recently the ranger in my group descided to stop playing so her character was taken over by a new guy. so far we have had one 2 hour session and it went badly. the new ranger accuses me of hogging the spot light because i usaly have ideas of what i want to go and do. now i could entertain the possibility that he is right if he wasn't so......... i don't know what.

this is an actual dialogue that happened. Note this is a school sponsered club

DM: as you walk up to the city gates a royal gaurd aproaches you.
Me: i go up to him and say "we need....."
Ranger (interupting): i tackle him to the ground and rape him.
every one else:.......
DM: are you sure?
Ranger: after i rape him can i kill him and rape him again? i realy want the lichloved feat.
DM:errrrr......
Me: when he goes past me can i make a REF save to grapple the ranger?
DM: YES. yes you can.
Me: (rolls REF save and makes it) ok so i grab him and throw him to the ground.
Guard (played by the dms freind): you there why did you attack that man? i will have to fine you 100 gold.
Me: um... he was going to attack you, see he isn't right in the head.
Ranger(out of game): see there you go agian stealing the spot light.

my problem here is that every time i tell him to stop acting like a freak he accuses me of trying to prevent him from getting some solo time.

I have the perfect solution!
Step 1:Kick the ranger out of the party.
Step 2:Replace him with a True Neutral Halfling Bard!
Step 3:Make a pathetic worm creature named after the ranger.
Step 4:Laugh.
Lol.I joke. You need to talk to the ranger and tell him that his actions are innapropriate. If he persists, kick him out.Sorry, onlything I could think of.
Silveus

10-23-06, 06:53 PM
unfortantly due to the fact that its a school club we can't kick him out unless we can provide lots of proof that he is acting poorly. this would just waste sesions.

Mmmmmmm.I dunno. Can't you just blast him with fireball and have the cleric say something like"My deity has refused to ressurect this wicked man."?Then you'd be free of him.

i am the cleric. and half the party is level 2 and half is level 3

How is that relevant?Just tell the teacher or somethin'.Or you could have me come and summon a demon to kill the ranger...And the next day give out muffins!I love being true neutral.

100 gold fine for merely grabbing a man? Your city is ridiculous!

Anyways...let him do it. He'll go to jail and you guys won't bail him out. He'll be executed and that will be that.

our Dm has a knack for making our lives pure pain when we let players die or get arrested. i already got arrested and had to pay 4000 gold to get out for attempting to stop the ranger and sorc from trying to rob a bank. the ranger stoped the robbery attempt to rape the guard when i came in and made them all leave. some how the guards came and got me but since i didn't do anyhting they didn't kill me......just fined me 4000gp

not sure which part you are refering too, but i assume its the bank robbery, or him going after the guard.

answers are that he said he was going to rob/rape a bank and i had to put on my armor and chase after him.

and pretty much every npc we meet he tries to rape and he makes this wierd face when he does it. i keep an eye on him when ever we meet some new npcs(in game).

If all the characters have an issue with this Ranger, then boot his ass out. Just because there's a PC in the game, it doesn't mean that the group HAS to accept him/her.

Ranger: I jump up on the stage of the tavern and start sodomizing the Bard on stage!
DM: Uhh.. ok *rolls grapple, etc*
Party: We all get up and leave the Inn.
Ranger: *In midst of rape* Hey guys! Where ya going?
Party: You're a freak, we're leaving. If you try to follow us, we'll make you wish you'd never been born. We hope you die a slow painful death. (The insults could be toned down some)
DM: Hey! You can't just leave him!
Players: Sure we can, this guy's a freak. *To Ranger's player* Dude, roll up a new character that isn't a complete psycho and you're welcome to join back up.

Wow, keep us updated on how this goes cause im curious.

Wish my school had a dnd club, oh well.

anyway, my advice is to just let him do as he wishes. your character can just report to the town gaurds everytime he hears of this guys plans to do something. Then you don't keep getting fined and he is out of the picture. Im assuming no one would want to pay his fine/break him out of jail.

Are you guys playing not only an evil campaign but a chaotic evil one? cause if not, no single member of your party would travel with someone who constantly rapes/murders on sight. I would just get the guy arrested, and then head out to the next town. And there is always the option of kill during your watch and then moving on.

this is his third character and rapeing or necrofeilia(spelled that wrong) or animal sex have been in all of them. the current character actualy aims for forced gay sex with undead animals(he goes all out). the letting his character die off thing hasn't worked since each new character just gets worse.

i think his.....wrongness stems from him thinking i hog the spot light
GaffeR

10-23-06, 07:56 PM
I think his wrongness stems from him being insane and immature. If his characters are causing the group strife, then boot him out. Or have the group boot you out, if you really are hogging the spotlight. If that's the case, there are more constructive ways of dealing with it.
Silveus

10-23-06, 08:07 PM
from his perspective i could be hoging the spot light but if i don't take the leader ship roll we just do wiht out one and no one makes descisions. i spent an entire sesion without speaking for anything but anouncing my rolls and through out the 2 hours there was no roll playing and every one just looked at each other.

the sorc went and read books
the fighter stayed in his room and sharpened his weapons (for 2 weeks)
the monk meditated.
the ranger (before crazy man) went hunting
and the paladin prayed.

finaly after 2 ingame weeks of this the dm just descided that the inn we were in caught fire and burnt down. and this forced the part into action

WTF! :uh-huh: There is something wrong with this guy. I'd tell the teacher/principal/whatever that he is acting out rape scenes in your games. I think that will take care of your problem. Well.... at least one of your problems. I don't think that's the only one by a long shot.

the problem with reporting him is that he could get the club banned. not to bring up a sterotype but our district is a very religious one and the existance of this club is shaky at best. having some one who runs around and commits mass rape is a sure fire way to get the club banned.

they will take what he is doing very seriously, he could get suspended and the club killed. even if they don't kill the club they will prevent us from meeting until they deal with him. i would perfer this to not happen

obviusly if the solution was simple i would have found it. i am asking the forums to see if there is something i missed, or some angle i missed.

and to not shoot down every idea i get i will try to post more info the first time around.

Tell him or the "responsible adult" who moderates your club that he is to immature for the game. He is not making it enjoyable for the rest of the group so he has to leave. Its people like him that give good (semi) mature players a bad name.

Also, tell him you are splitting up the club, tell him its because of him if you want, or make up a little white lie, then meet up with the other members of the game somwhere else at a diffrent time and make sure no one tells him about it.

But, if you must still include him...play a seperate game with him, one thats less strict maybe (or make him the DM) and play your current game at a diffrent time and place. That way hes still included and at the same time not screwing up your campaing.

If this is a school club in a religious area, get him booted and do it fast.

A guy who makes every character a serial rapist probably has problems that extend well beyond D&D, and you're only doing your own group a disservice by associating yourself with him. Will it use up sessions to talk to the teachers and get the paperwork done to eject this guy? Obviously, yes. Will it be worth it in the long run, since it will dodge the otherwise inevitable "OMG this one kid is using D&D as a sexual outlet and therefore the rest of the kids are and this group needs to be shut down because we're probably looking for an excuse to do it anyway"?

Well uh, I think you know the answer to that one.

