Input for a Paladin type character in distress [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've been playing under the same DM for more than a year now. Recently we decided to restart the current campaign world we were in and make it take place in his 3st age of man (we were in the 5th age in the first campaign) where magic items are supposed to be all over the place and the gods are the new kids on the block.

I chose to play a paladin, supposed to be the very first paladin, in the world. We even came up with this nifty prestiage class that rocks against anything except for other divine characters. I was trained by an old dude (think Kill Bill type training) from the age of 11 to 21.

We ahve gotten about three-four months into the campaigns and suddenly it turns out that I'm not the first. There are actully several other guys pretty much the same as me that are all higher lvl and could knock me silly. Lets say there are 12 major npcs in the world. 9 of them would be the same class as myself.

Further, the DM has these silly decapitation rules his added to his campaign. None of the players want them yet he does. I'm the only PC that has really been hurt by these rules so far, which ill get to in a bit.

We are going through the Red Hand of Doom. We had apparently skipped more than the first half of the adventure and got straight to the end of the first part. Where the PCs can choose to stand and fight it out with an army in a doomed city. Myself and a few of the other PC's chose to stay (some only for a little bit to aid and then save there hides). In the end I was the only one left standing. My character should have died due to overwhelming odds but I survived to fight one of these major NPCs I was speaking about before.

Once he beats me(He actully swung for subdual damage), I come to in an empty field with a battle plan map and all of my equipment. DM orginally worked out a way I could surive but involved me lossing more than 60% of character wealth. So he gave me exp option or a role play option, which i went for the later.

I go wondering around after suiting up and start to wonder around, trying to find my barrings. I run into a caravan under attack. I get there just in time to see the last man in armor kill the last hobgoblin and then fall due to poison. Turns out that it was my brother (who us PC's assumed to be one of the major persons from this age that is still talked about from the first age of men) who makes me swear to protect his love. His love turns out to be an elf druid who is married to the major npc in the campaign that we already know will eventully get diety status. So it turns out that I'm the guy thats still talked about in the future. I use up my remove disease on the druid causing my brother to die in the process.

A will save to deny the druid sex the first night (failed) and decapitaiton rules come into play now. On our way to reach the closest major city (same day) we get ambushed and i kill the major hobgoblin boss in that group as he cuts my arm off. That night I fail the will save for denying the druid sex.

Party wizard then has his new spells for the day and scribes on the people that stayed behind, comes and teleports us to major city in area. From here I assume the mantle of being a leading figure in the area.

Since the stay in the doomed city, i have not gotten to play my character for three weeks. I'm still at the game table, but unable to since I know have many obligations in cities that my character must take since his views on humanity (humans rock and pretty everything else blows).

During these three games though:
-Outragious price on a scroll of regenerate (12000 gp with two other spells on the same scroll)
-Asked druid to cast spell (druid was 13th lvl, scroll was caster lvl 19)
-Druid gets replaced by areana
-Does not allow class abilities to know its areana
-supposed to have very rare abilities that somehow the areana has a way to protect itself from
-DMs daughter who plays with us slipped at game table that my sword (lost it with decapitation but can summon it to myself at next level) will have a curse on it when I get it back (everyone missed this since she speaks quietly, hasn't been playing long, and i didn't act like i heard her).

Well, if I were the DM, the only reason I wouldn't allow the use of your Detection Abilities is because you are, as you said, one of the first. You've been trained to use the light, but your trainer obviously isn't perfect at determining your Paladin abilities, because he wasn't one himself. So, he wouldn't be as able to teach you how to use it.

It could become a plot hook that the druid was really an aranea. You could find a little side-quest there, maybe your brother's death was caused by the aranea's trickery, and it had intended to kill the king? That would be up to your DM, but if you get the chance to explore that possibility, you might look into it.

Also, the druid casting a spell that its too low level to cast? That should be a dead giveaway that the druid's not a druid(and would be further evidence that this isn't just any arnea, maybe one with class levels, or a template your DM designed). :D And you had sex with an aranea. Twice. Ew.

Any time your DM says "will save to not have sex with elf druid the first night" it indicates that he is a pervert, a railroader, and a bad DM. If there are no spells involved he is a compete idiot.

Your Dm has set himself a problem in this campaign because some of the events are pre-ordained and he has to bend things to fit. Unfortunately it feels like he is railroading at this stage. And the decapitation rules? Yuck. There's a reason D&D does NOT have those (I don't even allow Vorpal weapons in my campaigns).

DM: Will save not to pork the Druid girl.

Azezel: Thank you and goodnight, weirdo. *leaves*.

Serriously - will saves are for enchantents - and no matter how, erm, succulent, a woman is, she is not actually able to enchant a man at 20 paces.

Well, I have found out that the will save wasn't to have sex with the druid. Apparently the will save was for the Erinyas (with advanced hit dice) charm person effect upon my character. My DM is very good at having stuff woven into the background to leap up and attack ya in the face and such... *sigh*
