I'm looking for a spin on the Sorcerer class. We play a straight forward game only utilizing the core rule books and splat books such as T&B. Which is fine with me.
The reason for the post is simple. We're switching DMs next game and I mentioned that I wanted to run a 1/2 Dragon Sorcerer, and well that just didn't fly. So I was curious of what would be a good way to change things up a bit, or just an opinion of what has worked out in the to be an effective approach to the charactor.
Any insight would be helpful!

-Go for completely non-damaging spells. Don't even think about that Magic Missile and Fireball. Go all-out on Sleep, Fly and Misdirection, stuff like that. See how much better that really is, and what the players reactions are. Statements like "WTF! Tat R W33K!" or "OMG! Tat R 1337!" usually say how open-minded the players really are, it's a nice experiment.
-In my campaign, every sorcerer has some sort of arcane mark, that says "Hey! I'm a sorcerer of [family line]." The mark is usually on the face, and anything from a small lightning bolt on the forehead to a full-out, Maori-style tattoo goes. Maybe you'd like one of those. Scare people with it.
-Give me an R! Give me a A! Give Me a G! Give me a E! Give me a RAGE MAGE! :woot:

Just a few suggestions.

One level in monk, the rest in Sorcerer, and go for touch spells only.

Battle sorcerer (Unearthed Arcana).

Sorcerer with Augment Summoning and lots and lots of summon spells.

Convince your DM to make you a Ghost. You'll be hella scary, sending your Charisma through the atmosphere, and all the while getting it to AC.

I wish there were more ways to receive Charisma to saves other than Paladin, though. I'd love to see Sorcerors with that ability. Nobody'd ever complain about them being weak, then, they'd be undisputed, and all Dragons/Ogre Mages would immediately become far scarier than they already are.

Go for the Sorcerer. Get your hands on the Complete Arcane book and take the Draconic heritage feats - just the starting one at level 1 and get the Breath Weapon one. Make it a cone breath weapon, preferably Fire.

Now continue to level the character up and take mostly utility or crowd control spells and always keep in mind that you can swap out a spell for a Breath Weapon use at will - it's both effective and looks pretty darned cool.

For the rest of the character - Heh, make him or her Good aligned and be a devout worshiper of a Good aligned deity right at the start. Work hard and stay a sorcerer and enter into the Sacred Exorcist PrC from Complete Divine. With your new undead turning, grab the Sacred Healing Divine feat from the same book and now you're a sorcerer that can heal people without even using a spell.