One question. WHAT THE HELL IS A LICHED LOVE FEAT. You could say what is or isnt allowed, talke to the dm, or when the teacher isnt looking either smak him hard, or hit him with a text book. Just talk to the idiot and tell him to either grow up, or dont show up to the next session. If he does, every chance you get either ditch his charater or kill it. Dont even give him time to say his action just roll your attack when ever his charater appers. Oh and are you using book of vile darkness, cause I own libris mortis and I know there isnt a feat called lichedlove. If you are using Vile darkness in a very religous area never bring it again. If any of the teachers even looks at some of the pages they will probobly get ******. I dont own vile darkness so im not sure whats in it for sure, but a simple google search would put your club down the drain if they look into that book.

First piece of advice: Stop metagaming. Your character didn't know the ranger's intentions, and thus had no reason to tackle him.

Second piece of advice: Stop interacting with the character. Let him have his sick fantasies while the rest of the group go on adventures. Just don't let the player dominate the sessions with his insanity.

And none of us really blame you, but there are some pretty glaring signs that he has problems, be they just in his mind, or an actual situation at home. One way or another, he is looking for an outlet for whatever his issues are. He needs help. Telling a teacher that this is an issue, and a recurring one at that is a step in the right direction for him. You should also try talking to him, see if you can't spin a conversation around so that he tells you why he is doing this. Then tell someone who can fix it. But perhaps he is just really immature. How old is he? If he has been raised as a "latch-key kid", not to put down those who are, I am one at this time, but if he is, and he is learning about this stuff from TV shows, and not his parents, then that is the source of the issue, and it can be repaired by his learning some more about what he is seeing, and then reinacting in character.

If this is a school club can't you get him thrown out with the whole attempted rape in character thing? Surely the school wouldn't count that. But then I am from the bible belt and if they ever find out I play dnd there will be a burning cross in my yard by morining :weep: This guy sounds like a jerk. Tell the dm u don't want to play with him. That is the best way to handle this. I had a guy play like this one time. He was a foul mouthed prostitute loving cleric of obad hai. He didn't play again but if he had I was simply going to have him called into question within his church. Non sequitir, just tell the dm u don't want to play wiht him. If that don't work kill him and tell him not to make an evil undead humping character. jeez what a sicko.

Listen, this is simple. Tell an adault that you want him out. If they ask say he is being immature and ruining the game. If they press, explain to them first, your fears of them stopping the club if you tell them and explain that this guy is the exception, not the rule. Then explain all the nasty bits. The trick is with this is to have the adault in charge understand that D&D isn't like that, and won't be once this guy is gone. You have to make that clear.

@invaladuser
the lichloved feat basicly says..... "by commiting repeated sex acts with the undead the character gains dread powers"
it makes mindless undead veiw the character as a fellow undead and gives him some will bonuses. and at no point does the book ever find it's way into the club

@The White Sorcerer
1st i explained the metagameing thing.

2nd he is attempting to keep the spotlight from me by broadcasting his rape to every one. so he keeps bringing it up at every oppertunity.

@Fatalis_902
i think he is about 16 not sure. but i am pretty sure he is only doing this to grab the spotlight. there is no thaught behind it. its just....... here comes and npc. I RAPE HIM

@EberronMoses
to get him kicked out i have to tell the club teacher guy who then has to report it to a school administrator. and look at this from the schoosl point of view. This guy is role plaiyng a necrophilac rapeist and using feats from the book of vile darkness. that sets of some red flags. and the book of vile darkness is banned from BEING in the club, refrances to it are ok. so by using feats from it we aren't breaking rules but it still looks bad.

@Tiefling_Warlock
thats how i will handle it if i can't find another solution that doens't involve teachers and stuff

If that fails punch his lights out.

Normaly this would be an immature aproach, but your still at school so you are immature. No offence. (well the ranger sure is.)

The DM is as much to blame as anyone. He seems to me to encourage the rangers behaviour.

We had a simerler problem in our party, our barbarian wanted to rape stuff. we could not top him. The DM had him arested, we bailed him out with his own savings. We paid the guards for the shackles that were already on him, the the entire party kicked the tar out of him.

I had a problem like this before, my party had a half-orc that would rape anything, dogs, the dead, anything. First we asked himto **** off with rape, after he continued we ambushed him (the orc no the player) and cut it off, for lethal demage of course. Then he went from annoying to complete ******* by attaching armor spikes to his crotch and then dry humped creatures to death. (Which was funny but then annoying) we talked to the dm and decide that for one whole session we would just torture the orc the whole. And we did over and over again, (the dm had made a npc with ressurection spells on him and made the device we straped the orc to a d35, which was impossible for the orc to break out of) everyone but the orc guy had great fun. Since most people don't like wasting so much time to just **** someone of you could always go and do some of the following...

1 - Get the party to rape the rogue for lethal deamge (give him a taste of his own medicine)
2 - Get the DM to give the rogue some horrible STD next time he rapes someone (After raping so many bodies unprotected you could protest that it was a matter of time before it would happen)
3 - Call Devine INtervention in which a god converts him
4 - just kill him

no he isnt.

all there is too it. he is playing an evil character and any good character would come to the defense of thos ehe is trying to rape. as your adventurers comeing to their defense is almost certianly violent.

Is he just saying "i rape the npc"? and then it happens, or are there long drawn out combat rolls. ok AOO grapple attempts, , pin, hold for 4 rounds of grapple, ect? or is it just him saying "i do this" and its done? if its all rolled out and your character just stands there for 10 rounds as he rapes someone- 10 rounds = a min by the way- your probably not a good character, at best being CN. What do the other NPC's do as the guy right over there is being raped? i would think they would either help him defend himself, or at least get the gaurds. Bring this up to the dm next time, and if he dosnt bring gaurds, assume all crime is legal in this city. Do whatever you want here its ok.

You might tell the teacher that the player "keeps on making dirty jokes". This is essentially what he's doing, and would make more sense to the teacher than a full description. After the teacher tells you to give details, tell him/her that the player keeps on saying that his character's raping everybody.

This should give the teacher a first impression that says "misbehaving kid is bugging all the other kids" rather than "D&D is a game in which it's apparently OK to rape people".

By the way, kudos to you for playing an evil guy with a code of honor. Most people would just assume "Oh, my guy's evil, he wouldn't mind that people are getting raped" and completely forget the "Lawful" (honorable) part of it.

Can your character turn his in to the local law enforcement?

I love this story! It's going in the sig. I'm gonna fix up the spelling mistakes; hope you don't mind.;)

To the OP: the Ranger is not Chaotic Good, he is Chaotic Evil, and of the worst kind. He is more than evil, he is Vile. Anyone in my games who rapes, whether I'm the DM or not, is booted, and with the utmost fury. I will do whatever I can to remove that person from the room, and, if necessary, the building.

But that's just me.

My advice is to first talk to him. Try this. It's canned dialogue, but it should work:
"You know (friends name), I enjoy playing D&D. I'd like you to continue playing with us. But the way you play is not acceptable. We are all upset with the way your character acts while we are playing. You have to change the way you play, or we can't let you play with us."

This gives him the power of choice, while empowering you. It gives him a reward (I'd like you to play with us), while clearly stating your demands. Instead of leaving alternatives for him to argue over, he has to choose: shape up or ship out. Once he sees this, he may choose as he wishes. Either way, you win.
Having said this, do not allow him to seek an alternative. You have to stick to your guns, no matter how ridiculous he may try to make you feel. Just keep with the same choices, and eventually, he will have to choose.

And if worst comes to worst, do tell a teacher. Even if the D&D club gets tossed, look at it this way: as long as he's there, are you really playing? Are you having fun? There's no point in playing D&D if it's not fun. In fact, the DMGII puts that rule before rule 0.

