| Raistlin8407-04-04, 08:57 PM | I was wondering how exactly interacting with illusions worked, because I'm not sure my DM knows what it means. Last game we were in a room with 6 practice dummies and there was 3 kobolds, so I made an illusion where the dummies animated to scare the kobolds, but not attack them because I know it cant hurt them, so they didn't interact with them. But my DM still rolled a will check to disbelieve, 1 succeeded and the other 2 failed, so they were shaken, thus getting a morale penalty to their attack. Next round he rolled again, even though they didn't examine the dummies or interact with them, and the 3 of them didn't believe in the illusion anymore. I believe they shouldn't have any save, since they didn't interact with the dummies, so am I right??? |

You want an effect to take place, and it would have negative results for the target. Whether you want the kobold to detour down that hall 'cause he heard a hot koboldet, or you want to nuke the little lizard with a fireball, the end result is the same. No more kobold in your way. Yes, this means the third level spell is better than the ghost sound. Illusion spells require a lot of DM descretion, and I tend not to use spells like this. |
| Beamup07-05-04, 12:05 PM | You are correct. The kobolds should not have received a save. Note, however, that the effects of the illusion are totally discretionary, so you might not have gotten much out of it. But, a good DM should make it useful (as yours did) when you get creative like that. "Interacting" with the dummies would include such things as attacking them or touching them. Just seeing an illusion is definitely not enough to get a save. |
