| 11d701-30-05, 03:02 PM | Right now I'm having a little disagreence with the other people I'm playing with, you see he is no longer presenting a world I would like to play in so I'm leaving the game before any sorta incident happens. Plot reasons have forced my character to retire, and since I am only interested in playing that character I must leave the game. This plot reason is the rest of the party currently wants to take what I'm calling a suicide mission delivering the young daughter of an important goverment official back to her home, accross the sea. Now at first I though cool, my character would love to go on a boat and fight pirates (as would I) however I learned that the entire 6 mounths of sea travel will be glossed over becuase the rest of the party wants nothing to do with it and that once arrived they want to set up camp in this new land becuase everyone in the place we are now hates them however most like me and don't see why I travel with them (I do becuase we have the same enemy). From this prespective I could continue with them: if we were going to play out the sea travels (becuase looking at the DMs map we would be stopping on a number of island in a chain and a few other ones) and then at the end of them have a secne where we part ways and I head back out the to sea traveling back to my homeland where I have my house, martial arts school and my (not the parties) important NPC allies and enemies. However since the little ****ers dont want to spend 6-10 sessions (what the DM had planned) traveling across the sea visiting the islands I have no reason even to set foot on the damn boat. Why cant I just make another character you say? Becuase I really dont like the characters (and players) that much anyway and the only reason I stayed with them was so I could keep playing that character in the great world my DM has made. It comes down to the fact the DM has to Dm what most of the group wants, not what I want (dispite him agreeing I'm a much better player than them, heck one almost would not join when they learned at every world destroying evil would not not be within a days walk of where ever the place we lived was). How often have you people had to leave groups becuase you could not stand yoour fellow players or the plot of the DMs game? |
| A Chosen of Mystra01-30-05, 03:09 PM | I only have one group, and I dont think it will be any else. No one else on school played D&D. So we have always stayed in one group. But mostly Im the DM, but I have played with some other friends where we run a campaign where im lvl 18. Those are better players then those in my home town... :D Regards -Chosen |
| 11d701-30-05, 03:33 PM | I would also like to add that it will be next to impossable to find a new D&D group in this area. The reason is only 100 000 people live in Whitby and only 120 000 live in Oshawa. Not very many people play D&D and the ones I know that due I dont like playing with (have left their games in the past). I have since found a new group who will be starting an ebberon game but I cant join them now becuase my parents will not let me play with them (I'm almost 18 but live in their house) because they dont like the kinda people they are. Oh and when I move out I cant play with them either becuase I'm moving in september/august and well am moving to a new city and will not have time for D&D due to having to work and school. Why did these ****ing ****ers take the one ****ing DM in the area I like and right before it will be a while till I can play again? Next time one of them so much as annoys me I'm sending them to the hospital. |
| Encard01-30-05, 04:09 PM | Y'know, perhaps it wasn't your intention, but both your posts just make you sound like a spoiled, irritating person that most groups would want nothing to do with. I mean, are you honestly complaining that the group didn't want to spend many sessions on something that's largely boring and irrelevant to them just to accomodate you and your character? Yeesh. As for the question posed in the first post... I've only had to leave one game due to conflicts with the DM/party, and in that case I was a co-DM. The DM proved too incompetent to work with, however (didn't know the rules, didn't understand the principles behind the rules but still made new ones, showed favoritism to his DMPC, tried worldbuilding but just ended up with horrible frustrating trash, etc), so both I and the other co-DM left. This was in a fairly large play-by-post game, in case any were wondering how we'd managed to end up with 3 DMs. :P |
| warpdragon01-30-05, 04:31 PM | Simple. Run a 1 on 1 campaign with you DM on a different day of the week in the same world where you left off not going on the boat. |
| Xenocide01-30-05, 04:52 PM | Definitions in your post Idiots: People who don't want to play the same way as you. Good DM: DM who says I'm the best player Suicide Mission: Mission I don't want to do that doesn't sound that hard Plot reasons forced me: I don't understand that D&D is a group game People I don't like playing with: Everyone in the entire area except my DM People who like to play differently: DM stealers who I should send to the hospital I must leave the game: I choose to leave the game (no force involved) |
