If not, then what's stopping a party from "sharing" an int enhancing item so everyone gets more skill pts (ie. equiping the item to the person just before they level up). Of course, I assume no DM is insane enough to allow this, but is there an actual rule that prevents this from happening? hmm...I might have posted this in the wrong forum..please feel free to move this to wherever's appropriate. |

Only your natural intelligence bonus is considered, plus any inherent bonus you might have gotten from tomes. You never lose skill ranks due to dropped intelligence, you would merely earn fewer skill points the next level. Also, intelligence DAMAGE never affects how many skill points you get, but intelligence DRAIN (the permanent intelligence loss that requires a greater restoration to restore) will. |

Ohh..did not know that about Int enhancing items. Thought it was if worn for over half the level you gain skill points for that level, which will also prevent item 'sharing' with the headband. |
| Zherog01-19-07, 11:45 AM | The "half level" thing is a common house rule. But the headband of intellect text (in 3.5) specifically denies extra skill points. Headband of Intellect: This device is a light cord with a small gem set so that it rests upon the forehead of the wearer. The headband adds to the wearer’s Intelligence score in the form of an enhancement bonus of +2, +4, or +6. This enhancement bonus does not earn the wearer extra skill points when a new level is attained; use the unenhanced Intelligence bonus to determine skill points. Moderate transmutation; CL 8th; Craft Wondrous Item, fox’s cunning; Price 4,000 gp (+2), 16,000 gp (+4), 36,000 gp (+6). |

Not unlike mithril, although WotC has thankfully not officially changed the rules on that one yet. Literacy still prevails, to some degree. |
