Is there a Prestige class for this kinda thing? [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-16-07, 10:21 AM i'm wondering, is there a prestige class that has alot to do with updating your familiar?

I heard somewhere on here that there's feats to improve a Homunoculus, but are there any for regular animal companion/familiar?
if so where are they?

I wanted to make a PC who's baised on his Beguiler familiar, and i wanted to waste all my feats on upgrading & optimizing him, lol

I realize my character may suck, but my familiar will be all powerful, well...at least compared to my PC....

02-16-07, 10:32 AM Hmm.... not that I am aware of. Improved familiar gets you a good one, as is the case for guardian familiars(complete warrior). Another thing you can do is A: get your resident buffer to crank the familiar's stats up or B: you're a beguiler, act like one. Smother the thing in illusions until you get something approximating a phantasmal killer:P.

i think you've mistaken something, my familiar is a Beguiler

02-16-07, 10:50 AM ah,right,sorry. Anyvay, try buffing it up with various spells, including fortify familiar and something or the other from C. warrior (a spell). Also, cast enlarge and awaken on it to allow character classes, mebbe tenser's transformation, polymorph, and the like. ("My pet is a beefed up, giant, flaming tarrasque of doom!" Okay, I messed around with the tarrasque bit, but an uber hydra or some such is quite definitely a possibility). What's your class, anyway? I get the feeling you won't even need PrCs/feats.

02-16-07, 10:53 AM The alienist prestige class (Complete Arcane) will progress your familiar. It'll also, um... change your familiar.

02-16-07, 10:55 AM I'm still in the process of making him, trying to decide on everything including class...

i'm 8th lvl though, i know that.

obviously i'm going to be casting spells....ideas?

02-16-07, 11:45 AM Fleshgrafter from Lords of madness lets you augment your familiar pretty extensively, I think you wind up losing 1 or 2 CL and get a lot of abilities. Of course, it might be hard to explain if you're not at least slightly evil.

02-16-07, 06:13 PM Arcane Hierophant (essentially an Arcane Caster/Druid Mystic Theurge) would allow you to confer some of the bonuses of your familiar onto a new Animal Companion, like a Bear with 9 INT :plotting:

Other than that rout, some of the feats in the Complete Warrior might help.

02-16-07, 06:39 PM There's also Fiend-Blooded from Heroes of Horror, which not only progresses the familiar, but also gives it the Fiendish template.

...Though I have to ask: Why did your DM allow your familiar to gain class level? Doesn't seem like it needs any more beefing up at all.
