalted Deeds buff you up in combat needs his head read. Really.

Please...tell me this is some... sick...twisted joke *brain begins to bleed out of ears*...before it's too late...*reads bit about Barachiel*...oooohhhhh....

Okay, here's the solution. You haven't truly *won* D&D yet. To win, you must first pick up a hammer gun, most good weapons stores have them. Buy two hammers for ammo. Then proceed to go to your DM and fire the gun at him. Then reload, place the gun at the base of your skull at a slight upward angle to ensure the destruction of the entire brain. Pull the trigger.

Congratulations, you have successfully won D&D
Ack

03-09-07, 06:19 AM
But is it truly winning if you cheat?

... because SOMEONE was sure as hell cheating.

As evidenced by everyone else choosing to leave the game (or not come back, which amounts to the same thing).

So, if you want to know if you've really won?

Lose all the contacts.

Lose everything except a +1 Breastplate, and maybe a mastercraft sword. Nothing that's not in the PHB.

Lose all the cool (GM-bestowed) friends and allies - yes, including the silver dragon that you love to boast about sleeping with.

Lose all but about five levels of character class.

Try and do all that again. With a different GM.

See how far you get.

If you get all the way to where you are, again, then yes, you've won D&D.

If not, then you've just used the equivalent of cheat codes to sleaze your way to the point where you think you have.

Your move.

Somehow I couldn't resist replying to this masturbatory post. In later posts you talk about developing that relationship with the dragon over 14 levels, so you got the dragon at level 2? You also talk about the dragon being 3 years younger than your character, yet you can use it as a mount? According to Draconomicon (which presumably you have access to because of the dragon rider PrC) the youngest silver dragon a medium creature could ride would be a juvenile, which would be 26-50, I believe you said your character is 16 at this point, or were you saying the dragon was 16, making your character 19?

Care to elaborate on how this all works? I thought you claimed to be a rules fanatic? For that matter, how about the rest of the build? You might not be cheating but I can guarantee that any DM who gives a juvenile or older silver dragon to a 2nd level character is sure as hell being way too lenient.

The MM2 3.5 update puts it at DR 15/epic, not that getting past DR 15/anything at level 15 is all that tough.

I do agree that CR 26 is probably way too high though.

I ran a game once where one of the PCs started with a dragon as a mount. And yes, he too was going to have her able to shapechange and also be his girlfriend (must be a fairly common fantasy, I guess).

However, these were evil characters; it was an evil game.

So I had a larger, older, male dragon accost them, solely to challenge the PC's right to have sole access to this female dragon.

It did not end well. :P

Okay, it isn't hard to see what's going on here. The OP decided that he was the coolest thing since sliced bread, and wanted someone else to tell him so. He got on here and people are (rightfully) wholly unimpressed. That's how it should be. However, let's not all stand in a huddle saying, "hey, my turn! I haven't gotten a chance to kick the loser yet!" That's unbecoming of us.

Seriously, think back to when you were a (I'm guessing) 13-year old antisocial little aspiring geek. I'll bet you had your handdrawn Marvel comics or X-files scripts or Harry Potter fanfic (depending on your age) that you were convinced were the greatest thing ever. They were all horribly hackneyed, Mary Sue'd garbage with a 13 year old's understanding of coolness (and sex). This guys problem is that he has a whole internet to look at his work and snear, while we fogeys just had the other 13 year old nerds that we showed our work to.

I know. He put it to us. This isn't the star wars kid. He's getting what he deserves, but that doesn't mean that we deserve to give it to him. It would be respectful for us to treat it as what it is: another neophytes first stumble out of the gate. We had it too, just not as publically. Besides, he's a socially inept child, why should we get any satisfaction out of taking him down a notch?

Anyway, DungeonMasterTEK -- it appears to everyone that you created this thread to brag about your cool character. Unfortunately, your character doesn't seem cool to anyone here. It seems like is kind of a self fantasy where you get to compensate for your own lack of control in the world by making (and we meen making, as the DM seems to be handing you the world on a platter) a 'self insertion' character who has everything going for him (what alot of people call masturbatory, although self gratifying is a more accurate term). You also say that you are a rules nerd, yet this seems to be your first time here (since you hadn't seemed to have learned how to use the quote function to respond to specific people), and thus you clearly haven't done the online research of rules interactions and what other people have run into that are the hallmarks of being a true rules expert. I would suggest that instead of coming here to try and get us to think that you are cool, you actually try to become a member of the community here. That way, you might get a chance to do something worthy of praise.

Time to retire the character?

um...time to either retire from gaming in general or your DM...

Also sleeping with a silver dragon isn't that unheard of they can naturaly shape change after all. Though the thought that you had to add that in...was poor.

Oh, is this the brag thread? 'Kay.

I had a drow wizard/archmage with an artifact ring that could suck dying or recently killed demons into itself and convert them into a blast of magical force with damage equivalent to their HD.

His goal was to take over a layer of the Abyss (he wasn't evil, he just wanted power and figured ticking off a bunch of evil jerks was better than trying to take over a good-aligned plane or something, because they were evil jerks so nobody would care) and then rule with an appropriate amount of succubi, hot drow womens etc. etc. by his side.

He did, too!

Oh wait, that never happened because that game only lasted one session. He already had a surprised and angry Juiblex inside his ring by the end of that, though, so I think we can take the Abyssal layer + hot drow erinyes harem as a given.

i ween at dee en dees!

