Im just curoius about something, what does everyone think would happen if a Lvl 7 half-elf monk and a lvl 8 hafling rouge if they happened to duel? The monks main weapon(besides hands) is a spiked chain and the rouges main waepons are +2 daggers and a short sword of speed. What do you think would happen if both characters were decent at the game, Curious as to what the out come would be.

Does the monk have improved trip/disarm? If not, there's no need for him to be even weilding a spiked chain.

Assuming no buffs or potions, I say too close to call. I'd cheer for the Monk though.

my money would be on the monk unless the rogue could somehow get sneak attack in there, in which case it would be pretty close. down to who rolled better probably.

lvl 8 hafling rouge

In my campaign halfling make-up does not have levels, and being inanimate cannot wield weapons.
Though you might make a case for rouge being a weapon in the right hands.

EDIT: I think the DC for a half elf monk smearing rouge all over the place is probably pretty low. Maybe a Profession(beautician) check is in order.

'A duel' isn't meaning something unless you actually get the scene together.

A straight forward fight would mean a skirmish fighter v.s. a back-up fighter, that means that the monk can outspeed the halfling with ease and that will ensure his victory, since daggers don't help if you're far from your target.

In a dimly lid warehouse with boxes standing all around, however, it would come to depend on the Monk's ability to stay away from the halfling as good as possible (avoiding sneak attacks) and then pummel the little bugger when he has the surprise. The monk can especially jump better and go sitting on a height the halfling can barely reach and then play a little waiting game to either hit the halfling if he tries to get up, dodge if the halfling tries to throw a dagger or flee a little elsewhere if the halfling's getting up.

I would cheer the monk and two times instead of one if he is an ascetic

Okay, I'm taking the liberty of making these durned characters by myself, because I got nothing else to do during Summer Break down south.
I'm assuming Elite Array, completely average hp (after the first HD) and the rogue has enough sense to actually have armor.

Now, the epic battle. I'm assuming this takes place in a 65x45 ft. square open arena, so that each character is 60 feet away from each other. It's how my group usually plays out 1v1 matches (Yes, I've done this sort of thing many times before)

Tom is 60 ft. east of Tasha, and in the middle of a 45 ft. wide arena.
Roll init. Tasha 11, Tom 15.

Round 1:
-Tom is happy he isn't flat-footed. Tom draws spiked chain as he moves 20 ft. NW and falls prone by himself.
-Tasha hustles 20 ft. NE and draws a dagger as she moves. She throws the dagger at Tom, taking a -6 range penalty while Tom gains a +4 AC bonus for being prone. *23* The dagger hits, dealing *3* damage. Tom is on 39.

Round 2:
-Tom stands up, realizing his proneness isn't helping, and moves 30 ft. south.
-Tasha moves 30 ft. SE, drawing her other dagger and her short sword as she moves. Tasha is now 15 ft. NW of Tom.

Round 3:
-Tom 5-ft steps up to Tasha and attempts to trip her. *25* He hits, now he can trip. *9 vs. 3.* Tasha is prone. And now for Tom's complimentary attack, Combat-Expertising this one for 4. *5* He misses.
-Tasha stands up, drawing an AoO from Tom. *21* Tom hits, dealing *5* damage. Tasha is on 25. Tasha then attacks Tom with her Short sword. *17* Tom Combat-Expertised it off.

Round 4:
-Tom 5-ft steps NE so that he is 10 ft. away from Tasha, and uses his reach to trip Tasha again. *10* he misses.
-Tasha 5-ft steps up to Tom and full-attacks him. *19, 14, 16 w/ Short sword, 19 w/ Dagger.* 3 attacks hit, dealing a total of *5+3+5=13* damage. Tom is on 26 hp.

Round 5:
-Tom 5-ft steps east, then attempts to relieve Tasha of her short sword. *37 vs 28* Tom disarms Tasha. The short sword is now on the ground.
-Tasha 5-ft steps east, then using Combat Expertise for 5, she attacks with her dagger in her off-hand. *9* a clear miss.

Round 6:
-Tom 5-ft steps east, then attempts to trip Tasha. *14* but she dodges the chain.
-Tasha 5-ft steps west, so she's out of Tom's reach, then picks up her short sword.