10-24-06, 02:06 AM
Well I would say you have two fundamental problems:

1) You have a very immature player who thinks he can get away with anything.

2) You have a DM who is prepared to let him.

Your possible solutions are:

1) Explain to your DM that if he does not reign in this player by having his character incarcerated the next time he tries one of his dumb acts, you WILL report his behaviour. Then do it if he doesn't, because reporting his behaviour will be less bad for your club than if somebody finds out what he is doing and you HAVEN'T reported it. Make sure EVERYONE in the group knows this. If they put on you, make it plain that if they cannot be responsible, you can be - after all, you aren't the one enacting necrophiliac rape scenes.

2) Ask the teacher to sit in on a session.

2) Given it's a school club, I'm afraid maturity levels will vary :(
3) He's either got some personal issues he cant deal with or is deliberately being disruptive (see 2) )

The usual approach to disputes is to talk it out, (see my sig). edit:I just noticed my sig doesnt appear to have survived the board migration :( - have added the basics to the bottom of the post
He may have issues, which is bad for him and he needs proper help, or he could simply be an asphalt.

It may be he simply isnt comfortable with the roleplay side of dnd - I know many people can feel silly when they first start playing their character proper (As opposed to "I use my class skill to x"). Again, talking may help.

If that fails, the DM has a choice : 1 disruptive immature sex obsessed teenager (ok, every teenager is distruptive, immature & sex obsessed - joke!) or the rest of the party.

Another idea is : you know the people in the club, is there no way you can invite the non-offending players round to each others and play dnd in private?

added:
Try these - in the order listed, until one solves the problem
1) Talk to the person in question
2) Talk to the DM
3) Talk to the party (use player 0 if the DM refuses to help - player 0, the ultimate counter to dm0 - a dm with a player count of 0. Bad DMs dont like players to know about player 0)
4) Remove said problem person from session / campaign / dnd altogether
5) Remove yourself from the session / campaign / dnd altogether

You should probably be able to handle the problem without getting the school authorities involved. I doubt you'd have much trouble convincing the rest of the group to refuse to play with him. Have the group tell him that his behavior has been disruptive and offensive, and that he is no longer welcome in the club. Also make it clear that if he goes to the school authorities to try to somehow force his way back into the club, you'll tell them about how his rape and necrophilia fetishes were ruining the game.

I'm sure he won't cause too much of a fuss; otherwise he'll become known around the school as either a necrophiliac or "the guy who's such a dork, he got kicked out of the frickin' D&D club".

Me: when he goes past me can i make a REF save to grapple the ranger?
DM: YES. yes you can.
Me: (rolls REF save and makes it) ok so i grab him and throw him to the ground.

Since when do you need to make a Ref save to start a grapple?

Saves are to avoid, not to instigate.

Just a few thoughts for the OP to consider:

1) You need to tell a teacher IMMEDIATELY the problems this twit is causing. The club is far less likely to be tossed if you are the ones reporting problems to the faculty. I can almost guarantee that at some point one of the parents is going to hear about this guy, and go to the school demanding your club be banned. And the school will do just that.

2) What do you mean, the BoVD is banned from the club, but references to it are not? If the book is banned, you need to explain to the DM that means feats, classes, etc are also banned. Part of your problem is this goober just wants the lichloved feat; if it's clear (from the DM) he'll never be allowed to get it, it may help. Now, if I were on the faculty, I'd say that you were violating the trust of the school by using feats, etc, from a book your club had assured the school would be banned.

In the situation you described, if you are anything but completely forthright in how you present your group, you will be axed by the school. Pulling the "BoVD is banned but references to it aren't" is going to torque a lot of people's privates, if you catch my drift. If it's banned don't allow anything at all from it in your club.

3) On (I think) page 4 of the BoVD is this one warning: Do not let the players use this book, it is for DMs only. (Something to that effect).

i've had a bit of experience about iappropriate player even though i've only been playing since the summer. Both were CE characters, and they would commit random acts of crime (one was a rape), and it ****** me off too. Its not needed, and wastes time. Here's what id suggest:

1. Since your in school, get a teacher. If its rape, if your and a few others made a big deal out of it, the player would probably be kicked.

2. Talk to the player about it, but be composed about it. If he wont listen, and refuses to play along, got with number 1.

3. this i a guess, but i cant be certain. He seems like a person that wants attension, but dont give it to him. If you and others ignore him, he could possible go away.

Okay, to all those saying the disruptive player needs counselling, I doubt it. I suspect he's craving attention and has fun disrupting the game, RPing rape and necrophillia is going way over the top and pretty much guaranteed to get a reaction.

I'm guessing he's probably not very popular, probably doesn't have many friends and is using D&D as a social activity rather than being interested in the game but he obviously lacks the social skills and/or maturity to realise that all he's doing is ruining everybody's fun and getting negative attention.

It sounds like he wants to have the spotlight all the time for himself. If he does this and gets a response then you're playing into his hands. I'd be more inclined to ignore him and just go on with the game. Talk to the DM, encourage him to just keep the game going. Player stops to rape somebody? Rest of the party leaves, keep going with the adventure. The player wants to disrupt things again because you're not paying attention to him? "Sorry, you aren't here, you're back raping the guard".

Also, BOVD is likely banned for a reason, it's right on the cover that it's for mature readers only (ie, not this guy) which usually translates to not for under 18 (ie, any of you by the sound of it). The book being not allowed means no rules from it are allowed. Come down hard on this, present a united front with the player, explain that the school administration doesn't want you using the book because it's for over 18 readers and by using material from it you're risking having the club banned (and you are).

Second, there's no way this character is good, what you're describing is clearly chaotic evil, which actually works for the player if he does want to use Vile content because it usually requires you to be evil. Seriously though, I don't think he has any interest in pursuing the feat, he's just saying that so that he can justify what he's doing in game.

What I'd recommend you guys do is find a way that you can bring the player into the game and have him contribute in a constructive way. It sounds like you need to do that anyway with all the players. It sounds like you're one of the few people interested in moving a story along and that's part of the problem, maybe encourage some of the other players to keep things moving as well so that you aren't seen as stealing the spotlight all the time. If he's bugging all of you then elicit the help from the other players to contribute more so that you can achieve that.

If you can bring him into the game then great. But if not, I would recommend talking to a teacher because as has been mentioned before, it's the best way to go and you're less likely to be banned if you do that then if a teacher happens to come by and overhear what's being played out. If you take the other steps first and can explain to the teacher that he continues to use inappropriate material (that's banned by your club) and to introduce inappropriate topics, despite being asked to stop then it shouldn't be a problem.

Barring that, try to make arrangements to get together out of school, it will make it a lot easier for you because then you aren't associated with the school or its rules, just don't invite him, let the club disband and that's it.

in character i probably should kill or turn him in or something. but out of character i realy don't like killing or ruining other's characters.

also if i am forced to hurt him a little bit and i use my heavy pick there is like no chance of him surviving. i do 1D6+11+4D6 to him. he only has 26 hp

Listen, this is a problem that is with the player not the character. Although there are alot of mean things you can do to a person in DnD, none of them will help. This player clearly has mental issues and is doing these things for attention. Attacking him gives him this attention and encourages him to do it more. Here's what I think the most mature and wisest thing to do:

First, unify your co-players and DM on the subject that this is a problem. This can't be done unless they are behind you. If some of them waffle, or don't want to cause conflict, then remind them that he is doing things in game that are not appropriate to school standards. If he does not stop and a staff member finds out about this the club could be canceled. I assume none of them want this.

