| Adam50012-28-05, 11:59 AM | Okay in the game Im playing right now my character has started to have visions. OOC I know a good bit about the game world and what to expect (its FR with modifications), but these visions are the key to knowing what actions are needed to be taken. The DM has allready told me I could seek help in deciphering these visions from whereever I can get it, and so I came here first. Additionally, My character may or may not be/turn evil. (Right now I see him more as lawful neutral) Understanding of these visions could help out whatever plans I have greatly... in fact suggestions on how to use them to my own ends would be appreciated. (I essentially have the game on a silver platter) Our big enemy is Tiamat and through roleplay of npcs in the Star Wars universe (expansion of the material plane in the far future) we know Tiamat is eventually supposed to lay siege the world and destroy it, and the DM's pet npc has come back in time to stop it. Additionally, another player is playing an npc which is supposedly the antithesis of said npc and a servant of Tiamat. Now, the prophecies... (Qouted exactly from printouts by DM) It all began with visions of a bird(Raven or Crow) flying across the midday sky that I had every time the moon was full, had for one full year. I left the city to travel North, to seek help in another city. When I did the vision changed, the bird flew toward me. Finally it flew past me the next night heading toward the city I came from, and when I awoke I was surrounded by Dark skinned elves (Drow schism hasn't happened yet, but is close). The Prophecies of the Lamps of Heaven Prologue Long the Great Turmoil is set to rest Lost Stars shine once more The Painted Lady has done her deeds * Beneath the Altar of the Eldar Rambling across the Plains West of the sunsetting on the Desert sky - Part One Drums across the Northlands A dark messenger descends from the North Opening a rift in the earth Spelling DOOM * A wind for Yellow Sails Twin Dwarf-blades cleave the night Broken Manacles a Banner Makes * A hungry locust falls upon the barley Taking the best parts The running deer finds shelter from the rain * A Trickster finds the Path Halls of Stones, Halls of Bones Shadows crawl and slither * Titans at the Altar of the Serpent Giants underfoot Secrets of the Snake Sigil - (The next part is unusual, it is made up of eight stanzas, inscribed around a circle. Six form a hexagon around the circle, the longest sits in the middle of the circle and the last sits at the bottom of the page, I will denote which is which as it may matter) Part Two A Journey Undertaken Circle exterior (starting at top, going clockwise, bottom of text allways points toward circle) Bread and Roses Sunset over the Anchient Forest Eagles' flyover the Stone Dragon The Home is quenched with the Blood of the Oak Lords The Hidden Past lingers in the Sun As Sand in an Hourglass The Passage of the Ages Refuge from the Storm In the depths of the Lonely Sea Pearls To the Horizon as far as the Eye can See The Goat-Headed Master Returns Home Nail Biter Salt-spray then Carpets of Green Steppes of Stone lead to Heaven Where the Hammer meets A man, now burrowing beast Finds the way in the black roots of the past A false Tomb needs not keys Circle interior Seven Artifacts, One Found, the Others Hidden Deep Dwarven Delve into the Heart of Stone The Brutal Pick cuts Our Mother's Bones Shards of Light Sparkle in the Night Winnowing in thier Furious Flight Fire Burn Bright-Earthheart Forge Blaze Molten Metal marks the End of Dark Days Echoing the Music of the Spheres The Anvil of Songs Everyone Hears Shaping Hammer, Shaping Truth Pounding on our Common Roots Spirits of Your Ancestors Taken from thier Rest Seeking the Balance to Redress And the Orb Unbidden Page Bottom At Last a Lance for the Festering Boil Four Paths open the True Green Path Yet the Faint of Heart should best Turn Back If the Lyre Play Funeral Dirges Part Three The Suffering of the People The Fall Hidden Vales and Valleys lay in Mountain Shadows Far from View Thus the Enemy Awakens The Tree is first to Fall when comes the Axe Yet the First Free Remains to be Seen The Failure Now One by ONe the Wooden Soldiers Fall Alone on the Battlefield O Plague, O Scourge The Farmer has not Hands The Turning Allies and Enemies cannot Pass A Meeting befor the Tower A Test of Metal The Triumph A Smith begins to Craft An Undoing |
| MarkB12-28-05, 07:25 PM | Have you posted this on the Forgotten Realms boards? A lot of it looks campaign-setting specific. |
| Adam50012-29-05, 02:11 PM | Its not that simple... the setting is a Hodge-Podge. Faerun on one continent, Nyambe on another, Western Immorren on Another.... Ravenloft off somewhere, Star Wars is the far far future... and if I looked hard enough Im sure I could find Mystara and Spelljammer somewhere. |
