| AlRiKlv.306-22-05, 04:49 PM | Whats Up Guys??? Im in deep stuff I mean deep. In order to unravel the mystary of discovering who the bad guy is (the current mayor of the capitol city of the country or the candidate to oppose the current mayor in the coming elections). We needed to battle through a series of Naga to get to the overseer of the city (which is called Alvenira). Note that we needed to risk death to get to this little overseer. So just as we get out of the sewers a HUGE Inevitable came to come to fight us. I know this because the candidate told us that the mayor summoned the Inevitable to come and kill the candidate. Please help me with suggestions on what we should do, Alrik P.S- Bad Guy-Mayor Good Guy-Candidate |
| RogerWilco06-22-05, 04:58 PM | their touch AC's is low, maybe something like rusting grasp could help? |
| Zeteg06-22-05, 06:42 PM | Why is the inevitable fighting you? Did you do something wrong? The weakest inevitable I can think of is the Zelekhut, which is CR 9, I think. That's the one for breaking a law. If it's any other one, I don't think your DM plans to kill you. |
| AlRiKlv.306-22-05, 07:32 PM | No the mayor convinced the Inevitable into believing that the candidate did something to break the law I guess, and also im sorry but I am not sure what a rusting grasp is. |
| Shaken, not Stunned06-22-05, 08:21 PM | Do you want us to play for you? Then why are you asking? This is the kind of thing that you and the party should figure out, its more fun that way. You wouldn't want to use a strategy guide to beat a video game, would you? |
| AlRiKlv.306-22-05, 08:31 PM | You guys are right but I should re-word it. Im sorry I put it that way. Can you guys just tell me your past experiences with Inevitables. Agian Im sorry how I worded it the first time. :( |
| Zeteg06-22-05, 09:12 PM | I've only had experience DMing and using inevitables. In fact, I used a Zelekhut last session when my players broke out of prison. I did it because only one players was in jail, and the others were too stupid to find out what the fine for murder in self defence was in that city (10 gold). I figure that inevitables are programmed to be reasonable - as no programming can be irrational. If you want to fight the Zelekhut, make sure your caster uses some sort of spell to grant you at least 6 resistance to electricity. That way, his attacks will be like a normal great sword. Its HP isn't great, but the problem is that you can't hurt it very well unless you have chaotic weapons. Chaos Hammer, or similar spell might be useful. It also has spell resistance, so that's tricky. The worst part is that you guys probably can't hit an AC of 27. Unless your group is huge or overpowered, I doubt you can take him on. You'd have to make sure all your physical attacks did over 10 dmg a hit. Even then, he regenerates 5 hp/round. Ego Whip, or some type of stat eliminating spell/power might be to your advantage. If I were you, I'd try and convince the inevitable that the mayor is wrong. If that doesn't work--and there's no obvious route you should take--then I'd take a katana to the negotiating table when asking the DM what he's doing. Not litterally, of course. |
| Torack06-23-05, 03:50 AM | If the mayor summoned an Inevitable via a spell(I'm fairly sure this is impossible by the RAW, but who knows), the casting Protection from Law(Again, assuming no-one in the party is lawful) might be a reasonable bet, as would trying to get off a Magic Circle against Law and use it as a trap as described in the flavour text, would almost be paramount. Also make sure you get the Endure Elements spell, which will negate 10hps of elemental damage. Protection from Alignment prevents summoned creatures from harming you physically. If the Inevitabel is truely summoned via a spell, I'm fairly sure it will prevent it from hurting you and whoever else is under its protection. Having the cleric cast the spell Align Weapon will help in overcoming its DR. |
| AlRiKlv.306-23-05, 08:44 AM | Thanks for the advice but I'm only a lv. 5 Cleric and we dont have another caster. My Party (if everyone is there) : Cleric- Lv. 5 Barbarian- Lv. 1 Psychic Warrior- Lv.1 Ranger-Lv 4 also is an Arcane Archer-Lv.2 Psion-Lv.5 (our Dm's NPC who joins us now and then) Fighter-Lv.5 (We hired him for this mission) Dragon Disciple-Lv.2 |
| cvazi06-23-05, 09:08 AM | erm- definitely run. Avoid the combat. your party will get destroyed by the lowest level of inevitable. The only experience I had with inevitables was as a wilder6/illithidslayer9. My psychic theruge ally and I took the CR 15 one down with crystal shards in the first round. |
| Zeteg06-23-05, 12:59 PM | Hmm... so you might actually stand a chance. Your level ones and two should hide somewhere and be silent, 'cause they're going to die in one or two hits. You're going to have to cast that endure elements spell on your warrior and possibly your psion too, and provide healing as much as you can. Have your warrior basically provoke the inevitable as much as he can, and DO NOT try and get full round attacks off. Zelekhuts have a 10 foot reach, so your fighter is going to take a full attack against a Zelekhut, and that's more damage than you can heal, probably. Have him act as a decoy. Zelekhuts have 10 int... so you know. If your warrior has a tower shield, get him to use it. His purpose isn't damage - it's being a decoy. Have your psion hide in a tree or something and overchannal Mind Thrusts or similar damaging powers. MAKE SURE to heal your warrior, and your psion if the Zelekhut finds him. The level ones and twos might feed the psion potions, if they have any so you can focus on on healing the warrior who SHOULD take most of the damage. The Zelekhut's will save isn't too great, so most of the Mind Thrusts should go through. 6d10 points of damage should average around 30. So, three mind thrusts should screw the Zelekhut over. |