Second, (here's where most people skip) approach him as a group. Explain what exactly is inappropriate about his behavior. Explain that he needs to play in a more mature manner. A key to this is to try not to insult him, and try to at least be civil about how you say things. Again, explain that his behavior could potentially get the club canceled and that no one wants to see this happen. Make it clear that you are not kicking him out of the group, but instead addressing problematic behaviors. (Remember, hate the sin, not the sinner). Be firm in addressing the problem and making clear that it cannot continue.

Thirdly, as a group let him continue playing with you. Don't expect miracles, it's likely that he'll still act immature in some manner. However, after 1 or 2 sessions point out (if he is making progress) that you can see he's making the effort and you appreciate it. Remember, he needs attention so to keep him doing good things you might have to pat his back as he gets better. AT some point he either won't need it anymore or you wont think about it.

IF he does not get better, you need to talk to him as a group again. If you can see some change in him, its fair to address the problem again. IF you can't see any change then you need to say as a group "We've addressed this in a mature and civil manner and you aren't listening". Tell him that you (as a group) do not want him to come anymore. Make it known he's not welcome. If he begs for another chance, I think its fair to let him back on a probationary period of about 3 sessions. He might be more willing this time. If that's the case, reread the previous paragraph.

Ultimately you have no physical power to make him leave. But if he still shows up, you can ignore him. This requires the DM's help, obviously, but if you stand together the lack of attention should make him leave.

If he doesnt and some how makes things worse, you really have no choice. At some point you may have to take it to a staff member and address the problem.

Just remember: Act mature, be civil, stand together, be giving with the player, and have good communication skills.

Despite the excuses you may have, there is no other way than this one.

@theotherdraxen
he claims is he is chaotic good. apperently his character thinks that rapeing and all is actualy a good thing.....

It doesn't matter what the character thinks, good and evil are defined absolutely in D&D. Obviously an evil character is going to not have a problem with his own actions or think they're good (they further his means or he derives pleasure from them, etc). The bottom line is that rape is defined as an evil act, randomly killing people is an evil act, I'm not sure if necrophillia is defined as evil or not because there's a whole lot of things you can do to a dead body that aren't evil in D&D terms, at the very least it's nonlawful as it's defiling a corpse which I'd say certainly goes against most codes of behaviour.

Okay, you're better off outright banning it. I'm not a big one to pull the whole under 18 thing but school administration will.

There's something else that's been bugging me for awhile, you described the party as being predominantly evil aligned. This is where things could get sticky, you're playing an evil campaign and making some evil acts okay because of it so you then wind up with the problem or 1 player committing other evil acts and it sounding hypocritical when you say the evil your characters do is okay but what he's doing isn't. I'd recommend banning evil PCs (and that includes characters who's actions are evil, regardless of what his alignment says) and play a party made up of good and neutral characters. I'm not just saying this for this particular situation but it's been my experience with roleplaying for over 20 years that evil PCs in a party tend to cause problems. An evil campaign with everybody LE or NE can work if they're all working toward a common goal but throwing CE into the mix (which is how this player is playing his character, regardless of what his sheet says) is asking for trouble.

I would have to go with the recommendation to ban evil characters, and definitely the BoVD (this means both in name and in content). In the context of a school sponsored event, you are just asking for problems.

Beyond that, I'd recommend working with the teacher sponsoring/overseeing the club to establish a code of conduct for the club. Certain types of issues, like sex, rape, etc really don't belong in a game officially sanctioned by the school. Being proactive in this area can help to cover the club. I can almost guarantee that if the principal were to walk past and hear a person talking about how he was trying to rape a guard, the club will at best turn into a game of giving the most flowers to kobolds, and likely just getting the whole thing banned. Whereas if its clear that such action is against the rules, then the offending student will likely be the only one to get into trouble.

the teacher is running a different game.

And do you think i was happy about this group? i came to the club late the day when the groups were made so i got stuck with the one that half the players are new and the DM is new. the one guy descides to be a paladin of heronious in a evil mostly worshiping hextor party. i got the ranger who played a hippy before being replaced by gay, dead animal raping man (yes he does all of that). the monk has play practice so he hasn't been there in like a month so i run his character. the sorc hasn't done enough for me to judge him yet and the fighter is fine.

half of the time i have to correct the dm on something simple; "no, His STR modifier does effect how much damage he doesn with his great club" the only pro to this group is that i basicly get to do the fun parts of DMing without the crappy parts. and because i can make the group work. at level 2 he had us fight like 4 Cr 5 monsters at once. if i hadn't got him to give me 7000 gold before that we would have all died (that god for Cure light potions).

all of the other groups all have over 10 people in them. so if mine goes down the drain i just can't play and thats not something i want.

Given the rules as you have quoted them, virtually all of the BoVD material is inappropriate. It is all sex and drugs and violence. A few of the monsters and such might pass by, but anything that a player will take is going to be outside of the rules.

As a larger comment, the teacher really shouldn't be DMing a group and letting another group do their own thing. He really should let another student (or two given the number) take over running a group(s).

If you don't want to kick the troublemaker out (and he is clearly either mentally disturbed or there just to cause trouble) and don't want to call the teacher on him, you could always volunteer to run a game for some of the other new players.

edit: Took a long time with my reply: Anyway, you said that the other groups have something like 9 players each in them. Frankly, that's too dang many. 5 or 6 should be the max that any one group should have. Combat takes too long and you spend way to long waiting to say or do something even out of combat. I'd at least raise the possibility of breaking into more smaller groups.
Frugal

10-24-06, 08:12 PM
okay here's the deal, you posted with a problem that a lot of people can identify, you're playing in a school group and you have one guy who's ruining it for you. A lot of us have been there. Being a school club puts you in a little more of a difficult situation because it can be tougher to get the player to leave.

So great, you get a lot of advice (some of it good even) on how to deal with the player both within the group (trying to change he behaviour) or by getting rid of him (go to a teacher).

Now instead of taking any of that advice you continue to provide more details that were unstated before that change the situation, complain about the advice you were given or immediately dismiss it, complain about being seen as young (I'm with the other posters who have said it sounds more like you're dealing with a group of 12 year olds, not 18 year olds). Honestly I'm surprised you're still getting any positive response.

Here's the deal, you have 3 options:

Get the player to change his behaviour
Get rid of the player
Leave

That's really what it comes down to. You either work with the player, get rid of the player or take yourself out of the situation. There is no 4th option, so pick one of the above.

Now it sounds like you're unwilling to unify the group to try to work with the player and/or have no confidence in your DM's ability to control the player so that's out.

You have great grounds to get rid of the player given the newly revealed rules/code of conduct for the club, great this should be a no brainer. You made it sound like you were the only gaming group and were worried about having the whole club shut down, if you have a gamer teacher sponsoring the club and other groups I doubt that's going to happen, it's more likely to be seen as a problem with 1 player, he's breaking the rules, he's gone. But, wait, you've revealed that you like the BOVD for your own use, but it sounds like it's largely or entirely against the club's rules so to me it sounds like your dilemma isn't getting the club banned it's that you know you're breaking the rules too but nobody else in your group is going to turn you in and you don't want to draw attention to it. In fact, it sounds like you're perfectly willing to break the rules as long as it's in your favour but once somebody else starts doing it and it grates on you, oh now it's a problem. Well guess what, part of maturity is learning that the rules are supposed to apply to everybody, so suck it up and ditch the BOVD material and if the player still acts the way he does kick him out.

