Magiq 07-10-05, 04:48 PM	Right, I have two questions about relations between two characters in the same party. I do not wish these answers, or the relationships themselves to become sexual, as that is not the way in which I game. A 1st level paladin in my party, who is 31 years old I believe, wishes to make other people believe that a 1st level wizard in the party, who appears to be 14 (insert complex plane travelling back story here) is his daughter. He wants to do this to protect the girl, in a world where arcane casters are persecuted. He doesn’t fully know of, or understand, the extent of her magic, but he knows in his heart that it is right for him to protect her. They are both LG characters. How should the Paladin (named Dace) react to the wizard (named Khetal)? What kind of things should the couple do to make every one (even the rest of the party) believe that they are related? Can anyone see any problems with this set up? My character (1st level bard, 4th level swashbuckler elf) is currently getting much closer to my friends character (5th level warmage kenku). how should we go about showing that we wish our characters to have a relationship, and what should we do. i assume cross species dating would not be like modern day, human dating, but how different would it be? Any ideas are very welcome, these situations really need resolving to help the campaigns. thanks!!! Jack
Aram al'Castor 07-10-05, 11:34 PM	Well for the warmage and the swashbucker just run it the same as the two of you would in real life, flirt and see what happens. I'd hold off on introducing any interracial aspects for a while until you two can get the first part of my recomendation down pat. as to the first part of your question, well it might be difficult especially if the paladin reall doesnt have a daughter or is the exact same age as the wizard but with some good roleplaying it could be done. I'd even suggest using some real life situations. for example the wizard goes out one night to a magic ware or book store and winds up staying out all night then have her come back and have the paladin waiting up all night wondering where she is and then yells at her and tell her she now has a curfew, etc,etc. Hopefully some of these ideas will help. best of luck

Can anyone see any problems with this set up? The only problem here is that the paladin is actively engaged in deceit. Depending on the stringency of his code, this could cause problems for him. Exactly as different as you want it to be. If your respective characters act in un-humanlike fashion in their normal interactions, carry this over into the relationship. If they don't, don't.
Shard Avengard 07-11-05, 01:03 PM	Paladin's don't exactly send a telegram to the bad guy outpost informing them what time they plan on attacking... Lawful Good does NOT = Lawful Stupid. Given the situation the Paladin deems that a "cover identity" is better suited to protect the girl. Act like her father, end of story.
Bruunwald 07-11-05, 01:36 PM	You can give a title to the relationship between the paladin and the wizard that would be appropriate and that would mark her as under his protection or guidance. He could call her his ward, his charge, his foster-daughter, his sister-daughter (if she is his niece), or some such title. In any case, those approaching her would know that they are not actually father and daughter, but they would also know that he considers himself her patron or paternal figure.
