Hi, my name is Nick (as my username shows), and I've been roleplaying for a year or two.

I'm fresh out of ideas for a new character to create, (my old character died). I'm looking for a good, fun build for a character of 11th level. Our group consists of: a Level 14 straight Sorceror, a level 11 ranger, a fighter6/Order of the Bow Initiate6, and an unknown character of 10th level. We currently have the books: Complete Arcane, Divine, Warrior, Adventurer, Libris Mortis, and the core books (PHB, DMG, MM).

My idea of fun is something that does not suck. More specifically: something that will help out with the fighting, and has some flavour.

Anyways, thanks for any suggestions offered.

Just wanna let you know that you shouldn't have to feel like you need to be something for the party. Be whatever you damn well please, who cares if the party already has a bard? If you want to be a bard, go ahead.

With that, I'd suggest, being a barbarian. That would go good with your group. Hm... Human barbarian, I'd say. Give yourself a decent wisdom score. Don't play the bumbling barbarian clone that most barbs are, play one that... hm... belongs to some tribe of natives. You can add flavour by including some rituals in his every day activities that he learned from the tribe.

For example, maybe he insists on staying put on a certain day important to his people instead of going off and fighting some bad guys. The party can push and shove him but it's too important to him. I dunno, maybe it's like a new year for their calendar and they pray to the spirits of their ancestors? :)

Think of something like that and being a barbarian can be fun. That's just my suggestion, though, and if you don't like it I'm sure something more suited to you can come up.

I remember those first few years of playing when it was more about 'builds' than it was 'characters'. But still, let me give you then benefit of my advice.

Well first off, try to think of a personality you want to play. The easiest way to do this is to watch a lot of TV and films until you see a character whose personality you think might transplant well into your group. Then find a class that suits them and do your best to make that character as decent as possible within the confines of your concept.

I think Super guy's suggestion of a barbarian is a great choice. Think of any wildman from any programme you like and normally the barbarian class will suit it well. Oliver Reed playing Porthose (spelling may be wrong) in 'The 3 Musketeers' is quite a good candidate because the personality runs deeper than just being strong and losing his temper.

My latest idea (see link below) was inspired principly by an actor (whose name I can't remember) who played Mof in Human traffic and a bit-part in the remake of Mean Machine. I then expanded him using the 'Chav' personality template and, shazam, there he was.

I have the impression the party could us some character with the ability to heal or someone of a rogue type nature.

Perhaps you would find a druid/rogue an interesting choice. There is a PrC from the complete Adventure Daggerspell something (Not the Daggerspell Mage, thats arcane, theres a divine version too). You'll get wild shape, spells, and have some figthing ability.

Yes. If you want to look at it from the perspective of what would help out the party, then trapfinding and healing are what your group would benefit from most, as far as the standard D&D configuration is concerned.

Daggerspell Shaper isn't a bad idea. Druids are fun, and quite versatile. Try keeping the trapfinding skills maxed if you want to use them at all.

Right now, I have some wierd feeling that I want to play Something like Sammael from the Sword of Truth series...

I have no Idča of how to make him though, so I've not made him...

And I also want to play Rand'al'Tor from Wheel of time, but have not made him yet (I would have to experiment with the consept I would make him though)

Well if you're looking for a change in basic race you could try a half-dragon(other half elf?), they get an awesome str bonus, so they make pretty nice fighters, you could balance the healing by making him a cleric.... or go for a ranger and choose melee weapons for your focus, and as claw is treated as a simple weapon all the better (oh and don't forget to take the mulitattack feat <MM> )

CE Half-Celestial Warlock. Or LG Half-Fiend Paladin. Either one rocks as far as flavor goes..

I would ask if you got all the varents of fighting styles (Ranged, Melee, Spellcasting) and all your bases covered, arcane, divine, melee and traps... but I think the Barbarian suggest is great. Least for your group. A swashbuckling barbarian was featured in a really old Dragon and I always thought Porthos was a fun character.

Man, i really want to make a barbarian that rides a horse and throws javelins and then charges the enemy. My ssuggestion "Do what you want and be sure to rock the camels ***"
