| Black Knight Geno03-03-05, 01:36 PM | A lvl 20 Rogue, lvl 20 Assassin, lvl 20 Shadowdancer, lvl 10 Plainswalker, and lvl 8 Perfect Witre(or whatever), CG Red dragon shapechanged into a half-red dragon body. Was geased into his current alignment by very powerful female wizard when he was at the ripe young age of 62. Is currently 257 years old. Is occasionally seen wandering around the dungeon the PCs are in (not fighting, just wandering), or relaxing in an inn, or passing them on the road. Has a long but interesting backstory. |
| Jayr03-03-05, 02:30 PM | So, are there a lot of ECL 80+ NPCs in your campaign, or is this guy special? And wouldn't a geas just make him act Chaotic Good for 1 day per caster level, than leave him really p'oed? And if geas actually worked that way and he's got Asassin levels, doesn't that mean that he gained those 40 Rogue and Asassin levels while he was still an ungeased young adult dragon, and that he's now an ex-Assassin? And how the heck do you "shapechange" into a half-dragon? The only permanent spell that can change a creature's shape is polymorph any object, and you can't use it to polymorph into a templated creature. And what does a Huge dancing dragon look like? Doesn't a -8 penalty to Hide checks hamper its Rogue abilities a bit? Why does he "wander around the dungeon" instead of, say, slaying deities or something? He's a CR 85 CHARACTER! Doesn't he have something better to do than buying cheap ale and passively doing nothing in dungeons he could easily obliterate in one fell swoop with a time stop and 1d4+1 caster level 25 wail of the banshees? Or are your PCs level 100+ too? Please tell me your NPC's background so I can at least have some justification about how he ended up so rules-defiant! Your NPC is utterly cool and non-stereotypical, but isn't 78 class levels a bit excessive? Please tell me about your PCs. They sound interesting. |
| ShadowDragon868503-03-05, 02:35 PM | If the DRAGON is that powerful... Man, I wanna be that wizardess' love-slave. :) And Jary - Courrier New? That's not a very special font. Female geeks? That is special. :P |
| Black Knight Geno03-11-05, 03:52 PM | Alright, set the way back machine for yahyahblahblah... This guy is a unique planes wandering NPC, the only being that he has ever met to become so powerful and stay mortal. His personality is kind of understated, with a dry and sarcastic sense of humor, but it tends to show in everything he does in little ways. His possesions include an unique, intelligent, mithrial breastplate AC +12, Bracers of Armor +12, Ring of Protection +8, a ring of epic universal elemental resistance, belt of greater invisiblity (20 rounds/day), gloves of dexterity +12, a cubic gate, and alot of other stuff I will post later. His name is Girtychiremsop'klyt (yes, that is spelt correctly, no, I will NOT pronounce it), but prefers to be called Chire. The reason for the full dragon in half dragon form is due to a necklace he made a few years (read about 45 yrs.) after the assult on the cathedral, that polymorphs him into a half red dragon form for unlimited duration (unique magic necklace). The rogue and assassin lvl were obtained before he was geased into his new alignment by a helm of opposite alignment. He later went wandering and eventually became a Plainswalker of the highest oreder. He prefers the assassins way of removing opponents, but also needed to be able to disappear into shadows, literally. So he went looking for a shadow dancing mentor, found one, and trained up to almost unprecedented heights of shadow dancing. Currently, he is training to become a Perfect Wright(or however it is spelled). Now, how he became CG. He joined up with a group of various chromatic dragons to raid a Cathedral of Mahiel (homebrewed god of valor and healing), specifically, to raid the magic armory for several extremly powerful artifacts, including a pair of dragon orbs, a dozen evil intelligent magic items, and several staffs. Upon arriving at the cathedral, however, they found that the 2 dozen defenders of the cathedral had called for assistence to help repel the 11 chromatic dragons. The reinforcements arrived, turning the 2 dozen defends into approximately 11 dozen defenders. In the resulting battle, 9 of the chromatics were killed, 1 fled, and our friend Chire was badly wounded, after catching 3 lightning bolts to the head and then slamming into the dividing wall, rendering him unconsious. The defenders were reduced from 132 to 16 barely alive followers. They included 3 paladins, 2 fighters, 5 clerics, 2 wizards, 1 sorcereress, 1 arcane archer, 1 hierophant, and a god-touched female gray elf with 31 lvl of Wizard and 5 lvl Archmage named Lun'tia. They cast temporal statis on Chire, and then went about trying to find out why they had been attacked. During divinations, they learned about a forgotten armory directly below the cathedral containing multiple artifacts of immense power. Then, one of the paladins asked the diviner to ask Mahiel for permission to finish Chire. Instead of a simple answer, though, a gate opened, and an avatar stepped through and delivered a message and a prophecy. The message was "Well done my children, you have prevented a unspeakable horror from being commited, but this Chire, child of flame and death, cannot die here. Listen, and listen well..." "Child of flame, child of death, cursed to survive, alone, maimed, and forgotten, when evil calls, he will lead, but will fall upon good's threshold, there, his destiny shall divide into two, should he fail in good's domain, Darkness will rise and cover all, but should he come to repent, the Light will be able to push the dark back for a time, but first he must fall thrice, once in the wilderness, tired and hungry, once in a temple, beaten and bloody, and once on a battlefield, surronded, betrayed, alone, and forgotten, calling for aid that will not come, beaten, but not defeated, dying, but still defient, giving love, but love never returned." And, as the remaining defenders stood in shock, as the avatar returned through the gate after giving Lun'tia a helm of opposite alignment, and the gate closed. They then went out Lun'tai dispelled the temporal statis, put the helm on his head, and healed him. When he awoke, he came very near attacking everyone, but Lun'tia, with the use of a modified hold monster, restrained him. They then removed the helm, then replaced it upon him. Chire's eye suddenly widened, he screamed in anguish and he would have collapsed if not for Lun'tia's spell holding him in place. They then left him there, trying to come to terms with what he had done before. Lun'tai returned the next day, after Chire had stabalized, and told him that he may leave to do as he wished and added that he could keep the helm "as a momento". He left the with the helm, went back to his lair, used it to make adventuring equipment, and started wandering about, killing evil, fighting the good fight, and generally making an a$s of himself, at least to the rest of the chromatic dragons. He has been adventuring ever since, and even occasionally returns to the cathedral to remember what he once was and had become. Chire has recently fallen for a elven adventurer, who is really a gold draogn in disguise, but he doesn't know that (yet!). |
| Jayr03-11-05, 06:12 PM | Slight gripe: a helm of opposite alignment can't turn a CE creature CG. Real question: what level were your players? |
| TMX03-11-05, 06:20 PM | Have to be the drunk from the tavern. I broke into his house, in the belief that was a lycanthrope, and stole 2 bits of meat from his kitchen. I went upstairs, and found him stone drunk, asleep. For some reason that 2 years on escapes me, I placed the meat on his face, and snuck out. The next day, when I bought him a drink and asked if he found anything unusual, he said no, as if sleeping with a joint of ham is normal. I ate the other one...:yuck: |
| Black Knight Geno03-12-05, 01:40 PM | Slight gripe: a helm of opposite alignment can't turn a CE creature CG. Real question: what level were your players? Not quite epic. Used Chire to keep the party alive, the DM was not quite done with toying with us... yet! :evillaugh |