Round 7:
-Tom 5-ft steps west, and attempts to trip Tasha again. *23* a hit, but can he make her fall? *14 vs. 13* close it is, but Tasha falls. Now the complimentary attack. *9* A shameful miss.
-Tasha stands up, drawing an AoO from Tom. *14* Too bad. She then 5-ft steps east and attacks with her short sword. *Crit-31, Nat-20 confirm* It's a critical hit, scoring *5* whole points of damage! Tom is now on 21 hp.

Round 8:
-Tom 5-ft steps east, then uses his Wholeness of Body ability to restore 14 hp. He is now on 35 hp.
-Tasha 5-ft steps east, and full-attacks Tom. *19, 13, 9 w/ short sword, 17 w/ dagger) two of her stabbings hit, dealing *4+4=8* damage. Tom is now on 28 hp.

Round 9:
-Tom 5-ft steps east, backing himself into the arena wall, and disarms Tasha's short-sword. *34 vs. 10* Tasha's weapon lies on the ground.
-Tasha picks up her short sword, seeing that she cannot use the same tactic as she did last time, drawing an AoO from Tom. *15* Through thin air the spiked chain flies. She then 5-ft steps east, having Tom nearly cornered.

Round 10:
-Tom has just hatched a plan... he drops his spiked chain, then Disarms Tasha's short sword. *17 vs. 15* and Tasha's short sword falls on the ground.
-Tasha once again picks it up, confident she can avoid any attack Tom throws at her... Until he Grapples her! *8* Unfortunately, Tom's grab went right over her little head. Tasha then stabs Tom for the insult. *25* A solid hit! *2* damage dealt! Tom is now on 26 hp.

Round 11:
-Tom tumbles 10 ft. NNW *15* and Tasha could only just comprehend that he had broken her cornering. Tom then hustles 50 ft. west to the other side of the arena.
-Tasha moves to the place where her first dagger hit its mark.

Round 12:
-Tom charges Tasha recklessly, aiming his flying roundhouse kick at Tasha's face! *Nat. 20, 10 confirm* He could feel the air obeying his very command as the attack is about to strike home, but Tasha managed to dodge the most severe impact of the blow. *2* damage dealt to Tasha. Tasha is now on 23 hp.
-Tasha Full-attacks Tom, the fool that he is. *24, 14, 15 w/ short sword, 17 w/ dagger* and all of her mad stabbings are hitting! *4+2+5+3=14* damage dealt to poor Tommy. Tom is now on 12 hp.

Round 13:
-Tom attempts to disarm Tasha's short sword, now that he has some space free in his hands. *11 vs. 7* and the short-sword now belongs to Tom.
-Tasha is very mad that Tom stole her favorite weapon. She picks up her other dagger that is lying on the floor, drawing an AoO from Tom's new short sword, small enough to provide a penalty though it is. *21* It hits her anyway, dealing 4 points of damage. Tasha is now on 19 hp. Tasha then attempts to stab Tom with her off-hand dagger, *26* and hits soundly, dealing *4* damage. Tom is now on 8 hp, and getting desperate.

Round 14:
-Tom ducks low and sticks his foot out to trip Tasha. *15* Tasha manages to dodge the trip. Tom then somersaults 10 ft. west, trying to get out of reach of Tasha's deadly attack. *12*, but Tasha stabs him anyway *18* dealing *5* damage. Tom is on 3 hp.
-Tasha moves 10 ft. up to Tom, then attacks with her dagger *24* and hits, dealing 5 damage. Tom is on -2. Tom drops. Tasha dances on Tom's unconscious body. "HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, FOO!" she yells out in victory.

Round 15:
-Tom bleeds 1 hp. Tom is on -3 hp.
-Tasha takes her sword back, then coup-de-graces Tom's body with her deadly full-sneak attack, dealing *20+23+21+25=89* damage. Tom is on -92 hp. Tom dies.
I'm goddarnit sure that I might have left out a few crucial rules (it took me all of the match to figure out that Tasha didn't have Improved TWF) and I know my tactics are not all that sound. If you're sure that you can do a better job than me at this, then go ahead and be my guest.

This is thechilisgod second go at the battle fully equipped with all the information and weapons that the monk had and as followsand now i give you: THECHILIGOD:
Lets get ready ta rumble!!!
Init Rolling - Tom: *7*, Tasha: *7* Tasha has higher mod, so goes first.