Or your 3rd option, leave. It sounds like there's other groups to play with in the club, so see if any of them have had players drop out and have room. It does sound like some of the groups are really large so maybe you could convince the teacher or the players to trim down a couple of the other groups and create a new group. Problem solved.

Well it would be except that it does really sound like you are trying to hog the spotlight. It's one thing to correct the DM every now and then but it sounds like you're doing it on a regular basis, let the DM make mistakes and point stuff out after the fact, maybe rewind things and do things again in a really egregious case. Don't use it as a way to scam equipment that's not appropriate for your level. Don't ask for equipment that you know full well isn't appropriate for your level and then use it as an example of how bad the DM is when he gives it to you, he doesn't know any better it's your responsibility as someone familiar with the rules to not take advantage of it to get things you shouldn't (again, there's that maturity thing again). If you do know the rules well enough you know damn well that the ranger is CE, don't let him get away with saying he's CG just because then you can deal more damage against him. Hell, don't fight him in-game at all, it only provokes things. Your problem is with the player, not the character.

So, either work within the rules and try to change things or find a new group and be prepared to deal with the fact that they might expect you to obey the rules.

Or, start your own group outside of school where you can break the rules all you want, as long as you can find players that are game.

this is his third character and rapeing or necrofeilia(spelled that wrong) or animal sex have been in all of them. the current character actualy aims for forced gay sex with undead animals(he goes all out). the letting his character die off thing hasn't worked since each new character just gets worse.

@Frugal

1st i can't take any advice yet since the club isn't until tommorow but i am looking over my options and how to go about each one.

2nd yes i keep bringing up more details because i tryied to learn as much about the situation before hand. i didn't post all of it because i wasn't sure what was important and i also didn't want to make a mile long post in one sitting. as new things come up i give more info to clarify it.

3rd i didn't complain about the age thing i was just interested. i am sorry if it came out the way but i was just intrigued by it.

4th yes i am pretty sure the DM wont do anything and i am not sure if i can get the other players to side with me.

5th & 6th i was nervous about the reporting thing yes. some one who keeps acting out serial rapist scenarios is sorta a problem and i was concerned that the club could get in trouble. and yes i do use the BoDV and i know i am exploiting a loop hole. the banning of the BoDV is a better safe than sorry thing. of course i am concerned that i could also get into trouble by association, so could other people in the club. however i don't have a problem with any one using the BoDV for feats and stuff, just acting out scenes of it.

7th there is no way to force him out other than bring it to the teachers attention. which is not somehting i realy want to do, i will if i have too tho.

8th your correct i could do get another group going or join another.

9th i don't point out the DM's mistakes, he asks me and then i tell him the answer. which isn't a bad thing it just gets a little tiresome.

going on with this. the dm had already given me, with out me asking, a +4 axiomatic, unholy heavy pick. i relized that i way outshined the other players so i came up with a plan to get some equipment for the rest of the party. even after a huge set back and my plan became aperent to every one all the dm through me was a level 1 rouge assassian and let me continue with plan. after i got the 3 +5 ring sof protection and the sword i gave them to the rest of the party so they would do better. in a realy wierd way i was trying to re balance the party so i didn't stay in the spotlight

10th i keep telling the player he is CE he just tells me he isn't. and he also tries to rape the other party members. if i ever find him attempting to rape me i am going to kill him. the Dm is contet to let him be CG.

that said. i do apreciate the help every one has given me and i am sorry i sound so negative. i will figure out what i am going to do soon

First, get a covered wagon. When he shows up the next session, have the entire party grapple him and chain him in said wagon. Travel about with him confined within the wagon. Randomly comit horible acts to his character. Go to the worst parts of town and pimp his services out to the freaks you find. If he likes it, he has serious problems. If you like it, and you will, he will probably get the message.

Never tell any officials that such things are going on in your D&D club. In the early 80's, a group I played with in high school had a player with all these problems and more. Even a hint of this kind of thing nearly got D&D banned by one of the teachers. Finally, we told the guy that a wizard cast a spell on the player of his character. Whenever he showed up, his new character turned into a frog. Luckily the DM went with it and four sessions later the freak stopped showing up for D&D.

Look, I'm 18. Most of my players are between 16 and 19. A couple are below 14.

Your options have been presented to you, and still you remain unwilling to confront the situation.

I'm no psychologist, I'm no counselor, but I can tell you now I know what happens when you aren't willing to confront a problem. Don't make my mistake.

If you break a leg, you go to the doctor, you don't hope it will heal on its own and reject any help that others offer, you face the problem and deal with it.

You have to stand up to this guy. Face it, you aren't having fun with him there. There's no point in playing D&D if you aren't having fun. You may as well stop going if he's going to be there. Tolerating him will not bring change. He's ruining the game for you and your friends. If you put off doing something about it, your problems will grow. Trust me, I know how bad it can get. By procrastinating, you only extend and exaggerate the problem, making the solution harder to achieve.

If you do stand up to him, then you'll feel a lot better. The group will feel a lot better. Just take any one piece of advice offered here (I'd recommend CowMasterTrojan's plan, it's well thought out), and go with it. Don't make my mistake. Face your problems. If it means the end of things, you have to realize that you aren't enjoying them as they are and, frankly, D&D isn't everything. Even if the club is dissolved, then you'll be okay, and so will everyone else.

There is no magic button to solve the problem at hand, only you can change anything. There is no alternative. There is only one way out, and that's the way you carve for yourself.

I'm not trying to dismay you, I'm trying to help you and encourage you. Don't make my mistake. You've got to be able to look this kid in the eye, and say "No."

BTW: You're stronger that you think you are. I'm not being condescending, I'm speaking from experience. You've stood up to everyone on these boards, despite what they've thrown at you. I can tell, you got more guts than you think you do. Standing up to this kid is the only way to prove it.

I'm still inclined to think your situation is different, you have a large club with several gaming groups, a sponsoring teacher who plays D&D as well and an established code of conduct, I think you're good. You go to that teacher and explain that the guy keeps RPing sexual content, leave it at that for now. If the teacher wants more details then explain that he routinely rapes NPCs and attempts to rape the PCs, then maybe get into the necrophillia if you feel it's necessary (probably not). Leave the BOVD stuff out of it.

The school might be conservative but obviously the teacher's had to deal with at least some of that to get the club allowed. So I doubt 1 bad player will shut it down, it'll simply be a matter of having 1 bad player.

Things may have changed alot in 25 years in high schools. I can not say how such a thing would go over in today's climate.

I have met some players that continually make weird characters 'Just to let off steam', but are perfectly normal. Chances are, this kid has problems in his life and feels the need to do it. Its like a person who feels they have no control of their life, so develop an obsessive compulsive disorder to try to control things around them. Some people handle the stresses of life just fine, some find an outlet for the frustration so it never gets too far, while others just get worse. If you find out a bit more of his personal life, you may be able to judge if he is letting off steam or crying for help.

now, what don't you just talk to the others players ask them if they DO like this little bastard in the game, if they do, then you should leave them and play with someone else, (or maybe, become a DM); if they dont, then conspire with 'em. make some kind of plan, betray him, make him suffer and repeat. if your GM complains, tell him to shut the **** up. then take your character sheet and throw it at his eye, (be sure the shape of the sheet CAN do some damage) and then leave dramatically the room.

or just talk, we're all people, we like to talk, but few can listen. so if you'r words are falling into deaf ears, get the hell out of there, move it, and go somewhere where you fell fine or make your own campaing, and keep him away, or ask another GM to join his/her group.

