| thatoreoguy08-13-07, 06:44 PM | Hey all, I have been playing dnd for about 2 years soley as a player. I am having some role play issues with my current charecter. Basically I'm a whispergnome ninja built to be a tomb raider. I have ridiculous skills in sneak, hide, and all that good stuff. Coming from playing a man of oppurtunity rogue (previous campaign) to a highclass ninja has me jostled. Now that I'm worried about bigger fish I find it hard to put down my clepto ways. Basically I'm having difficulty finding a rudimentry charecter voice. How should i play or be played. The party is currently held up in a very northern small port town. The only man with money is the guy we are working for. As well, my intro to the party was a little flashy. - Town was attacked, bells rang i flew in to investigate having previously been scamme dtaht very same day. Arrived at the scene of my would be party members dealing with some undead. Went invisible helped out, appeared said my hello's to the part after the job was done. Agreed to meet back at a tavern and now we're on our way investigating some undead noise in some catacombs. - So now with no real charecter specific oppurtunities to raise my indiana jones hopes im at an ends to keep myself busy in this town with a unexperienced party. AND not get out of charecter. Any help would be appreciated thatoreoguy, |

In the absence of that, here are a few thoughts you may or may not find helpful. Indy could kick arse with the best, but his real strength was in his brain. Don't forget, he's a bona fide college professor teaching at a level they don't give to adjunct staff. Personally, I think only a tenured professor would be given the latitude to take off at a moment's notice... It's important to understand that Indiana Jones is NOT a tomb robber! As an archaeologist, Indy's interest in artifacts is 100% academic. Items of cultural significance should studied for clues to ancient cultures and then displayed for all to enjoy, not locked up in some private collection - or worse be exploited for personal gain. He would never consider selling such artifacts (magical or otherwise!). So, as a rogue with the racial ability to become invisible and create areas of magical silence, you need to decide whether you're inspired or disgusted by the Indiana Jones mindset. Are you an archaeologist who recovers items from ancient ruins and long-forgotten tombs in order to bring their cultural significance to the fore, or are you a tomb robber who's interest in these items is defined in terms of market value? As far as how to keep yourself busy? Gods, man, you're a rogue! You have Gather Information and Knowledge (Local) on your class skill list for a reason: it's your job to do the digging and discover what you can about these catacombs before you (and your party) blunder blindly into something that the locals firmly believe to be cursed beyond redemption. |
