Rerecros 05-03-07, 12:37 AM	You can't make armor out of wood, Iron wood is for light, heavy and tower shields. If you want better armor your just going to have to use dragon hide.

Rerecros 05-03-07, 12:53 AM	Dragon hide and Iron wood are in the special materials section of the DMG. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialMaterials.htm The Ironwood buckler is a bit of a misnomer, as it is a light wooden shield. Darkwood Buckler: This nonmagical light wooden shield is made out of darkwood. It has no enhancement bonus, but its construction material makes it lighter than a normal wooden shield. It weighs 2-1/2 pounds and has no armor check penalty. No aura (nonmagical); Price 205 gp.

The Druid class description in PHB says a druid can wear wooden armour made with the ironwood spell. It refers to the Ironwood spell description, which says that Ironwood is as hard as steel and does not burn. Neither source says how much I have to pay to get a suit of, say, ironwood half-plate for my druid (presumably, such armour would have all the stats of metal half-plate). The DMG doesn't seem to have it either. So other than having all the craft skills necessary to make it myself, how do I go about getting it? Anyone know? ap

Edana 05-03-07, 04:05 PM	The reason there are no prices listed for ironwood armor is because the Ironwood (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/ironwood.htm) spell only lasts 1 day per caster level. Per the SRD description of the spell: Using this spell with wood shape or a wood-related Craft check, you can fashion wooden items that function as steel items. Thus, wooden plate armor and wooden swords can be created that are as durable as their normal steel counterparts. These items are freely usable by druids. So, basically anything metal can be duplicated using the ironwood spell and an appopriate craft check or seperate casting of Wood Shape. Ironwood is not on the list of spells that can be made permanent with the permanency spell, so getting a permanent version is a pure DM's call. If you're willing to pay NPC's to cast the appropriate spells for you, you could theoretically pay 880gp (a 6th level spell and a 2nd level spell cast by an 11th level caster) for any single ironwood item, which would last 11 days. After that you'd have to pay 660gp (another casting of Ironwood) for another 11 days of the item being treated as metal. Presumably the cost of the actual wood to be shaped in this process is negligible to the cost of the spellcasting. If you're a druid, then once you get to 11th level and have 6th level spells, you can essentially have free ironwood armor for the cost of a 6th level spell slot every 11 days. (It would be subject to dispels and such though.)