There are alot better suggestions here, but I'll post an odd one. Let him do it. And make him roleplay the details. Try to get the DM to straight-faced describe realistic reactions of a forced sexual encounter. Have every other player quietly watch the scene, but have your characters not present. And most importantly DO NOT LAUGH. No one can even crack a smile. It would probably be so severly embarrassing that he couldn't get through the scene, and he'd never try again.

As for other players, try to get them interested in their characters motivations. Maybe ask them questions about their lives in character.

Either this is a totally hilarious troll post (given the number of responses) or this D&D group is full of people that are totally wacked.

Let's see. You are worried about getting in trouble with some adults, but you are playing a group of evil characters? Strike one. Secondly, you are using things out of the BoVD and you are worried about getting in trouble with adults? Strike two. Third, you don't want to tell a player in school that rape, beastiality, and necrophilia are inappropriate? Strike three. And you don't want to tell the sponsor the club, who had to agree to sponsor it in the first place, thus has less reservations then "standard" adults? Strike four.

Just for posterity, let's assume this whole things is not total B.S. (which I am convinced it is). Here is what you do. First start over without evil characters at all. Second don't use anything that isn't core material, especially "mature" material. Third if the guy keeps up the behaviour tell him to quit it or you will report his behaviour as it is against the sexual harassment code of conduct in EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL SYSTEM IN THE COUNTRY. If he calls you a pansy or a tattle-tale or what have you just brush it off, "I'd rather be a tattle-tale then some sick idiot who likes to have sex with dead dogs." Fourth, to get more responses out of the other players, instead of saying, "Let's do ..." Ask them, "What does Marv the Warrior think we should do in this case? Gog the fleet, what about you, what do you think about what Marv said." It is often easier to respond to questions then to initiate actual dialogue. This shifts the attention from you to them as you are the facilitator.

dm0 is the dms word is final & absolute, they can do what ever they want. (Although I did find an interesting line or two in the dmg that affected this - cant remember the page or anything, but basically said, the rule changes needed to / really should be logical and reasonble)

player 0 is nothing says you must play with that dm (player count 0). Many people think it is better to play a game than no game. This is the wrong attitude as you'll end up miserable wasting time doing something you dont enjoy.

A dm can rule 0 all he likes - but if he has 0 players, it means nothing.

Bad dms dont like to publicise this one as it is a very powerful counter to bad dm0ing.

I'm in Canada but I suspect it's the same in the US (where I believe the OP is from). Most high schools allow for extracurricular clubs to be formed by students and/or teachers. Usually what this entails is being allowed access to a classroom during a lunch hour or after school (which are often locked outside of class time). Most schools require a teacher to "sponsor" the club which also implies a certain amount of supervision and covers liability issues. The actual level of supervision can vary drastically. When I was in high school my friends and I formed clubs in my last 2 years of high school which while on paper covered an activity were more of a way for us to scam a classroom at lunch time where we could hang out because we didn't like eating in the noisy cafeteria and we couldn't eat or talk very loudly in the library (the only other area open at lunch times). We got our english teacher to sponsor the clubs and were left to our own devices (he trusted us).

Now from the OP's descriptions, it sounds like he's fortunate to have a teacher who plays D&D (and who probably formed the club) and a large enough group that several gaming groups are going on simultaneously. The downside is that it sounds like the teacher is DMing one of those groups so there's not much supervision of the other groups.

First: Don't stop him! Let him start - every time.
Stopping the problem before it starts makes you the bad guy.
His first action is to move, then initiate a grapple.

THEN you all get to act. You can initiate a grapple to try and stop him but either way it's going to take him a few turns to begin his rape, much less twice rape and kill the man.

But either way this kid is going to get himself in his own problems. If he's a good enough friend and party member, you all can help him. If not, OH WELL.

Second: you're Dm is crazy. You shouldn't have been able to come up with that kind of bail money.

Third: Explain to the ranger everyone is entitled to act, yourself included, ALWAYS. There is no spotlight hogging if others don't say something, you're just the one who actually talks.

Fourth: Remember initiative. If ever 2 people have conflicting actions they want to perform - roll initiative. Who ever rolls higher goes first, he initiates rape, your next action is to try and help the guard.

Fifth: Attempting to rape someone in a game of imagination is considered offensive and inappropriate in a school setting. I don't recomend being a tattletail, it will bite you in the end. However, keep in mind that kind of an action in game should be enough to get him a warning in any school, possibly kicked out.

Sixth: If everyone else is having a good time and you are not, who is the problem character? You are, not them. If you're the only one with complaints it might be time to bow out. If others are bothered too, get yourself some back up and sit down and have a real, adult, discussion about having fun and playing in character.

Seventh: That dude is EVIL. He needs to change his character sheet to evil, verify any losses he takes for an alignment shift, and if you have a pally in the party be ready for PC conflict. Any Paladin knowingly cooperating with an evil person is in big trouble with his deity and may lose all of his paladin abilities. This is not something players take very well.

and Finally:
I find that turning and puching a player in the face for being stupid (I have a broad definition of stupid) is a good way to:
a) get yourself in trouble - especially in school
b) break that suckers stupid nose
and most importantly
c) get him to never want to play with you again.

the problem with reporting him is that he could get the club banned. not to bring up a sterotype but our district is a very religious one and the existance of this club is shaky at best. having some one who runs around and commits mass rape is a sure fire way to get the club banned.

they will take what he is doing very seriously, he could get suspended and the club killed. even if they don't kill the club they will prevent us from meeting until they deal with him. i would perfer this to not happen
That's why you want him out fast. The longer he stays in and is allowed to do this, the more it hurts your club's reputation. By reporting it, you're showing how responsible the rest of the group is. Seriously: there's something not right in that kid's head. :twitch:

3rd i spoke to the other players and most of them agree with me. except the paladin and sorc who don't want to take sides.

4th spoke to the dm also. he says he doesn't realy think its a problem but he will "Look into it"

Well it sounds like some positive has happened. Maybe the other players will come around if they don't see it as much about you vs. the player and choosing sides.

But, you've mentioned it to the teacher, the players and the DM. At the very least, if things hit the fan later because of his actions then you're more or less covered, you tried working on it internally and notified the teacher in charge.

As for the ranger, if he does tone it down then I'd suggest some positive reinforcement. At the end of a session thank him for toning it down or just pointing out that you noticed it. Or even just talking about something else the character did in a positive way. I really think he's just looking for attention and if he starts getting some positive attention for doing productive things then the disruptive derailing activities will die off.

what is the CR for 7 level 10 human warrior npc's? and how much exp does a party of 3 level 3 characters and a level 2 get out of that?

I put it at EL 15 by the encounter calculator at d20srd.org (CR for NPC levels tending to be 1 less than the number of levels, so I counted it as 7 CR 9s). 12600 XP for each character. Granted, if you did manage that just with the party there's likely plenty of other things out of whack.

It's hard to say, there's obviously some DM issues. I suspect a big issue is that you have way better equipment than you should and it sounds like the DM gives it out like candy to reward players, not good.

