I remember in one game, we were attacked by two dagger wielding badguys. The first was named Jose and he tried to stab us. His brother was named Jos-B, and he held the dagger by the blade and beat us over the head with the hilt :D

One of the games I'm in has this NPC named Bryan who could in almost any other circumstance be the worst kind of DMPC around. He was a pure Rogue and always took center stage, but his antics were so funny that we forgave him and the DM for what we would normally hate. For example, one time he was trying to sneak into this place with invisibility, but instead stole a pie off the windowsill and started eating it. The cook, seeing this, ran out with a butcher knife and chase us all off the lawn, as Bryan continued to eat the pie while running.

hrmm so far the most memorable npc in the campaign i am in was actually a unnamed Orc shaman, who could read minds like open books. He managed to get my bard so angry he literally tried to strangle him when he said out loud all of the embarrising things that my bard had left out of the story of the last adventure.

Orc Shaman: "Honestly to light a giant dust monster on fire*, how stupid must you be?" *laughing*

Mekial: "...Irridan, im going to end up strangleing this shaman.."

Orc Shaman: "My three year old grand son is smarter." *still laughing*

Mekial: "OK thats it!" *CRACK* *gets knocked out by my changeling druid friend*

Orc Shaman: "And he can take a hit better to!"

*resulted in a miniture inferno, which me and the druid waited out in the next room, untill we figure we would use his create water spell to somewhat put it out. doing so killed the monster though :D

Mindless Mary is a 'DMPC'/Pull-along PC we used for a while before she turned true PC. She was first introduced as the town's fool, raggy skirt, straw-blond hair that was all messy and wild-eyed, muttering only half-scentences. The group quickly discovered that she wasn't actually dumb and powerless, but relied for her sanity on the chanelling of psionic energy. This became even more clear when she rescued her foster parents from prison by blowing it up.

The PCs, feeling responsible for her, took her along and though she participated in fights from time to time, she rarely reached full destructive potential (not that that bothered my players) and she became especially attached to our Psychic fighter.

Later she was 'cured' of her affliction and became sane again. Currently she is played by a new player and is more destructive than before.

One of my favorite DMs had an NPC named Chaplin. He was utterly inept and constantly amused us with his bold and fruitless attempts at heroism. His one successful attack roll ended in the death of a long running villain, and no one could have been as surprised as he was. That DM has a relative or descendant of Chaplin in almost every game.

The most memorable NPC for me was Crispy.

Crispy was a kobold who one of my players (who was a warforged psychic warrior named Noodle) rescued and befriended. He was a very excitable little kobold who also happened to hate everybody except for the PC that rescued him and bought him a dire weasel mount. I miss him.

Timbers.

He was a doctor with two peg legs, a hook hand and a wooden hand. And he was our ship's only medicinal expert.