| nyysjan01-30-05, 04:56 PM | get a grip man/woman/thing and chill out it's just a character you can always make a new one but gaming groups can be hard to come by |
| e-z0r01-30-05, 05:01 PM | Ask the DM to engineer a plot reason why your character would want to go to the new continent. |
| 11d701-30-05, 06:43 PM | I know I sould like an idiot saying that the other players are idiots for wanting to play differntly but when in the middle of the DMs discription of something they say: "Yea we get it, can we kill it now?" (one person) another when in town, or more correctly talking to NPCs: "Yes, cut the diolog, just tell me the jist of what they are saying and I respond in whatever way moves the story along fasted" and the other when we need to travel "Yea I know its 2 weeks travel from here to there but I hate travel so lets just assume the 2 weeks go by and we get in no encounters". Then him and the smash only player fight over that. They are seriously the worse group I have every played with, the DM hates them but they are the only players he has and one is his brother, cant kick him out, mom will not let him (hes the skip the traveling one). I wish we could play a one on one adventure but his mom will not let him, as in if hes playing his 14 year old brother HAS to be playing, its not like we can go anywhere else to play without his mom finding out, seriously, bringing all those DM materials out of the house, way to be sneaky carrying a duffel bag and back pack full of books and paper. As far as playing with other groups, I hate all the other DMs I know, they are all either ALL SMASHY Ignore the detials camapigns or plots I have not wish to be parts of, I dont want to play ebberon and be stuck working for a house (cause every ebberon game around here is like that). |
| Vaval01-30-05, 07:06 PM | I am the DM in question and it is as bad as 11d7 here is saying. I have to DM my little brother becuase I still live at home, going to school on my own money I cant afford to live away from home. The other 2 players are his stupid shithead freinds and I cant stand them. They drove off 2 more people who were once in the group. I would not mind if 11d7 put my bro in the hospital to get him out of my life atleast for a while. I'm thinking of just quiting DMing untill I have somewhere to play I don't have to let my brother. |
| Kobold Paladin01-30-05, 07:17 PM | Vaval called me and told me to post in this thread. I am one of his former players, he used to live with me but the rent go to high on are appartment and he moved back in with his folks and I found a cheaper place I could afford myself. If you knew his brother you would want to put him in the hospital, Vaval why dont you move back in with me now lol, I can afford the place myself so if you move in it will be jokes but very cramped, 11d7 I would invite you to move into my little hovel but I know your girlfreind would kill you, you would spend even less time with her. |
| Razoreface01-30-05, 07:20 PM | but gaming groups can be hard to come by Not if you're determined and want to play.. there are ways to get new groups. Even in smallish towns like Whitby, but that's sort of age-dependent. It's about five miles from Oshawa, you can probably bus it there. I don't know, I don't live out east. But Whitby is thirty miles from downtown Toronto, which has a pretty good supply of gamers. I could even recommend one of the best roleplayers I know who lives in Mississauga, which is something line fifty miles.. In a car that's not terribly far, if there's a car. I mean, are you honestly complaining that the group didn't want to spend many sessions on something that's largely boring and irrelevant to them just to accomodate you and your character? Yeesh. He pointed out that the DM had originally intended to spend between six and ten sessions on the journey, which passed along several island chains. How many DMs do you know who would plan six sessions worth of boring material? That's also kind of inconsiderate about the DM.. he clearly planned a bunch of stuff, stuff that the players are now telling him that they don't want to bother doing because they think it'd be boring travel. Idiots: People who don't want to play the same way as you. Who seem to be irritated when evil deeds are in inconvenient locations that require actual travelling? They also seem like their characters might have some intrapersonal problems, since they have somehow managed to **** so many people off that they're leaving the country. Suicide Mission: Mission I don't want to do that doesn't sound that hard Kind of sweeping since the DM clearly planned some obstacles on the journey which would have taken up to ten sessions. Which I noted before, is hard to make incredibly boring and so easy that he must not have actually had to plan it in advance, to guess about how many sessions it'd take. I must leave the game: I choose to leave the game (no force involved) Unsurvivable circumstances. You can sue a company for making your working conditions unlivable to the point that you can't stay. If a group is constantly at some sort of conflict, staying is stupid. How often have you people had to leave groups becuase you