You don't win DnD until you have defeated Invisible Christopher Walken! but seriously, you should have retired your character when all the others players abandoned you and your Dm. The real question thougt, did all the other quit because of you, the Dm or both? or maybe they were eaten by artic wolves?

I really wish the OP would reply to his thread...

Good luck on your next campaign, and keep the self indulgent Mary Sue characters in the shoebox under your bed, not on public forums.

Here we have the visual proof for all to read. Walking, talking proof of why many of us (including myself) always say that a DM should not run a player character in his own campaign.

Perhaps I'm making an assumption here, but after reading your post I have to conclude that you are either the DM or you are sleeping with the DM.

Hey now I have a husband that is a DM and he will kill me off if I get to powerful. Trust me it has happened before. What is power leveling (i just started playing and we dont play that way)

Killing you off because you got too powerful? Now there's an eays way out. He should've talked to you about you voluntarily giving up some of your magic items, for example(maybe donate to a church) insetad of just killing your character. If your character is too powerufl, it's the DM's fault really.

And what about when basically everyone I meet either cries and wets themselves from my diplomacy rolls, or wants to kill me?
Why would anyone cry, run away or wet them self because of a diplomacy "roll" (I'm guessing you mean check). Maybe if you were do intimidate checks they would do that. And what does fighting you have to do with any of that. Maybe if you did do a diplomacy check got a 1 and said "Me and my dragon here did dirty things with your wife last night" when you were trying to convince them to let you through to the king, then they may attack you.

(and I love the snarf quest reference)

Thank you. Every once in a while it can be really rewarding to step back from one's own forum behavior and say, "what's really going on? who are these people and what are they really doing?" It becomes really easy to think of a thread as a contest of wills, where you get some kind of satisfaction out of "winning" against some other poster or posters. There are some people out there who seem to be genuinely addicted to being "right" in the discussions (arguments really) that they are participating in. I won't pretend I don't fall victim to those tendencies. I've seen others as too full of themselves and wanted to 'take them down a notch.' But on my better days I realize how sad that is; not only because I'm pretending that I have some real influence on that person, but because I'm basing some level of my own self esteem on my perceived ability to cause someone else to feel bad about themself in some small way. I like to think I'm better than that.

So DungeonMasterTEK is just beginning to understand understand concepts such as being cool, or being sexy, and making a bunch of rookie mistakes. That sucks for him, not me. I know that because it sucked for me when I was in his position. When I was 13 I made up D&D characters (that in my mind were an alter ego, not just a character I was playing) who had 18/00 str, 18 every other score, and a 25 charisma, won all their adventures, and got to have sex with all the goddesses in the Deities and Demigods book. I also envisioned myself as the Crow, Cable, or Batman from the 1990 movie (I'm showing my age here), thought my scripts for ST:TNG were the greatest thing ever written, and thought Piers Anthony's Xanth series had realistic depictions of the relationships between the sexes. I wanted desperately to have someone tell me that I was cool, and didn't understand that I actually had to work at doing something worthy of praise to get that.

So I'm not going to blame someone for not being mature NOW, because that's unfairly making that requirement at a point in time where I happen to be mature. I wasn't mature then, DungeonMasterTEK isn't mature now. Someday he will be (well, most likely, there are people that never do seem to gain social graces or mature attitudes, and historically they have gravitated to RPGs). Hopefully at that point, he won't be on whatever has replaced internet forums making fun of the 13 year olds who don't happen to be mature at that point in time.

But before that happens, Tek, I'd reccommend playing your character's half-Dragon son. Preferably locked away in time or something until his father is just a myth. Give you a chance for a Legacy Weapon, and gives everyone else a chance to get back in the game without feeling overshadowed.

No, the point of D&D is having fun as a group. When the rest of the players quit cos one player and the DM are engaged in a mutual stroke-fest then that is most certainly a problem.

Your point being...? Maybe the others moved/graduated/whatever. Maybe they did get tired of playing in the same group. The point is that he and the DM still had fun. And if he is the DM, big deal. He was still having fun.

No, the point of D&D is having fun as a group. When the rest of the players quit cos one player and the DM are engaged in a mutual stroke-fest then that is most certainly a problem.

To answer point 1: it was a group -- the op and the DM. However, it needn't be a group. You can game solo and still have fun. It appears to me that you are measuring his game by your standards.

All I'll say in response to point 2 is that it was completely uncalled for, and most likely against the CoC. IF the other players quit because they didn't like the style, that's fine. Conflicts of style happen all the time. The point is still that the OP and the DM still had fun.

I have no doubt he was having fun. But was he playing D&D in any way that the rest of us here would recognise as a legitimate way to "win teh dee un dee"; that is, in a way that we would accept as being praiseworthy?

Or was he just stomping his way willy-nilly through random encounters, with GM-added buffs on the situations when it looked like he might be about to lose a hit point?

That is what we are debating.

If they want to play solo then play solo, don't push the other players away through selfishness. The only difference in "standards" seems to be that I respect other people.

All I'll say in response to point 2 is that it was completely uncalled for, and most likely against the CoC. IF the other players quit because they didn't like the style, that's fine. Conflicts of style happen all the time. The point is still that the OP and the DM still had fun.