| Grier12-30-05, 03:07 AM | I love prophecies. That doesn't mean I'm any good at it, but I'll give it a try. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ALL GUESSWORK AND INVOLVES NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANY OF THE LOCATIONS INVOLVED. I don't know a thing about FR etc. West of the sunsetting on the Desert sky Sounds to me like directions. Remember this line. Broken Manacles a Banner Makes This indicates a flag/banner/crest for someone, I'd guess. Bread and Roses Sunset over the Anchient Forest Eagles' flyover the Stone Dragon The Home is quenched with the Blood of the Oak Lords More locations/directions. In fact, most of the circle exterior prophecies sound like locations or people... Element: Maybe Fire Note: Ancient forest is an old forest, most likely with the First Tree. Stone Dragon is a mountain or rock formation. Oak Lords may be druids, but I'm leaning towards ents/treants. The Hidden Past lingers in the Sun As Sand in an Hourglass The Passage of the Ages The sun/sunlight is important, maybe a temple to the sun/sun god... Element: Maybe Fire? Maybe Time? Refuge from the Storm In the depths of the Lonely Sea Pearls Island, or underwater. Is there a Lonely Sea anywhere? A big sea, or maybe an inland sea? Element: Water To the Horizon as far as the Eye can See The Goat-Headed Master Returns Home Nail Biter Ooh... that sounds like some demon or something. Ring a bell in your campaign? Element: Evil? Salt-spray then Carpets of Green Steppes of Stone lead to Heaven Where the Hammer meets A mountain on an island? Maybe involving Dwarves? Element: Maybe Air? A man, now burrowing beast Finds the way in the black roots of the past A false Tomb needs not keys Underground cave/temple/tomb. A human turned into a burrowing creature? Purple worm maybe... Element: Earth Seven Artifacts, One Found, the Others Hidden Deep Dwarven Delve into the Heart of Stone The Brutal Pick cuts Our Mother's Bones Shards of Light Sparkle in the Night Winnowing in thier Furious Flight Fire Burn Bright-Earthheart Forge Blaze Molten Metal marks the End of Dark Days Echoing the Music of the Spheres The Anvil of Songs Everyone Hears Shaping Hammer, Shaping Truth Pounding on our Common Roots Spirits of Your Ancestors Taken from thier Rest Seeking the Balance to Redress And the Orb Unbidden Find the dwarves in your campaign and do some research! They're clearly centrally involved. Seven artifacts; one's been found, the rest haven't. Mining, gems, forges... A big, legendary hammer forged by dwarves, maybe by dwarves' ancestors, to restore balance... and it involves an orb. Everyone loves orbs. At Last a Lance for the Festering Boil Four Paths open the True Green Path Yet the Faint of Heart should best Turn Back If the Lyre Play Funeral Dirges Four paths suggests each 'path' involves either good/evil/law/chaos or fire/water/air/earth. I'm leaning towards the last one, espescially since so many of the circle phrases suggest elemental locations. The Fall Hidden Vales and Valleys lay in Mountain Shadows Far from View Thus the Enemy Awakens The Tree is first to Fall when comes the Axe Yet the First Free Remains to be Seen This part sounds like the game plan for the big baddie. Hidden valley/vallies in some obscure mountain range start things off. An important tree gets the axe, but not the "First Tree," which sounds like a creation myth if I ever heard one. Also, this Axe sounds like it would be the symbol/weapon of the baddie. The Failure Now One by ONe the Wooden Soldiers Fall Alone on the Battlefield O Plague, O Scourge The Farmer has not Hands A war, a plague, and suggestions that not everything is right... Wooden Soldiers may be Golems or Skeletons? Or maybe Treants? The part about the farmer sounds espescially dire, but I have no clue. The Turning Allies and Enemies cannot Pass A Meeting befor the Tower A Test of Metal After nearly losing the war because of the plague, the lost battle, and (I suspect) a crop failure, races ally together to fight the baddie and his army. But there's a catch--this tower. A test of metal may involve trial by combat. The Triumph A Smith begins to Craft An Undoing And finally, the good guys win. This smith, whoever he is, makes aforementioned Uber Dwarf Hammer Of Doom and you kill the baddie and all is saved. Wow. Tell your friend he can make a good prophecy. Please keep me/us up to date on this, via topic if that's OK or via PM if not. I gotta hear how this turns out and how close I was... :D |