could not stand yoour fellow players or the plot of the DMs game? I've been in maybe nine groups, but only two have I ever actually left due to some sort of conflict. One online, with a brother and sister duo who constantly used a "we've been gaming for twenty years so know better" to override decisions made by a fairly new DM, who wasn't just within her right to decide on, she was actually just following rules.. when that group disolved because the DM couldn't handle it anymore, she actually gave up DMing and even cut back quite a bit on her playing. The second one was a group I gamed with for quite a long time, one that started off fairly well with people who were fairly equally concerned with roleplaying and with their character's stats and abilities. New people joined and the balance started to shift, and even the people who were really good roleplayers would roleplay less and less. Characters that once arrived at a table with a typed page or more of well-thought background became shells, with a single line of "history" scrawled down one side of the character sheet. That group actually got to a point where there was a table rule that "useless talking".. roleplaying not OOC chatter, was limited to ten minutes. If there was travelling, travelling would last longer than ten minutes without some sort of xp-generating encounter. Half the time I'd lay on the floor with a book on my face, generally ignoring them. When it came to me DMing a campaign for them, I couldn't do that anymore and I really started to take notice of this group which seemed so radically different than the one I joined. When they got to a puzzle, even a riddle written on a wall, they didn't want to think.. they'd start listing off skills and modifiers and asking which they could roll to solve it. So yeah, I left that group. Sometimes, people have to leave groups. There's probably at least two posts a week like this, and probably half of them really legitimately should consider leaving the group. |
| 11d701-30-05, 07:28 PM | Oshawa is so close by but my parents will not let me game with most people from there. It seems all the gamers live in south oshawa and my parents will not let me go there past dark (it really is that bad) unless I have a ride home, which I dont most of the time. The other problem is my parents will not let me play with people they think are freaks or people more than a few years older than me, when my mom found out I was playing with 30 year olds in the last group i was in she went crazy and I had to quit. |
| Kaboth01-30-05, 08:15 PM | This may sound harsh.... But if your the DM.... GROW SOME BALLS!!!! Its your game, your session, your world and your rules. If they dont like it they can quit and find another DM. Your brother doesnt have to play if he doesnt want to. You may HAVE to DM your little brother, but nothing says you have to totally accomodate or kiss his arse either. Its simple to be authoritive in your campaign world. Have two rules... RULE #1 : The DM has final say in his campaign world! RULE #2: If you have any problems with the DM please refer back to rule #1 or get the phook out of my campaign. See is that not simple or what? Now if you are the player in question and the DM sides with the other players you have 3 options, A. keep playing, B. Quit Playing, or C. try a very diplomatic approach and try to negotiate a settlement where all sides might be happy. If either side is unrelenting in their goals then see the first two options I listed denoted as A. and B. |
| JesseDennehy01-30-05, 08:34 PM | Forgive me for stating the obvious - but who says your mom or brother have to know? What are you a lawful good son? Come on, embrace your inner rogue ;) Jesse |
| Garkin01-30-05, 09:09 PM | I would also like to add that it will be next to impossable to find a new D&D group in this area. The reason is only 100 000 people live in Whitby and only 120 000 live in Oshawa. Not very many people play D&D and the ones I know that due I dont like playing with (have left their games in the past). You think you're so hard done by? I live in a town with less then 10,000 poeple in it. Four poeple(includeing my slef) play D&D. |
| RoCkEtInToXiCaTe01-30-05, 10:09 PM | I play with my best friends, we just started playing. We don't argue and we don't care if something is slightly wrong. My suggestion: Get some of your best friends, and teach them D&D. That way you can all chill and have fun. It's not too hard to learn, if you have PHB. |
| Thonili_Moonbringer01-30-05, 10:15 PM | I can see it now--a large vessel floating peacfully along in the tranquil waters. The sailors are busying themselves as the final destination comes into view, the island chains behind. The party, anxiously awaiting the mission to come, stands on deck as the land comes closer. Suddenly, one of the adventurers notices something--a monstrous tentacle, flailing in the sea. Moments later, another appendage wraps itself around the boat entirely, rocking it back and forth. The adventurers unsheathe their weapons and hack at it, attempting to pry the boat free. But to no avail, for the Dire-Celestial-Paragon-Lich Krakenzilla has struck again. If only the party had stopped at one of the islands to recieve warning that such a menace was to be found on their very route... Maybe Krakenzilla isn't the best choice, but you get my meaning: kill 'em all off. The two friends can make themselves scarce while the guys who left and the DM's little brother (only since he seems to be a necessity) can roll up new PCs who join your character back on the mainland, having never stepped on the boat. |
