I have a Drow... I rather... greedy Drow. He has, subsequently over the course of the campaign eliminated almost all of the weaknesses in his defense, for he fears his fellow party members. He can not be seen except for by the most adept of spotters. He almost cannot be hit, except by the most guided blade. (70 AC, 20 % Miss Chance) He has defenses against spells because of his spell resistance, he is immune to mind-affecting effects and divinations. But that only scratches the surface of his defenses. The only thing he does not have a defense against, is old age and eventually death. He seeks to eliminate that weakness. Another party member has already become a Lich. Unfortunately, he's a Fighter, not a spellcaster, so Lich is out of the question. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way that he could achieve his desired immortal state... Any help would be appreciated. A life of servitude would really not suit him, but if it's a possibility it may be tweakable... His current power has granted him almost unlimited resources money-wise, so if it involves gold it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks!

Well, if you're not opposed to being undead, then why not just become a vampire?

One method that my BBEG uses is multiple clone spells, every other month or so he commits suicide to transfer his soul into a new body. It helps keep him young and virtually immortal as long as he keeps his clone levels up :P

If you're not a spellcaster, you could purchase a magic item that binds a spellcaster (Preferably a Wizard or Sorcerer) to your will semi-permanently (With a save that is almost impossible with you). You could have them keep making clones, and they can be Liches. Some ideas that come to mind are things like a Ring of dominate person comes to mind

Necropolitan from Libris Mortis, you take -1 level and in turn get the undead template. They, as intelligent undead, do heal 'naturally' over time but are still destroyed at 0hp. The ritual required costs relatively little...

If the magic is available, and he's smart enough, carefully word a wish: "I wish for physical immortality, no aging and disabilities of the flesh as the ages pass as I walk this world."

Sure, you're immortal by age, but you can still be killed. At least the flow of time won't be too pressing a matter by then, and you can still reap the benefits of aging. Still, now to get that wish.

I think, at one point, I pieced together an immortality Incantation using the Unearthed Arcana rules. While Immortality is a big deal IC, in the game itself, it's pretty meaningless (in 99 percent of games, you're either going to retire or get killed by the time old age catches you, ESPECIALLY if you're an elf), so I made it hard to find, but easy to do.

Ask your DM if there is a way he could quest for demi god/deity/demon hood

k
once in a campiegn I added Demigod PRC, basicly one would have to be 26th to start it but it was hell on XP, once you reached 5th level, you had 100% XP penelty (but you were a demigod) ask your DM if a PRC like that could be designed (in my PRC basicly you ended up with +25 to abilities, total, immune to aging, great saves, the ability to imbuse followers with magic, and one spciel power like greater weave for sorcerers or +10 BAB to BARBs)
this was a bit wierd one player got to 2nd level in the class.
sorry drifting,

you could go vampire as one said, you can get a psi to swap bodies with you (might be tricky).

the lich is your friend. offer him some gold for a wish spell, and when he asks you for the wish, say the following:
"I wish to have the lifespan of a lich."

BAM!
one of two things will happen:
1) you will become a lich.
2) you become immortal, because you, metaphorically, have the lifespan of a lich.

indeed I would stay away from wish if I could, I would go the path of the vampire if I could but getting a vampire to change you is another story, plus I'm not sure but I think if you become a vampire the vampire that changes you has complete control over you as if the dominate spell, until you kill them, over I think if you have more character levels then them they can't control you. I would say look through libris mortis and find what looks good if you can't find anything core. or let yourself become another undead, I had ghoul character but you lose everyhting when you become one, but then can start gaining levels again......may not be what you are looking for but as far as immortality really goes, unless you are going for godhood, undead is the way to go

and how did you get six arms on your drow

Since I don't want the limitations of a vampire (and the Lich character already had a vampire bloodline so it would become redundant), I'm going to take it in a wish... I'm not sure how I'll handle it, but my current thought is that the wish will be a tactfully-tweaked version of what Da Dinictus originally suggested I wish. "I wish for physical immortality; no aging or disabilities so that as time shall pass I will continue to walk the breadth of this world. I shall not die unless my body has been destroyed." The main question now, is what is wrong with the wish? Find a loop-hole for me that the DM may exploit... I think the key here is the fact that I slipped "of the flesh" out of the disabilities part. This would eliminate the possibility of any penalty for my character resulting from the wish... Hopefully that would be slipped in, in such a way that as the DM would not notice. The other minor tweaks were mainly cosmetic so that it all flowed, but walk the breadth of this world would hopefully prevent any hope for the DM of an imprisonment spell (which would prevent me from being able to walk the breadth of the world). Since I don't want to be a god and want to still have it possible for the character to die I threw in the "I shall not die unless my body has been destroyed." Please, show me where I have failed to cover all bases in this wish. I won't be satisfied unless there is at least one error...

Alright, 'give me the lifespan of a lich while I remain alive-alive-ho' :P

BAM! You are a disembodied brain with no str or dex scores, and a con of 1.

To the OP: What do you mean by "My body is destroyed"? Would losing an arm count as your body being destroyed (part of it is at least)? What if you die and are ressurected? Your body is destroyed, but it was fixed. Does that count as your body being destroyed?