Now the DM might have no clue how to setup appropriate encounters but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that 7 bad guys with 8 or 9 levels more than a 4 member party is too much. But, you also did beat the encounter. It sounds like the DM really doesn't know how to run a combat properly and make use of the NPCs' abilities so you guys are able to beat encounters you normally shouldn't (again, some of this goes back to equipment as well). I think there's possibly 2 things going on; first of all, you are beating the encounters so he doesn't realise it's a problem. Second, he might be intentionally increasing the power level of the encounters because you keep beating them. To me, it sounds like he doesn't realise that he's not running the encounters effectively and so he's increasing the difficulty to try to challenge you guys but since he continues to run them poorly you keep beating them.

ok let me explain real quick.

i have mithril mechanus armor and a +4axiomatic, unholy, heavy pick.

i have the best equipment out of any one. i spent all of my money on mithril mechanus armor while every one else payed 200gp for cure light potions. we do use alot of them.

now the heavy pick is an interesting story. at the begining we were in an arena. inbetween the rounds i converted the group paladin of heronius to the ways of hextor. following that i attempted to convert the audiance. (i have no idea how conversion works) the dm said to roll a diplomacy check. the monk, fighter, and paladin aided me and he gave me a plus 5 for the paladin. i rolled a 20 so he ruled that i convereted 91% of the audiance, which came to 16,000 people. so an aspect of hextor came and gave me the heavy pick. this all happened 5 weeks ago

now last week i threw a guard through a guard house door. in the time it took me to pick up the guard my party managed to get all the way to the other side of the town, and i had 5 level 10 guards bearing down on me. so i used dark speech and since i had previusly converted some of them i was able to dominate them. i figured as the guards i controled attacked the other ones i could escape. then the club ended and i had to wait till this week.

now at the start of today the dm informed me that 5 weeks ago he screwed up and that i actualy needed to roll a 40 to convert any one. even tho i rolled a perfect 20 and still got a 37 i didn't convert any one, however i made them all mad at me since i tried to convert them. since i didn't convert any of them i never got my heavy pick. so i am surrounded by 5 level 10 gaurds that are chaotic good, i lack a +4 axiomatic, unholy heavy pick. and none of them are evil so i can't dominate them.

prior to this i also used my conversion as an exscuse to get close to a noble and then kill him and get tons of magical items, that i gave to the party so they would have better stuff. also killing the noble was the event that set the main quest into action. but since i never converted those people i shouldn't have been able to get in to see the noble. but some how that part managed to stay in. so the party got good magic items, the main quest goes on, and i loose my 2 main weapons, in the middle of a fight that they would be gerat in.

anyways so i reatreated into the stair case and beat down the guards ne at a time. then the party managed to catch up and climb up the wall and get into the top of the tower were they killed 2 more guards.

anywys that wasn't realy quick, but yeah......i got so screwed in that deal.

okay, you still have a lot of issues with magical items though. I'm not sure about what mithral mechanus armour is but I doubt you should be able to afford it at level 2 or 3. Similarly, you mentioned earlier about characters having to spend 4000gp to bail a character out of jail, I don't have the wealth by level guidelines in front of my but I'm pretty sure that's more gold than a single level 2 or 3 character should have.

Similarly, if memory serves, the price for potions of cure light wounds is around 35-50gp, not 200 so you're getting ripped off there too.

So despite how you got the gear, it's way more equipment than you should have. As for the DM retroactively changing things, that's pretty cheap. The whole setup for getting the item in the first place sounds pretty dubious to begin with but to then decide several weeks later that he fouled up and take away the equipment, in the middle of an encounter, isn't very fair either.

I'd say there's a lot of work that needs to be done with the DM learning and understanding the rules. I'd say maybe play through some more sessions with this campaign just to get everyone familiar with the rules but in the long run you're better off tossing it and starting from scratch at level 1 in a new campaign.

1st i spoke to the teacher who runs it. i asked him to keep an eye on the group. he said he couldn't but he took me on my word for it, and told me to come back and tell him if he got worst or not.

Congrats on telling the teacher :D

2nd because we spent almost the entire time in a guard tower fighting guards his oppurtunities for rape were limited. he did mention it a few times but not alot.

"a few times" seems quite a lot to me...how many times does he mention it when not busy fighting???

3rd i spoke to the other players and most of them agree with me. except the paladin and sorc who don't want to take sides.

That's good news !!

4th spoke to the dm also. he says he doesn't realy think its a problem but he will "Look into it"

I bet your DM likes to go around raping stuff as well...

5th i spoke to the ranger. i told him he should probably tone it down. he accused me of being a DM wanna be. but he did tone it down a bit.

DM wanna be?? lol

tommorow i will talk to the teacher again and see what he wants to do.

All this talk about "conversion" is confusing me.

What sort of rules are you using for this?

Its not like you can give a really good speech, and then all of a sudden everyone around you says "yeah, sure, I wanna follow the evil god of torment too!"

Diplomacy checks can just change people's attitude from hostile to unfriendly or even neutral. I don't see how a simple skill check can change someone's alignment or who they worship.

Imagine how this would work if the NPCs could do it.

DM: You enter the evil temple, weapons dripping blood from the guards you just slew. A robed figure looks up from the altar and begins to speak.
DM: **roll.. checks dice.**
DM: whoops, 3 out of 4 party members are now neutral evil followers of Nerull, whip out some character sheets boys, its time for a new campaign.

What you really need to do is tell the creator of this club (or teacher) about what is happening and tell them that they should make a rule that all sexual themes are to be PG-13 or lower if that is too much. Or just tell the person to stop or you will tell the creator to kick him/her out.

after i converted the paladin ( the paladin was a PC) i descided to try to convert the audiance too. the dm said roll a diplomacy check. the paladin, monk, and fighter helped me and then i rolled a natural 20. with diplomacy at that time the entire thing ended up being like 37. the DM rolled a d100 to see what % of the audiance converted and he rolled a 91, which came to be about 18000 people.

and we spent the entire time in tower fighting so the ranger made comments like....
(right after he got hit for tons of damage) i am so raping this guy after this.

that kinda thing

and the dm is ignoring that rule about maximum exp on an encounter. also the guards were realy well equiped we had citizens attacking us too. so he is making it a CR16 encounter and we are going from level 3 to level 7

To review...
*At level 3 you have a +17 Diplomacy modifier.
*With a single check you converted 18,000 Heironeous worshipers into devotees of Hextor (this is something akin to converting everyone in St. Peter's Basilica to satan-worship...a few dozen times)
*You were able to use a Diplomacy check to manipulate the actions, and in fact the very nature, of a Player Character.

and the dm is ignoring that rule about maximum exp on an encounter. also the guards were realy well equiped we had citizens attacking us too. so he is making it a CR16 encounter and we are going from level 3 to level 7

And then went on to, again at level 3, defeat multiple well-equipped guards each three times your level, gaining 4 levels in one encounter.

Wow...just wow. Your DM needs to take a step back, and have a look at what he's doing with his /her campaign. I thought you were level 2-3? Why the hell are you in possession of a +4 Unholy Whatever Heavy Pick? As for those conversion Ad Hoc rulings, that's crap. That's not how DnD works. I believe in the occasional "winging it" adventure, but making up such idiotic rules in order to award a 2nd/3rd Level Character a near Epic weapon? Boo-urns. I'm calling shenanigans.