| Wizard01-30-05, 10:23 PM | Krakenzilla...hmmm... :evillaugh |
| Kobold Paladin01-30-05, 10:27 PM | RoCkEtInToXiCaTe, Just so you know Whitby, Oshawa and Ajax are like 30 minutes from down town Toronto which has over 2,000,000 living there and like 3 million in the city in the day who work there, just at out age we cant get there without large amounts of trouble and NASHVILLE is a hick town in the south! If it where up to me everyone in that area would be dead via orbital nuke strike you ****ing inbreeding hicks, its people like yours fault me and my assosiates have such a low view of humanity. |
| thugpoetry01-30-05, 10:31 PM | I think I agree with a previous poster. They don't wanna play the boat travel? Isn't that a crying shame...however, just like they don't get to skip the car ride to school the next morning, they also don't get to skip the boat ride. If they don't like it....Hey! No more little bro playing in the game! "I offered to let him play. He doesn't want to play. *shrugs* What can I do?" Win-win sitch. |
| Kobold Paladin01-30-05, 10:37 PM | Oh and PS RoCkEtInToXiCaTe: Also if you knew anything beyond your retared nations public school system education plan you would know that the human brain reads by looking at the frist and last letter of words and what letters are between them, not what order they are in! If you can under stand something it means the way it is spelt means nothing to anyone with a mind open enouph to accept it asswipe. |
| RoCkEtInToXiCaTe01-30-05, 10:41 PM | You ignorance proves what a dumb-ass northerner you are. ****ing Canadians. You don't know anything about the South. And as for in-breeding, that's Arkansas. Nashville is the capital of a ****ing state, the only city larger down here in Tennessee is Memphis. So go screw yourself in the toilet. If you had an educational system you and your friends could spell correctly, and know the basic structure for a sentence. You look smarter if you can spell, and at least get a basic point across without having any errors. |
| 11d701-30-05, 10:56 PM | WOW KP, you dont have to go that crazy on him (but seeing how its from nashville of all places I guess its alright). RoCkEtInToXiCaTe you see the problem that me and KP (and I would assume Vaval would back us up on it) have with you is you represent what we dont like about the human race, by coming the these board and doing other anti social things we avoid people like you as much as possable but: hey your on our boards (not really ours, well you get the point)! Also KP hates the south (and most places and people) becuase well, your just less, well advanced than those in our circle are, most people are less advanced but you and your kind are very much so, as bad as the people breeding out of control creating unwanted children (who dont want to be born either) in Africa, as bad as all the christians, jews and muslems in the world being allowed to spread their faulse religons when it offends a good number of more advanced and enlightned people, you see we find that for humanity to survive and transend that forms of religon must be cast off before any more progress can be made improving the common people of the world, these religons breed nothing but ignorence and hatred for others differnt, if you dont belive that I'd like you to talk to a few people I know who have been assulted for being differnt in ways I'm sure even you can tell from what I'm talking about. I know of those who have been killed for these reasons and in every trial transcript I've read one of those religon comes up, how can they claim to be enlightning if they breed that kind of behavior and people, how can the christian church not recall all of its bibiles when 1000s of tranlation errors have been recently uncovred so the origonal story can be told? Has it been changed to fit the needs of those in power? I religon can't claim it does good and some missunderstand it and do bad things, if they were enlightned they would know better than to trust the common person like that. |
| 11d701-30-05, 10:58 PM | If you had an educational system you and your friends could spell correctly, and know the basic structure for a sentence. You look smarter if you can spell, and at least get a basic point across without having any errors. You also didnt understand or choose to accept the part about how its been prove the human brain works in regards to that then shithead. |
| Kobold Paladin01-30-05, 11:04 PM | mispost |
| WizO_Catoblepas01-30-05, 11:25 PM | Ok, this thread has just turned into a flame war. Time to close it. Edit: Oh, and by the way, let's stop the regional insults. That's a sure-fire way to get an Official Warn on the boards. For all of those who decided to take part in such festivities in this thread, consider this your one and only fair warning. |