Ask yourself: "Is what I'm asking for within the scope of the power of a Wish spell?" If the answer is no, the DM can and should find a way to twist your words. He doesn't have to be mean about it, but the benefit should be less than what you desire.

If the answer is yes, then the DM should grant the Wish, no matter the wording. (i.e., "I wish to never be impaired by old age" should be a successful wish."

"I wish for physical immortality; no aging or disabilities so that as time shall pass I will continue to walk the breadth of this world. I shall not die unless my body has been destroyed."

Well, take a look at the walking part. A scheming DM could make it that you are unable to stop walking, effectively drowning you once you hit a major water mass, or making you walk straight into lava, acid, some creature's mouth, etc.

He could make it that your mental state deteriorates, until you're a healthy, handsome, gibbering, blubber of a man.

Another note, some DMs use the rule of thumb that a wish with two sentences is more than one wish, so try to condense it a little (The comma is of excellent use here)

Perhaps something like "I wish for my mind, body, and soul to never age or faulter by magic or mundane reasons so long as time is in existence". Remember that the fantasy additions like 'so long as time is in existence' are usually the parts that DMs look at to twist things

Rather. BAM you are dead because a lich isn't alife and therefor has no lifespan.

Your dead, because a Lich is already dead, and has no "life" span.

Here's the way I look at it. Your Drow, you have 700 good years of life. In game terms that means you will more than likley meet your end in under a century of in game time, unless your dm likes to let lots of time pass in game. Few human characters are effected by old age in game as they tend to die, or get retired well before then. So in other words, while your character may be seeking it, there is no rush to achieve it. Who knows what you may discover by that time?

The biggest problem is that the campaign is very near an end. And I would like to have my current character there for future campaigns, so I'm hoping to give that a bit of insurance. My DM has been saying for a good long time that he needs NPCs for his world. And I would like to contribute. But I don't know how safe said contribution will be... I suppose becoming a Death Knight would be a good solution, though my character, while rather greedy, is neutral because of his morals (which are WAY too loose to be good). Basically the only moral there is don't kill without cause. And cause can be one copper in payment.

If one of my players phrased a Wish that way, I'd twist it only because it's stated like a legal document.

I recommend attempting to aquire some form of undeath, idealy one without any major drawbacks such as the vampire's sunlight aversion.
The necropolitan is actually quite good, as is deathless (eberron).
As for wishing, how about "I wish to be granted by the next wish spell cast upon me exactly what I desire, with no undesired effects whatsoever"... sure it requires two castings of wish, but at least you wont be turned to stone or something ironic like that.

Deathless is also in the Book of Exalted Deeds, so it's not setting-specific. (Not sure how you can acquire the template though.)

I believe there is another way to become imortal...or something close to it, there is an elixer that makes it so one year only counts as one day to your character...so in 10 years, your character has aged 10 days...or get some elixers of life and drink them when u are around 500-600 years old.

First become a level 10 alienist. An alienist technically never dies. Now make a wish to never be moved by a phusdo natural being unless you comand them to. You will never die unless you are killed. (an alienist is drug away by phsudo natural chreatures when they reach their max age) The only loop hole I see is if you have an especially devias DM who makes it so non-phsudo natural creatures come after you.

Its in the DMG (v 3.5) I belive its the solvent of timelessness. And it only works on things that used to be alive.

DM: "You, and none of your gear, is instantly transported to the Ethereal Plane. You are magically anchored to this Plane. Any wrinkles that were on your face disappear, and you feel the vitality of being in your prime. You will never be affected by age, and you are free to travel the Earth."

or...

DM: "You feel the vitality of youth; extreme youth. You are now three years old, and will never age." (In this case, the character was physically and mentally impaired by the effects of the spell, and not by the effects of age.)

Either those or the Wish just wouldn't work. My stance on Wish is that the Wishes need to be phrased simply. Throwing in disclaimers and clauses simply isn't enough to make a non-epic spell do whatever you want it to do.

Like I said above, though, I'm more likely to make the spell fizzle than do something mean. In this particular case, if one of my players said, "I wish to never die of natural causes", I'd grant the Wish since it isn't all that powerful in game terms, and it's stated simply.

I was thinking yesterday re:the lich thing that a perversion of the wish would be to tie the character's life force to one particular lich's life force; if that lich ever gets destroyed, the character dies as well. bonus points if it's J. Random Lich, so they have no idea which one... when they finally get tired of life they will probably wind up becoming a lich-hunter-killer, but a more amusing scenario is that J. Random Adventuring Party kills J. Random Lich and all of a sudden, J. Random Wished Character drops dead somewhere. :P

Go ahead and become a vampire. There are many ways around the daylight weakness. Dress in heavy clothing that covers all your flesh, including a mask (you won't be able to bite, but oh well). Get a magic item that gives you a continuess night's mantle spell in case someone rips off some of your clothing. Get endure sunlight feat from libris mortis so if your night's mantle gets dispelled you'll have a few rounds to get outta the light and can function in those rounds normally (no single action only crap). Plus if your next campaign takes place a century or two after this one in the same world, your DM can bring back your guy as an NPC with the Vampire Lord Template and then he will truely be a force to reckon with.