| Adam50012-31-05, 10:30 AM | Im liking some of the interpretations you got there... the post has a lot of views, don't be shy drop your hat in the pot if you have an idea! Now for my personal interpretations (based partly on Grier's) The Prophecies of the Lamps of Heaven Prologue Long the Great Turmoil is set to rest Lost Stars shine once more The Painted Lady has done her deeds * Beneath the Altar of the Eldar Rambling across the Plains West of the sunsetting on the Desert sky Okay, the title is easy, though the meaning is unknown, its the name of the campaign... I think Prologue is a direct reference to these events taking place in the past, which is where my character happens to be. The Great Turmoil has me stumped, it could be the 'upcoming' drow schism, or any number of events including something involving the big baddie Tiamat. Lost Stars is also nebulous. It could be mention of the player characters, or at least the two that exist in the past (were both kind of 'lost' if I recall the other guy's backstory). The Altar of the Eldar is an LotR reference. It is some Elven location, probably literal. Rambling accross the Plains and West of the sunsetting on the Desert sky both refer to Location/Movement. Not sure how to take it into context. Part One Drums across the Northlands A dark messenger descends from the North Opening a rift in the earth Spelling DOOM * A wind for Yellow Sails Twin Dwarf-blades cleave the night Broken Manacles a Banner Makes * A hungry locust falls upon the barley Taking the best parts The running deer finds shelter from the rain * A Trickster finds the Path Halls of Stones, Halls of Bones Shadows crawl and slither * Titans at the Altar of the Serpent Giants underfoot Secrets of the Snake Sigil - Part 1-3 would seem to take place in the Present in relation to the past. Drums accross the Northlands could be a sign of a war coming. Dark Messanger may indicate it's spread. The rift could be a symbol of it's destruction... Doom could be our fate, or our fate to come. What confuses me with the entire past/present idea is that the second stanza seems to be happening *now*. A group of 6th lvl adventurers with two sword-weilding Dwarves (I think they weild swords) is in the process of helping the DM's pet npc rescue the characters of me and another player. Manacles breaking could be a sign of upcoming freedom. Yellow Sails is an unknown factor... the events may be out of place due to time-travel issues. The entire next stanza seems to deal with Famine. Hmm... War, Famine... sounds like the end of the world to me, now where are the other two? Undead Trickster kills the Dwarven race? seems unlikely for future verses. Pehaps just an important kingdom... regardless this is the Horseman Death on a smaller scale. An alliance of the Giants, Titans, and a Serpent Race? Sounds like war to me, but is this alliance good or evil? Im still not sure. Part Two A Journey Undertaken Circle exterior (starting at top, going clockwise, bottom of text allways points toward circle) Bread and Roses Sunset over the Anchient Forest Eagles' flyover the Stone Dragon The Home is quenched with the Blood of the Oak Lords The Hidden Past lingers in the Sun As Sand in an Hourglass The Passage of the Ages Refuge from the Storm In the depths of the Lonely Sea Pearls To the Horizon as far as the Eye can See The Goat-Headed Master Returns Home Nail Biter Salt-spray then Carpets of Green Steppes of Stone lead to Heaven Where the Hammer meets A man, now burrowing beast Finds the way in the black roots of the past A false Tomb needs not keys Circle interior Seven Artifacts, One Found, the Others Hidden Deep Dwarven Delve into the Heart of Stone The Brutal Pick cuts Our Mother's Bones Shards of Light Sparkle in the Night Winnowing in thier Furious Flight Fire Burn Bright-Earthheart Forge Blaze Molten Metal marks the End of Dark Days Echoing the Music of the Spheres The Anvil of Songs Everyone Hears Shaping Hammer, Shaping Truth Pounding on our Common Roots Spirits of Your Ancestors Taken from thier Rest Seeking the Balance to Redress And the Orb Unbidden Page Bottom At Last a Lance for the Festering Boil Four Paths open the True Green Path Yet the Faint of Heart should best Turn Back If the Lyre Play Funeral Dirges Whew, lets just say I agree with some of Grier's theories here, and that it may be the roadmap to the world's salvation (or if I go evil like Im thinking, it's conquering). The last Part is a mystery wraped in an enigma, its a situation that could apply equally to the Salvation or Destruction of the world. |
| Adam50012-31-05, 01:16 PM | This is the DM from said campaign posting under the player's handle... This online research and discussion takes the place of contacting sages and conducting other in-game research (avoids the boredom of making Gather Info rolls... Here is a suggestion of what would be available to the PC at Candlekeep: Forgotten Realms Timeline found on various websites. My Suggested Reading List found on the Yahoo Group. Have fun! lohmoderator aka DM5 |