Round 1:
-Tasha is happy she gets to catch Tom flat-footed. She moves 20 ft. east, drawing a dagger and her short sword as she goes, and then throws the dagger at her flat-footed opponent, taking a -6 on the roll due to distance. *20* She hits, dealing *23* damage to Tom. Tom is on 19 hp, and very, very not happy.
-Tom uses his Wholeness of Body ability to heal himself 14 hp. Tom is on 33 hp. He then moves 5 ft. north, drawing his sling as he goes.

Round 2:
-Tasha is happy. She moves 35 ft. north, so she is now 5 ft. W of Tom and has already backed him into a corner.
-Tom tumbles 20 ft. south *21* and loads his sling with a special Alchemists Fire Bullet.

Round 3:
-Tasha moves 20 ft. south and has this time REALLY backed Tom into a corner—the SE corner. She then makes a stab at Tom. *23* She hits, dealing *5* damage. Tom is on 28 hp.
-Tom tumbles 25 ft. north *23* and slings a bullet of Alchemist Fire at her. *18* Assuming a touch attack is required to pass, (Since I really don't know where you got the idea of Alchemist-fire-loaded bullets from) he hits, dealing *6* damage. Tasha is on 24, and on fire.

Round 4:
-Tasha spends a full-round action putting out that fire, *23* then makes a 5-ft. step north.
-Tom 5-ft steps north as well, drops his sling, takes his quarterstaff out of his inventory, and turns it on. The quarterstaff begins to dance around Tom.

Round 5:
-Tasha charges at Tom with her short sword pointing at his heart. *30* she misses the heart, but gets close enough to hit, dealing *3* points of damage. Tom is on 25 hp.
-Tom uses his Flurry of Blows to lay the beat down on Tasha with punches and stuff. *Nat. 1, 11 for unarmed attacks, 13 for quarterstaff* Tasha manages to avoid every single attack.

Round 6:
-Tasha 5-ft steps NW, backing Tom against another wall, and she lets loose her full attack of DOOM! *16, 13, 9 for short-sword, 24 for dagger* two of her attacks hit, dealing *3+3=6* damage. Tom is on 19 hp, and feeling nervous.
-Tom decides to steal Tasha's precious Short-sword. *16 vs. 24* Tasha resists, but she cannot relieve Tom of his hands, so the quarterstaff then whacks her. *19* but only hits her armor. Tom then 5-ft steps to the SW, putting him 5 ft. south of Tasha, and no longer against the wall.

Round 7:
-Tasha unleashes another Full Attack of DOOM! *15, 17, 25 w/ short-sword, 20 w/ dagger* and makes three hits, dealing *2+3+4=9* damage. Tom is on 10 hp, and getting desperate once again.
-Tom's quarterstaff makes a ferocious attack *nat. 20, 20 confirm* and whacks into Tasha's windpipe, dealing her *18* damage. Tasha is on 6 hp, and just about as desperate as Tom, who then makes a flurry of blows, punching her left and right. *7, 18* Both attacks Tasha avoids.

Round 8:
-Tasha unleashes yet another Full Attack of DOOM, making sure to Combat Expertise herself for 3, so she doesn't, like, die. *12, 21, 9 w/ short-sword, 12 w/ dagger* Only one of her attacks gets through, dealing Tom *2* damage. Tom is on 8 hp. Tasha then 5-ft. steps SW, to attempt to back Tom against the wall again.
-Tom's quarterstaff gives Tasha another beating *23* and only just gets through Tasha's enhanced defenses, dealing her *5* damage. Tasha is on 1 hp. Tom then moves 5 ft. east, backing himself into the wall, then draws and tosses a shuriken, hoping to take her out with this last toss. *24* It also gets past her Combat-Expertised defenses, dealing her *3* damage. Tasha is on -2 hp. Tasha drops. Tom's quarterstaff stops dancing and falls on the ground.

Round 9:
-Tom dances on Tasha's unconscious body, yelling out loud, "HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT, HUH? DO YA LIKE IT?" before coup-de-gracing, flurry-of-blowing Tasha for all he's worth, dealing her *10+14=24* damage. Tasha is on -26 hp. Tasha dies.
I hope I didn't miss anything out that time.[/QUOTE]

To elaborate: Jon PM'ed me and told me he left some stuff out of his monk's arsenal (namely a +3 dancing quarterstaff, a sling with alchemist's fire bullets, and a load of shuriken) and asked me to do a rematch, which I did because the word 'bored' doesn't get used enough nowadays.

Apparently, there was a bet going on with Jon and his friend about who would win. Jon bet on the monk.
