ideas for battlesmith [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-04-07, 01:40 PM anyone play a battlesmith before? any ideas? I have a dwarf cleric at 7th level. I play in a large party of 10 which allows some different character playing. any past experiences would be helpful.

Define "Battlesmith" a bit better. :) It really isn't a term that fits all that well in D&D. However, there is a PrC in Magic of Incarnum that allows you to imbue/enhance/bind your weapons that you crafted yourself (not very good for clerics though).

I have never used the class, but it seems pretty weak, and rather 'blah', to me (of course, I find the whole book to be on the weak side, except maybe Goliaths).

IT doesn't progress you casting, which is Bad with a capital B.
Seems like a 1 level dip for the damage bonus might be ok, but aside from that it seems a little pointless.

But if you really do want to, the class seems pretty straight forward. Craft a hammer and some armor and go smash stuff.

07-04-07, 06:30 PM Battlesmith is really bad for clerics (as already stated). The loss of both caster level AND 9th level spells is a killer.

I find the Battlesmith to be better for other melee fighters that have a decent/high wisdom. Clerics get more mileage out of their higher level spells and spell level than they would out of a few points of damage from their wisdom bonus.

In general I can't see the mechanical appeal of a battlesmith, but don't let that stop you. If you like the idea of the class and it fits your idea of your character, go with it.

07-05-07, 07:30 PM Battlesmith is a good way for a non caster to make magic weapon and armor. Its not the most powerful class to throw into a build, but looks like it could be fun.