Adam500 again... you seem to know a bit more than your letting on, especially with the Circle center. Care to elaborate? The DM said he allmost specifically named certain artifacts (if not named them) in that paragraph. |
| The Weave0501-01-06, 02:56 PM | Excellent stuff here, give your DM a pat on the back! Keep posting it, this is really interesting and well written :) And Grier, I wish you where one of my players, you have such a nack for this stuff! |
| Adam50001-01-06, 03:05 PM | Id still like anyone who has any ideas about the prophecies to post... I also made a twin post on the Forgotten Realms boards, if anyone cares to follow it over there as well. |
| feartheinvinceblehamster01-01-06, 10:26 PM | I recommend using some weird imagery sentence and then screaming "GET IT OUT! GET IT OUT!". Or start telling everyone the matrix has them. |
| The Weave0501-02-06, 11:21 AM | I shall offer my help valient young adventurer! (reads over prophecy) "Hmm...it appears as though this "Tree" it speaks of might be the Grandfather Tree found in The High Forest to the north of the Star Mounts...perplexing..." I think thats what it sounds like to me at least...could be wrong of course, so don't take my word for it. Sorry if thats no help, but I am not too good at this stuff... Good luck with this ;) |
| Grier01-02-06, 08:52 PM | Aha! The seven artifacts are listed in the center! Okay, here I go. Seven Artifacts, One Found, the Others Hidden 1. Deep Dwarven Delve into the Heart of Stone The Brutal Pick cuts Our Mother's Bones Ever read LotR? Remember Moria? The Dwarves's biggest mine will have this one. It sounds like it's a pickaxe. Our Mother probably means the earth. 2. Shards of Light Sparkle in the Night Winnowing in thier Furious Flight Winnowing is the act of seperating the wheat from the chaff. It can be done with wind or by beating it with a device curiously like a pair of nunchucks... Also sounds like it's made of crystal or diamond...That's all I got. 3. Fire Burn Bright-Earthheart Forge Blaze Molten Metal marks the End of Dark Days Hmmm. A forge needs an anvil, a hammer, metal to work, and a hot fire. I see an anvil and a hammer below. This sounds like firery hot metal, ready to be made into a weapon. 4. Echoing the Music of the Spheres The Anvil of Songs Everyone Hears Here's the anvil. A musical anvil, maybe? 5. Shaping Hammer, Shaping Truth Pounding on our Common Roots Here's the hammer. Sounds like it has a history. Or maybe the weapon it'll make has some historical significance? Maybe the name of the weapon will be "Truth". 6. Spirits of Your Ancestors Taken from thier Rest Seeking the Balance to Redress Spirits? I don't think he's talking about alcohol... Well, they sound like they're willing to help fix whatever's wrong. And the balance mentioned just reinforces my hunch about the elements. How many times have you heard about the elements being out of balance and you needing to fix it? Traditional RPG plot. 7. And the Orb Unbidden An orb. Not much info given here, except it's 'unbidden.' The only one listed that sounds like it's been found is the first one. It'll be with the dwarves, I bet you. And thanks for the kind words! :D |

That probably stands for something entriely different, most likely the creation of something. Just a thought. |
| The Weave0501-03-06, 06:09 PM | Im probably wrong, but... Did you know that in FR, one of the months is called "Hammer"? So it might not be talking about a hammer in the literal sense...but its just a hunch. I believe it's the month that marks where winter starts. Hope thats helps...although I probably just confused you more :P |

The Anvil of Songs could be some kind of dwarven war hammer or some similar object. Maybe a shield, or the word for the anvil the world was forged on? Ill think more aboout it and repost later. |
| Adam50001-07-06, 02:03 PM | Thanks to everyone who has spoken up so far, more information will as allways be appreciated, however a more important matter takes my immediate attention, and is something I need to determine before next week: How should I act upon this information, as unlimited in scope as it is? I have no doubt that is I do nothing, the DM's pet npc will see to the prophecie's release. So my only option is to act... but how? |
| Dead_Karma01-11-06, 08:32 PM | first off congrats to the dm. now for my piece, i read what you posted, no good at figuring that stuff out so i won't try. as far as how to act? wel, pick the responses the best you can. i'd have to say that you may or may not get it right, you may even through picking the wrong things stumble across the right answer. of course as far as any far reaching consequences for failing could also add a very interesting twist to the game, so once again, just do your best. |