EDIT: I forgot about the guards. Jeeze man...If this is what you're looking for in a game, I don't understand why you'd take the Pen and Paper approach. I mean, I'm all for everyone just having fun, playing how they like the game. But really, you'd have more fun with Diablo 2, Dungeon Siege, maybe DnD Online (all of which are good games, I'm not saying this is a derogative way). Or at least play somewhat according to the rules...

sorry let me clarify. i converted the paladin by role playing. i convinced him to give up the ways of heironeous and join hextor.

and my diplomacy was like +8 or so. 5 ranks and 3 modifier. thats 28 + 3 characters assisitng me +2 on each one so thats 34 total. and then a bonus for converting the paladin infront of them of +5 so 39 total

and i don't know if they all worshiped heironeous. the dm didn't say what they were

and we beat the guards by fighting them one at a time in a stair case. well i killed 4 of them one at a tile in a stiar case. the sorc ran around town with one chasing him and eventualy killed him. and the ranger and paladin took on the other 2. and we had tons of spells cast to buff us up. i had protection from good, shield, magic vestment or something like that, all to gether it put my ac up to 31. and the guards had bane casted on them and they were also frightened.

Okay, first of all, low level play can be fun. Second, do you honestly think that jumping up in level, with all the inherent additional complexity, is going to make things better or worse with your DM? If he can't properly run adventures for 2 level 3s and 2 level 2s then how is he supposed to get a handle around 4 level 7s, which have way more abilities and options, could likely be into a PrC by now, will have much more equipment (I don't even what to know what kind of equipment he'd think is appropriate to hand out to you at that point) and so on.

I'd say run through some sample combats until he gets the swing of things, encourage him to read the rules on encounter level and wealth by level in the DMG, show him this encounter calculator (http://www.d20srd.org/encounterCalculator.htm) so he doesn't have to figure out ELs himself and once he has a hang of all that, reset to level 1. Yes, it'll take a couple of weeks to do but then you can actually run something that might be a better approximation of how the game is supposed to work and you'll be able to make things run more smoothly and get more done.

If you want to pick up the pace, I'd say try to swing another day for gaming rather than up the level.

Do I even want to know how you managed to cast that many spells to buff yourself when you're at level 3?

Let's see, Magic Vestment is a 3rd level Cleric spell which means you'd have to be at least a 5th level Cleric to cast it. Let me guess, the DM doesn't understand that spell level does not equal class level and is letting you cast spells up to your class level, and you haven't bothered to correct him because it's to your benefit?

Shield has a range of personal and is an arcane spell. You're playing a cleric of hextor right? So how'd you cast that on yourself? The sorc can't cast it on you.

Magic Vestment at your level is +1 (if you could cast it), Shield is +4, Protection from Good is +2 so that's +7, how did you have an AC of 24?

Why was this person playing a Paladin? He would not have listened to you in the first place, had he been a worshipper of Heironeous. That's some, uh, good RPing ya got there. Especially since you said you converted him one round, then converted the audience the next. Nice. Before your DM starts arbitrarily adding house rules into the game, he/she needs to get a more firm grasp of the Core rules first.

yes low levels are fun but the club ends in mid january. if it takes a few weeks to get him to understand then we wont even get to our current levels before the club ends. and i haven't had alot of exp with higher levels.

and we aren't going to get new equipment. we already have good stuff but that wont compare with a level 7, well my armor might.

i am not sure about this since he wont let any one look at his stuff but i don't think he knows what an EL is. he wont tell me but when we first started he had us against like 4 etherial flitchers, and 3 etherial maurarders. everything there was sending us into negitive hp in one hit.

i already asked the teacher if we could do another day but he said he had a life outside of school and couldn't

my wisdome score is 20 and not all of them came from me.
magic vestment is a domain spell. not sure which one but i think war. and as shield isn't my spell i wasn't sure how it worked. thats a mess up on my part tho. and my armor comes form.... dex of 15, mithril mechanus armor +10 ac max dex bonus +2 and a heavy steal shield with spikes

@Alacar_Deathstone
the paladin conversion was inbetween waves of arena mosnters. not sure how long it took. and i had the 2 other evil people grapple the other pcs and i grappled the paladin and held him down. because of my armor spikes if he tried to grapple out he would have died. also the dm sorta urged him to convert since he was like playing a paladin of heironeous with 3 worshipers of hextor and the dm was happy that it would end in a way without any one dieing.

Alright, that sort of makes the situation a little better. But still, a Paladin's faith could not be reaffirmed that quickly. He wouldn't have been converted, he merely would have lied to you in order to survive. If his faith was that weak to be changed that quickly, he wouldn't have been a Paladin in the first place. This isn't called conversion, it's called selective interrogation :) Forcing someone to say what you want to hear is not conversion (IMO). But then again, by the sounds of the game, I don't think RPing is really that important. To be honest, neither do the numbers...

My eyes are bleeding now.

I don't fully understand why I just read 6 pages of this story. Guess it's like watching a bad TV show where you're so embarassed for the actors you just keep watching...

But now that I've read the whole thing, I have some advice.

(1) Disband your group. None of you have even the slightest clue what Dungeons & Dragons is. You lack understanding of even the most basic of rules. Plus, you don't bother to read spells or feats or skill descriptions or class feature descriptions or alignment descriptions or the many many splat books you seem to somehow have money for, it seems you just assume from the names what they ought to do...

(2) Ask Mom & Dad for the D&D Basic Game for Christmas. DO NOT OPEN IT UNTIL NEXT CHRISTMAS. By then, you'll have matured enough, hopefully, to start over. In the meantime, play Kick the Can, Dead Man's Chest (NOT Dead Man's Bunghole, so your one friend is out already), TiddlyWinks, Pick Up Sticks, War, I Spy, and, if you think you're all mature enough, you might try Monopoly.

(3) Do not invite the rapist-player to your Basic Game Night (which will be sometime after 12/25/2007).

(4) In the beginning of 2008, you may purchase a pre-generated adventure arc, made to take characters from level 1 to 4. Start with a 25-point buy, or a 4d6 drop lowest roll for character generation. Purchase equipment with only the normal starting funds for your classes. Use no items / spells / feats / etc from any book other than the PHB and DMG. Use no monsters other than from the Monster Manual. Note the conspicuous absence of IIs and IIIs in that list.

(5) Repeat step (4) at least two times (for three 1-4 level campaigns total).

(6) Take your third set of 4th level PCs on a 5th to 8th level adventure arc.

(7) Make a fourth set of 1st level characters and run them through a 1st through 20th(ish) pre-published campaign.

(8) It should now be the year 2010. You have learned to play Dungeons & Dragons. You may now proceed to purchase additional rule books, and add one per month, or one per 20 hours of gaming, to your list of "allowed" books for the campaign.

Your entire group needs to die in a fire, or, at the very least, voluntarily sterilize themselves to avoid the possibility--however indescribably remote it may be--that your genetic material would ever be passed on to some wretched offspring.

It is very interesting how this turned into a hate fest of Silveus and his whole group. Give the kid a break, they are making an effort to learn. I have run across many such groups who either don't know the rules or blatantly disregard them for whatever reason. Many will become decent players in time. As long as they have fun, they should continue to play, learn, and buy many wotc products at the local game shop to help support the gaming industry that we love.

One could start to wonder if the problems really rested with the ranger, or were exaggerated by the op and the interesting play style of the group. What difference would it make though? He is inexperienced and came seeking help. When the criticism becomes less than constructive, you are not helping end the thread or the op with the problems.

I would suggest that you, Silveus, learn the rules and help the others see what a good group can be. In the meantime, soldier on with the fortitude to resist irritating party members bringing you down to their level.
