Dark_beebles 08-01-05, 02:59 AM	lol My dm is probably gonna read this..but oh well.. Ok this is gonna be long, so i'll try to get to the point. Ok we are playing in FR and we are doing the dirty work of the city (kicking elves out of the forest so it can be choped down type of things). Well during our off time we were approached by a blood magus and said he would pay us something like 20k gold (5k each) if we retrieved some items for him..(evil, money? so we listened). Well we found out that he was looking for the eye/hand/skull of vecna (my dm converted it to FR /shrug). Well we found out its in under mnt. The whole payement issue and where the items were we shrugged it off and said no thanks (sounded like some scam). Well later on we decided to go to under mnt anyways (figured might as well die at 9th lvl instead of 6th)..Well we found the skull Later on. Thru some Divinations, contact other plane (got nat 20 when i went for a major deity shar..my patron diety) And Legend lore..that it was a fake made my cyric to fool people into taking their own heads for nothing (i laughed dm got us good bastid!). Well I decided since its fake..might as well spread some rumors and let the chaos and fun begin (figured to get some good or evil greedy people after it and just sack them for their gear..or at least pawn it off and let them deal with the heat). Well that worked twice..DM had our "boss" (magistrate of the city) step in and say that it was causing too much chaos (i guess my last whirl wind of teeth spell did the trick :eek: ). So..we learned about some people in skullport that might be willing to buy it..or at least ditch it there for someone else to deal with it. Ok here is the tricky part..We came to a enclave of red wizards...he offered us his enclave if we tricked some other wizard into using the skull (killing wizard above the "totem pole" so his position would advance.) So my party is in kind of a bind...Do we listen to the offer of this really freaked out wizard, and hope he keeps his end of the bargain? Or should we go and warn the other wizard of this plot? Either way it seems like a lose lose..Plus we cant keep the skull....too many people are coming after us (usually about 5-8 encounters a day now), Nothing too strong..but the numbers are slowly us down alot...lack of spells and healing are starting to take a toll on us. Also the target of this plot..is a (epic guy but our char never heard of this guy yet, being 3,000 + miles away from him). Zulkir of evoc... By the way if this helps, party is... (Sun/grey) Elf wiz10/sha3/am1 LE (shadow weaver of shar) Human warlock8/assasin5 (NE no god) Human ftr6/wod7 (ce loves orcus) and Warforged Psion13 (cn no diety). Any idea...or suggestion would be helpful...our party took a break when we heard this and talked a bit...and kind of stomped...seems like we gonna lose or die no matter what way we go.

digoraccoon 08-01-05, 08:25 AM	Wait, are you guys actually running around with the head of Vecna?! I believe he mentioned it's a fake. But no one else but the party seems to know this. If Dark_Beebles is looking to spread chaos, I'd suggest giving the "skull" to the higher level wizard saying it is the skull of Vecna and then spread rumors that the red wizards have the skull now. Hopefully that'll get people to stop chasing you. :)

It's based off of a very very old and very corny joke. Ofc, anyone with 2 ranks in Knowledge (Religion) would know better than that. :P Bluff: I own the head of Vecna! DM: Ok, roll a bluff check with a -20 modifiar. Oh wait, you fail. :p

Its just flavor..and 2nd its a fake skull of vecna../sigh like the hand and eye? like he needs the body parts as a diety anyways..... Also...Look at it from a real world stand point you think every commoner knows about every artifact? and what it does? and looks like? Look at gandalf with the 1 ring..4th highest wizard in the world and he didnt even know what it was...

Do a google on "head of Vecna". You should be able to find it, it's as famous as the good old "Eric and the gazebo".

LCD2YOU 08-01-05, 10:39 AM	like the eye and hand of Vecna, tell the players that by attaching the head to a neck stump, aka cutting off the original, the player gets all sorts of powers. See how many of them kill themselves trying to get the "power" only to find out that there are two "dead heads" and a lifeless and headless body.
Acefowl 08-01-05, 08:04 PM	Man, how many years ago did I read about the Head of Vecna in Knights of the Dinner Table? I didn't realize people still did that. Hey, if it helps, if you're with a group of people that want to put the head on, once they discover that it doesn't work, just tell them "You weren't fast enough." You could kill quite a few people this way. ...Hey, are you getting EXP for any of these kills? :P
